I have both. I have a 42" LCD, a 32" LCD and a 1080p Optoma projector. I love my projector for movies and special event watchings like the Superbowl.

The down part of having a projector is the lighting conditions you have to set... a near completely dark room. Basements are perfect, or any room set aside primarily as a movie room that can be blocked off from light.

I love the experience though and to tell you the truth... it has kind of spoiled my movie going experience. I have to sit pretty close the the movie screen to get the wow factor in at the movies now. ;)

This is a tough one. We have a 32 inch LCD and the picture quality is ok. But I haven't hooked up a dvd player or anything HD yet to it. Just standard cable. I have a 55 inch rear projection and everything looks great on that. The tv is about 6 years old before HDMI hit it big, so everything is through component cables. But I love watching Blu-Ray and football in HD through it. It's only 1080i though. I have seen a few projectors and have been really impressed with them. If I had the room I would love to go for a 1080p DLP projector with a huge screen.
I'm mixed on Plasma. I've seen some good ones and some really bad ones. My dad's doesn't look to bad. I got him a 50 inch last Christmas. Of course nothing in HD for him. But picture quality in standard definiteion is pretty decent.

Each have their advantages and disadvantages.

I keep looking at a 60" Mitsubishi DLP. I just can't decide whether to pull the trigger or not. It's about 15 more inches of TV than most LCD/Plasmas and yet it is also up to $2000 cheaper.

I got a 26 LCD and 32 Plasma...the Plasma is better....and they are the same brand

I have a 32 LCD. I would love to get a projector but like Knowsbleed says, you gotta have the perfect conditions for it and right now, I don't.

I've been wanting the Mitsubishi 73" DLP, but I don't think it would fit through the door. Plus the wife says my rear projection tv has to die first. Those things last forever!!!

That is crazy. I can't realistically ever see myself buying a TV over 52 inches. But everytime I see that beast at Best Buy, I die a little inside.

You definitely have to have the room for it. I have a finished basement and that's where my current setup is. When it comes to watching movies, I get into it with my tv and especially the sound. I get a lot of compliments on my sound system.

Unfortunately, Miami doesn't have basements, we have Florida rooms.

Sorry to hear that. I forget that some places can't have basements. I'd go nuts without my man cave.

I love how Best Buy intentionally pushes the LCD/Plasmas at the local store. The big DLPs are not hooked to the Hi Def feed like the LCD/PLasmas are and they are not set to the vivid color settings. So you have multitudes of the much more expensive and yet smaller LCD/Plasmas hooked up to the better feeds and set for optimal performance, and the cheaper, larger DLPs hooked up to regular lines and on the energy saving setting so the colors aren't as vibrant. Especially on the Mitsu's that have 3 or 4 different modes to run in and each mode makes the picture appear quite different.

DLP's have disadvantages for sure, but if they are running HIDef and on the right setting, picture quality is as good or better than the others and the refresh rate is much better. No "blur" on DLP.

For my Bedroom? LCD is perfect. Plasma burns out quick and DLP requires a dark room.

I got a 32" Samsung LCD HD TV yesterday, but I'm (quietly) very disappointed. The picture quality is awful, is it meant to look blocky? Even my PS3 looks worse on it, than on my standard television :(

I chose LCD because I heard Plasma has a limited life, but now I kinda want my old TV back :ninja:

I haven't done yet, but surely that would only benefit my PS3. Having said that, since I wrote my first post, the picture appears to be improving, is that possible?
