Kevin Smith to Direct Cop Out

Looks like a poor man's American version of Hot Fuzz.

Even the red band trailer was weak. All these years and I dunno, I still don't find Tracy Morgan funny. His schtick is just so one-note. It's like people should think he's funny because he's black. This movie honestly looks like those movies or TV shows within movies that get made fun of.

Kevin smith was kicked off a plane for being too fat. thats just bad

They said he usually buys two seats but ended up on standby for some reason, so they only had one seat available for him. Apparently he was too large for it, so they booked him on a later flight with two seats. :hehe:

Kevin Smith should be pointing the finger at himself, not Southwest.

Yep. A couple of things come to mind:

1. He's rich. He can afford a first class ticket on another airline (I don't think Southwest has first class seating?).

2. He's rich. He can afford to pay a bit more for healthier food and a personal trainer to get in shape.

He has chosen to do neither of these things, despite having enough wealth to do so.

Fat guys in the industry lose their humor when they get skinny. Everyone knows that.

Just cause your in the business and make movies doesn't mean he's as Rich as you prolly think he is. I mean I'm sure he has money, but i'm sure he doesn't have 50 million dollars or something.

You don't need $50 million to afford what I mentioned in my other post. I said he's rich. Unless he has been foolish with his money (doubtful because he is a smart guy), then he should have plenty of cash stockpiled for the options I mentioned.

I don't know I just said the first thing that popped into my head. You could say he's more a less a indie director and has never really had that big hit movie yet. I mean his biggest movie so far as been Zach and Miri and that only made 24 million worldwide on a budget of 24 million. So like I said he's not exactly rolling in the dough.

And I'm sure if he does have the money, he needs to use it for more useful stuff besides a plane ticket. People are just making something big out of nothing.

I like Smiths movies. Haven't see Zach & Miri. But this movie looks terrible. Nothing from the trailers or TV spots have even made me crack a smile.

God, isn't it such a weird coincidence that this happened right before Cop Out opened?!?! Not to mention, he won't just shut up about it and let it go. Instead he's dragging it out on Twitter and admittedly very funny Smodcast.

1. Of course he has money, but if you listen to SMODcast you'll know why he booked with Southwest. Just because you have money, doesn't mean you have to get the best of the best. If you can save your money, then hell, why not?

2. EVERYBODY can afford to loose weight. Get your ass outside and jog. it's free. Again, just because someone has money, doesn't mean they should do what you think they should do with it. The guy knows his fat, obviously and he has come to terms with it. He wasn't too fat to seat in the flight seat. He said when he get to that level, he will be the first to talk about it.

Yes. It's unfortunate that flapping your lips doesn't make you loose weight. :)

I'll probably rent this and mainly because Willis is in it. I also want to see all of the movies Morgan parodies in that interrogation scene.

Have to agree that Kevin Smith's fat ass needs to lost wait and stop *****ing about what was rightfully done. I don't know about anyone else but I sure as hell would not want to be sandwiched in between two extremely fat people. Tired of how many people in America are becoming super sensitive and trying to cater to people or types that shouldn't be catered to. I don't like negative enablers, especially fat enablers that say it's perfectly ok to be disgustingly obese and that there is nothing wrong with that. Either lose the weight or be forced to pay for two seats and I did read from another post that usually that's what Smith does.

Saw the movie tonight. Here's my review:

http://www.nowpublic.com/culture/review-cop-out

Kevin Smith is a talented writer, but a less than stellar director. He's the first to admit it. So, it was a surprise when he signed on to helm an action-comedy starring Bruce Willis. What isn't a surprise is that he copped out. There's only three action scenes. One in the beginning with Willis and Tracy Morgan chasing a drug dealer. Another in the middle with the drug dealer chasing them. And a big shootout at the end. Smith needs to man up. First he turns down the Green Hornet, then he chickened out on a horror film titled Red State, and now this. Smith said that Cop Out was a tribute to `80s buddy cop movies. He even hired Harold Faltermeyer (Beverly Hills Cop, Top Gun, Fletch, Tango & Cash) to do the score. Instead he delivered something in the same category as Police Academy.

Willis stars as Jimmy and Morgan as Paul. They are cops in the narcotics unit who get suspended with no pay for 30 days as a result of a major screw-up. Jimmy doesn't mind the suspension, but hates not getting a paycheck since he needs the money to pay for his daughter's wedding. Out of desperation he decides to sell a baseball card that's worth $80,000. His daughter's wedding costs $48,000. Did she really expect him to pay that bill on a cop's salary? No. She's counting on her rich step-father, played by 39-year-old actor Jason Lee, but Jimmy has too much pride. While in the process of selling his card he is robbed by Seann William Scott. You're still with me? Okay. So, afterwards, Jimmy goes looking for Scott's character and when he finds him he demands to know what happened to his baseball card. He is informed that it was sold to a drug dealer. The same drug dealer who got him suspended. What a coincidence.

Dumb plot and lack of action aside, it is a funny flick. It's not hilarious, but it is funny. Morgan has his moments, but the real highlight is Scott. Then again, Scott has been a scene stealer since American Pie. You can never go wrong with Stifler. So, is it worth the price of admission? Nope. Not at all. It's not even worth a matinee price. But it is a rental or waiting till HBO premieres it a year from now.

omg 14% on rottentomatoes???... thats is disgusting.. i was expecting at minimum a 30%

I saw this movie at an advanced screening...Im not going to write a review because Im lazy but let me just say this...this movie sucks!! Its really bad.

If you like films like Norbit, Big mommas house, etc...you'll probably find the humor in this funny. I didn't. People all around me were cracking up though, I wonder what the hell they were smoking

The movie is basically a poor man's American Hot Fuzz.

Some of the same type of riffed shots and everything. Except Morgan's "movie/tv" quotes are ******ed and not funny.
