post pics, video links from youtoube of them playing basketball, and discuss. Who is your pick, who do you think is better.

Lebron. If only because he's not a complete *****ebag who doesn't need years of getting his arse kicked to show him his teams actually do better when he doesn't act like a complete tool.

Kobe.

I see no ring on LeBron's finger.

Lebron hasn't played alongside of an in-prime Shaq, or simultaneously alongside of guys the calibre of Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom and Andrew Bynum.

He's taken guys like Mo Williams, Zydrunas Ilgauskas and Delonte West to the one seed in the East until they got outgunned by a Magic team sporting the league's best centre and two quality shooters at form...

You trade Kobe for Lebron cold last year and I guarantee you the Lakers still would have won that Championship.

They probably wouldn't have lost a game in the playoffs.

Possibly not, teams like the Rockets and the Blazers (who they of course didn't play since both were first round match-ups for one another) would have had a harder time pegging them down.

Shane Battier does pretty much the best defensive job on Kobe league wide, then if he gets in any foul trouble from the refs who try to carry Kobe they also had Ron Artest there who isn't too shabby a defender himself.

You have the Rockets playing the Lakers with Bron instead, all of a sudden that makes a lot less difference as Bron is more selective and will involve his teammates more regularly, meaning the Rockets 5 have the much harder job of containing the Lakers 5.

Plus with Bron instead of Kobe you'd have seen Phil immediately drag Pau out to the high post (and Yao's D with him) since Lebron's a bigger physical presence.

They make easy work of that series and its a fair bet they'd have won a ring in less games throughout the finals. Say they might drop one or 2... things go pear-shaped... but I figure they'd likely have done better with Bron.

Kobe is, for the time being. A better Basketball player. The poll isn't who is a better athlete or more talented. Lebron easily wins both. But as an actual basketball player, it's Kobe. He has a better all around game, is a cold stone killer. I mean other than MJ and Reggie Miller I don't think I would pick anyone else to take my game winning shot with time running out.

It seems like Lebron will close the gap in time and most likely surpass Kobe but then again maybe not. Kobe is still for the time being, the best Basketball player alive right now.

Kobe is obviously still adding to a legacy that includes championships, scoring titles and league MVPs. He finally won an elusive championship without Shaq. He continues to play on a championship caliber team. There is no doubt based on accomplishments at this time in their careers Kobe has the edge.

Lebron will be equally great or may even surpass him as he has a long career ahead of him but only time will tell.

I think the Championships are a little... easier to come by though. Take a look at when he won his first three and his last. Look at those teams he played on. I mean Gasol, Odom and Derek Fisher? Not that it wasn't hard but the caliber of teams he won them with were all very high cal teams.

I think Iverson's 76ers just making it to the Finals against Shaq's Lakers was a much bigger accomplishment than any of those titles Kobe won. imho

Lebron, long live the king.

King of what? It's like when he came into the league it was a forced take over of a foreign country.

What has he done to become King?.......

Nike and everyone else - except for himself - is trying to promote him as the King of basketball, the savior, the next coming of MJ and so on.

Not knocking him, but he hasn't done anything to be proclaimed king of anything.

I don't knock anything Iverson did that year as it was impressive and he went on to show us one of the most incredible performances in finals history in that game one victory. But Kobe has been very instrumental and one of the biggest components in the success of those Lakers teams.

When you have a superstar caliber player you surround him with quality talent to make them title contenders as in the case of Gasol, Odom and Fisher. Once they did that the championship was delivered. Kobe is clearly the leader and captain of that team. Lebron has shown what he is capable of doing by leading his team to an NBA final as well which shows that Lebron can be equally successful given they surround him with quality talent to make it work. Championships are a major level of success for an individual when they are the leaders or co leaders of a team. It's just unfair to take something away from one because they have a better supporting cast when someone like Kobe contributes so much to it.

As of now Kobe has the distinction of 6 conference championships and 4 nba championships which weighs heavily in favor of Kobe IMHO.

My point was....is, based solely on championships for Kobe. That view is a little skewed. Not taking anything away from him at all, I think he gets the nod as best player in the world right now for many other reasons. Not just the championships.

Ok.....I gotcha. But I wasn't just specifically labeling championships as I consider many other factors. But like I said both are still in the prime of their careers and the book remains unfinished for both. As far as I am concerned Lebron has a lot more to prove.

They practically handed him that crown while he was still in high school.

Yes I know, and still what has he done to actually have earned it?

Exactly! Lebron has not shown he can take over a game like MJ did in Chicago, also he has not hit alot of game winning buzzer beaters except for a few. Finally I see no ring on his finger. He has been in the NBA for 7 seasons now the excuses are out the window now.

I don't think his time in the league has anything to do with it. I mean he was only 18 quickly turned 19 his first year in the league. It did take MJ seven years before he won his first championship. But I don't think the comparison is equally direct because Leborn is still younger than MJ so he could easily win as many titles in as much time.

I don't think he will, the league is so watered down and has so many other issues with the level of competition. But that's another story.

Leborn certainly has the ability to be better than pretty much anyone we have seen. But only time will tell.

Its watered down for a reason. I personally would love for them to go back to the hand check era. But yeah right now LBJ not better then Kobe and thats not an opinion its a fact.

Kobe will try to do to much sometimes if his teammates aren't productive and he doesn't play D as hard as he can.

Lebron for some unknown reason still has no post game, he's a mediocre FT shooter, lacks killer instinct, and really isn't very clutch.

I'd take Kobe over Lebron.

LeBrons been the best on the planet the past 3 years, all yall can gtfo.

Very sound reasoning and good argument.

No wait, sorry I misread that I thought there was something intelligent in there.

It wasn't even until midway last season that Lebron himself stopped staying Kobe was the best player on the planet. :awesome:

People tend to point out all the extra things Lebron does and ignores the things he can't and refuses to do.

I think there are a few reasons why people assume player a, b or c are the best.

1. They don't understand the sport, be it basketball, football, hockey, etc.

2. They get caught up in the hype, flashy, loud and outspoken, highlight reels player aka ESPN top 10 plays player.

3. People don't know the difference between being a great basketball player and a great athlete, Lebron is the most naturally gifted player in the league but that does not make him the best basketball player. There is a big difference between being an athlete with tons of talent and actually putting in work to be the best basketball player, football, etc. player that you can be. Not that Lebron doesn't, he just isn't at Kobe's level of a great basketball player.

4. People want to think the player they like is the best. I am not Kobe fan, but I have no problem admitting he is the best. I personally lik D-Wade and have since he was at Marquette. But I can admit he isn't the best player in the world or the league. People love Lebron and want their favorite player to be the best in the league/world.

5. Achievements are a hard thing to clearly judge a player on. Lebron holds a ton of records for being the youngest player to reach X goal or X record. But he was also 18 turning 19 when he came into the league. Of course he is going to be the youngest player to reach a lot of those goals. Jordan, Magic, Wilt, Kareem and more were older than Lebron in years (2+) by the time they go into the league.

A. Stats only make you so good. Look at Patrick Ewing and Karl Malone no doubt amazing stats and amazing players in their own right. But they probably only get brought up in a greats conversation when talking about their respective positions. Maybe brought up overall but they don't last long in the conversation.

B. Then there are Championships, Horry has five, six? But I doubt anyone would bring him up in a greats convo. But he was part of championship teams for a reason. Most of the non debatable greats have rings. Bird, Magic, Hakeem, Barry, Kareem, Shaq, Jordan, West, Russell, Wilt, Dr. J, Robertson, Thomas, Unseld, Earl The Pearl and so on.

There are some Stockton, Baylor and more than never won a Championship but would still be considered greats. So I am not knocking Leborn for not winning a championship. He has only been there once and still has a long way to go. But if he never does. How can he be better than Kobe? Greats and the greatest find a way to get their teams over that hump and win it all. I am pretty sure Kobe is 4-2* in the Finals, MJ 6-0.

Those are just my opinions.

Even though it pains me to say it Kobe is 4 - 2 in the finals.

Jerry West is hands down considered one of the best players all time (top ten) and his record in the finals is 1-8.
