Ms Knightley, currently featuring in the film The Duchess and star of the Hollywood hit Atonement, is said to be in negotiations to play the role of Zelda Sayre, one of the most controversial literary figures of her time.

Some claim that Ms Sayre's marriage to Scott Fitzgerald, the author of The Great Gatsby and Tender is the Night, inspired him to produce the Jazz Age's best novels, while other say she stifled his creativity.

Their troubled relationship is set to be examined in a new biopic called The Beautiful and the Damned.

The couple were married in 1920 and were seen as the perfect society couple.

But some experts suggest that Ms Sayre's behaviour and schizophrenia led Scott Fitzgerald into fits of jealousy and alcoholism.

The film is written by Hanna Weg, who also wrote Enigma, and directed by Nick Cassavetes.

It is to begin shooting in April, although the role of Scott Fitzgerald has not yet been cast.

get you hopes up as well :(

I thought this was about a live-action Legend Of Zelda movie.:o

yeah what a gip! First I was gonna ***** about Knightley being Zelda but now I'm gonna ***** about this not being a Zelda movie. Boo hiss!

you'd be surprised at how many other sites are also making the same mistake

Me too. :(

Oddly enough, Knightly was a popular choice to play Zelda in some circles of LoZ fandom. She was hardly my first choice on account that she's not a very good actress, but still, odd nonetheless.

I was so stoked when I saw the title...I thought it was for a Zelda movie like many thought....booo!!!

If I'm not mistaken, the name of Zelda from the games actually was inspired by the Zelda from the Great Gatsby.

At first I thought this was a Zelda movie...and in all honesty she'd be perfectly fine and capable as Zelda. But after three POTC movies (two of which sucked) there is no reason she should want to return to fantasy blockbusters anytime soon.

I digress. Such a disappointing realization. Oh well, this movie still sounds interesting, albeit Knightley needs to start making movies set in contemporary times.

P.S. She can be good in certain roles with the right direction. I thought she was quite good as Lizzy in Pride & Prejudice and gave a very restrained (this for her) and mature performance in the underrated Atonement. That said, I hear she is as awful in The Duchess as that movie looked.

ughhh.,, thought this was legend of zelda.

im both happy and sad that its not
