I don't get that insult...."cracker" like "spic"....weird.

Doesn't really have any bite to it.

I think saying something about his momma would have carried more weight.

"cracker" as in white cracker... you know, the kind you eat.

"spic" as in short for hispanic

what about wheat crackers? those are brownish.....
I know where spic comes from, I just don't know how they turned it into an insult, like "gringo" it's not an insult and some people use it like it was.

Jesse Jackson is a racist regardless of whether Kramer is.
Yeah, I'm just reminding some posters here, that if your criteria for "racism" is: "Using racial slurs out of anger.", then Jesse Jackson has done that and therefore is a "racist", by their criteria.

I don't know if Richards is racist or not. I think that, for whatever reason, the hecklers got the best of him and he just wanted to say the one thing that would hurt them the most. And then I think he realized his mistake and had to exaggerate and go kinda ballistic with it to tone it down. Still not right, but I think thats how it happened.

Well, Sharpton and Gloria Aldrich (sp) are involved, so that means someone wants to sue.

hmmmm...I see that the issue needs to be addressed. The jews got on Mel, so this is a similar response from the black communit. And of course, in america today you hit them in the pocketbook to really make it hurt.

I just don't get people blaming this on the hecklers. That's so asinine. They are not responsible for his actions, and what you are essentially saying is that one wrong makes another wrong...right. That's total crap!

Personally, I think those of you who are defending Richards and blaming the hecklers are people insecure with the current state of the world, and the current state of the white man in the world. Or maybe it's fear of the black man/minority, and the fear that you can't do what Richards did without risking a serious ass whooping. Though, deep in your heart you'd probably like to do what he did to some minority who insulted you.

I don't know...but I find it strange people can stoop so low to defend someone using a racial slur as an insult, which is what Richards did, as justified.

^People have gotten this mentality that being politically correct is wrong, and they try their best to get away from it. Politically correct is calling someone an african-american, not NOT calling them a ******. It has nothing to do with the price of tea in China.

Obviously, some folks don't want things politically correct.

That's not surprising considering who is in the white house.

edit:

LOL...compound some of the responses coming from white middle america and the white's only scholariship at Boston U...

Hmmm...we keep talking about the neo-cons and perhaps we should be talking about the neo-racists.

I wouldn't call Jesse a racist but he has some tendencies to throw out some racial comments about the white man....he doesn't have as much rage as Richards did...but Jesse is still wrong for doing it none the less. I think double standards are hugely at work here and this is incident is going to spark it.

I'm not defending Cosmo's actions but imagine you're a performer and somebody is yelling that you aren't funny and you're washed up.
Now keep, in mind that to a comedian that's a very hurtful thing to say, "you aren't funny."

Also keep in mind, that the heckler is an anonymous individual.
Cosmo didn't have any dirt on the guy.
So what's the most hurtful thing he could say?
Is the heckler fat, ugly, a woman, or a minority?

You work with what you have.
The guy was black. Cosmo wen't with it (too far)

In the beginning you can hear the crowd laughing at his first joke.
"50 years ago you'd be hanging with a fork up your ass". At this point the crowd was still with him. Even though it was a racist joke.
It wasn't until he kept saying ****** that it became offensive.

The man went too far
He should apologize.
But, being heckled can't be nice

I feel that he makes too many issues that aren't racial based about race. Didn't he have a beef with Toyota a bit back

I have stated that I don't think the dude is racist, and that I do think he spoke out in anger. He said the most foul thing is his mind about black people, and he said it publicly.

My issue is that it was the first thing in his mind. He went too far right from the jump because he hurled that word and his other comments as an insult.

I understand being heckled isn't fun. No one likes to be made fun of so I understand his initial anger. But, to joke that "fifty years ago you would have been upside down with a fork in your ass"....UH...no. That's an inappropriate response...even if you are angry. That was the first thing out of his mouth in response to a heckler right from the jump, and that is wrong no matter how you look at it.

Had he said this to a jew and maybe said "fifty years ago I would have had a bonfire over your families ashes with you there too". We would probably call him a monster and closet self hating racist.

So, I really can't understand anyone trying to justify that. Regardless of rather he was mad or not, that was wrong.

Anger is not an excuse to insult someone with a racial slur, a derogatory remark against their culture/race, or by using anything specific to their race. He could have called them an ******* a moo-foo or any number of insults that didn't even go in that territory.

"WAAAAHHH!! People are telling me I'm not funny! Those damn ******s!!"

If he's not prepared for stand-up, he needs to get off the ****ing stage.

^People are basically giving it a pass because they feel that "we" have complained about racism way too much over the years, and that someone has finally done something about it, to an extent.

I'm sorta over the bit of racism he started with. He wants to throw in a little hate into his routine, then thats his perogative. The fact that he started dropping the N bomb repeatedly after is just inexcusable.
