Kramer's A Racist!!!

^People are basically giving it a pass because they feel that "we" have complained about racism way too much over the years, and that someone has finally done something about it, to an extent.

My friend says it's white middle american rage. She's white by the way.

She said and I quote, "It's just as hard to be a white today as it is black." I tell her she is a little delusional because she nor her family have been victims of discrimination or institutional racism.

Her response..."Yes I have because I have to hear about the **** all the time."

^Because hearing about it is just as bad as living it as we all know.

lol...obviously.

The fact a lot of people think he is justified. I read an editorial about this morning, and the general response from whites is the hecklers were wrong and the fact other black comedians use the word makes it okay for a white comedian to use it.

I agree with part of this because if a white dude can toss that in and make it part of routine than go for it. I'm an advocate of free-speech even if I don't want to hear it. But, he used that word as an insult. He insulted him. He didn't even mean it as a joke. It was just a straight up insult.

Eminem is going to un-retire and come back and speak on the wma rage.

I could understand to some extent how some white americans are tired of blacks, or really any other minority(ultimately in America race issues are seen as exclusively black and white), trying to guilt them for things that happened hundred of years ago.

^^Yes, that is what she indicated.

She said she feels victimized by something she's never done, never endorsed, and never was a part of.

I understand this, but what confuses me is the response. Is it now okay to be racist because most whites think most minorities think they are anyway? That is what I am seeing. So, is the reality that the pc society we live in now is keeping them in the closet and Richards has become their unsung hero?

lol...hope they send his ass some money then because I have a feeling he will need it.

Just today I read an editorial in the Daily News, where the author was comparing the incident to Mel Gibsons. She felt more sympathy for Richards even though they're both guilty of the same act. WTF?

Lenore Skenazy said:
But while Mel's explosion came as a comeuppance, Richards' felt a lot more like a come-downance, a crumbling of something inside. I hope he gets to fix it.

I think she's Jewish.:whatever:

^^sad state of affairs...

At this point I'm looking forward to my deep fried Turkey...

peace out :)

I have stated that I don't think the dude is racist, and that I do think he spoke out in anger. He said the most foul thing is his mind about black people, and he said it publicly.

My issue is that it was the first thing in his mind. He went too far right from the jump because he hurled that word and his other comments as an insult.

I understand being heckled isn't fun. No one likes to be made fun of so I understand his initial anger. But, to joke that "fifty years ago you would have been upside down with a fork in your ass"....UH...no. That's an inappropriate response...even if you are angry. That was the first thing out of his mouth in response to a heckler right from the jump, and that is wrong no matter how you look at it.

Had he said this to a jew and maybe said "fifty years ago I would have had a bonfire over your families ashes with you there too". We would probably call him a monster and closet self hating racist.

So, I really can't understand anyone trying to justify that. Regardless of rather he was mad or not, that was wrong.

Anger is not an excuse to insult someone with a racial slur, a derogatory remark against their culture/race, or by using anything specific to their race. He could have called them an ******* a moo-foo or any number of insults that didn't even go in that territory.

I'm just saying you work with what you have
He picked the most hurftul thing that came to mind because they obviously wounded him with their "has been" comments.

So really, the hecklers should be facing an equal amount of ridicule

Key word, "equal".
They weren't being racist. Just obnoxious. Michael was in the wrong when he took it that far.

An equal amount of ridicule would have been calling them an ******* or insulting their mother by calling her a prostitute.

A racial slur is not an equal amount of ridicule in any circumstance unless you are a racist and that's how you roll!

Y'know for a couple of pages we all got into a sensitive debate about double standards and the n word. And that to Kramers defense the word is a double standard. But did people forget the part about a fork being stuck up a black persons anus? Or you can't interrupt a white man? Or the throw them out because of their skin color comment?

True! And that was the first thing out of his mouth!

According to all the news spots, the hecklers said he wasn't funny and he said what he said.

That's how I don't see anyone excusing that. But, I had totally forgot about interuppting a white man part. Though it did seem that by that point he was trying to cover his ass by making it seem like he was making some sort of social commentary.

I think that discussion was less about defending Kramer, and more about the prescence of the word itself in everyday life.

I saw some people were actually using it as a defense for Kramer in that disscusion.

This is why I support Affirmative Action, but that's completely different from reprimands that people here are talking about. People don't normally choose not to hire somebody because they are black. In fact they normally jump at the chance because of the AA tax breaks they get.

If you apply for a student loan, the form knows no color.

Listen, Micheal Richards' is not racist. As an actor myself, I can understand Richards state of mind during that rage on stage. Just put yourself in his shoes. Here's a man who's biggest break was "Seinfield" and was adored and admired by millions of fans. The show ends and he hasn't had a decent role in a tv show or movie for about 7 years now. And what is to blame? Michael Richards typecasted as only being the character known as "Kramer". Forever, studios can only think of him as Kramer from Seinfield. Do you know what that's like? Your walking down the street and someone says, "Hey Kramer! How's George and Jerry?" every single day. You don't think that this could effect a struggling actor/comedian trying to make a comeback and prove that he is more than just some tv character he played years ago?
In other words, Michael Richards for these past 7 years has been tumbling down the ugly slope of actor typecasting. He's had a serious breakdown and his mind is not stable. So now he performs stand-up in one of the fewest gigs he can get and he's blowing it. He's not funny and he knows it, the audience knows it and they don't help by heckling Michael. So at this point, wouldn't someone like Michael snap? But he's unstable and desperate. The only thing that can come to mind is pathetically making racial slurs to cover up his insecurities. This man is not a racist. He's crying out for help!

Believe me, his state of mind shouldn't compensate for his rage, but it shows that he's not racist. He was desperate under the lights and snapped at the easiest target.

Yes, but every other loan officer and form does. You can have decent credit, same as a white person, and get denied for a home loan. They may not say it's because you are black, but...

I'd like to affirmative action where it counts. These are the areas that need more attention.

Then this should be good therapy for him...

Spare the rod and all that.

"cracker" as in white cracker... you know, the kind you eat.

"spic" as in short for hispanic
It isn't short for Hispanic, it's a racial slur against Hispanics.
