Horror Leonardo DiCaprio to play "The Devil In The White City"

Whoa. The Discovery Channel series Most Evil profiled this guy and this dude was truly one of the most evil people they ever did a show on. I mean, he basically killed all these people so he could run some kind of scam and take their money. This guy would drug his victims and kill them on his operating table in the basement of his hotel. And then he would take parts of their bones as souvenirs.

could be disturbingly awesome. Quite randomly the first thing I thought of when I saw the time period was how random and awesome a cameo from a 60 year old Amsterdam Valon would be lol. It'd be useless, but for some reason the idea popped into my head.

I suppose Leo could pull it off. Hope he dons a giant moustache for the role. As much as I loved the book, I really don't see them focusing too much on the World's Fair aspect. Too boring for a general audience. If anything it will probably be an above average slasher flick from the killer's point of view.

Holmes is described as very dashing and charismatic in the book. This is pretty perfect casting. I remember Fincher being attached to this a while ago. Is he still on board?

Leo as a serial killer?

i'm in! the story sounds very promising

Wow. But how are they going to fit in all the Architecture / World's Fair stuff into this? Or are they just going to stick with the serial killer part. Which was.. what? 1/3 of the book?

:thing: :doom: :thing:

It looks like Fallon from The Prestige, he just needs Clark Kent glasses...

Dexter must have got some inspiration from this guy...

Very exciting news, sounds like a pretty edgy role for Leo. I really hope this gets a good director (and I'm talking A-class, like Fincher or Scorsese)

I've been anting to read this book for a few months now. Funny enough, yesterday in my school library I looked this up and they have it. Now I have to read this now. I could definitely see this working for Leo. I'll see anything he's in pretty much but him as a serial killer is intrigueing and exciting. He can definitely pull it off. Get Scorsese to do this and you got a film. I can already see a cool juxtposition of a scene with him killing someone and getting rid of the body while the fair is going off with fireworks. Imagine Scorsese directing it with Thelma Schoonmaker's cutting.

I'm reading too many damn books now for school. Once I finish those I'll try to pick this up.

I hope this gets started soon. I just finished the book and judging by the few pictures online of the World's Fair, it looked amazing. I would love to see it recreated.

I don't know, the World's Fair had some crazy stuff happen to it. Tornadoes, explosions, and multiple building collapses. Doesn't sound boring to me.

Remember people call Leo DiCRAPrio cause we all thought he was just another pretty boy with no acting chops what-so-ever? Now, Leo is one of the most bankable movie stars in the world

I always thought he was good, though. Even on Growing Pains, man!

Well okay, maybe not that far back. I still find it hysterical though that he was on that show for like, half a season and moved on to become the biggest movie star on the planet, while *****ey teen idol Kirk Cameron spends his time trying to teach people that evolution is a lie. :hehe:

Leonardo DiCaprio is my favorite actor in Hollywood right now. I'm surprised he hasn't gotten an oscar yet. In time, Leo, in time.

The man deserved it for The Aviator. Who was he up against?

DiCaprio is on a really hot streak right now, and his upcoming slate of films (Hoover, The Great Gatspy) all seemed very promising. And now he's taking a chance to play a serial killer, which he has never done before (playing a villain), and like Bale's American Psycho I think this will turn out well. It makes me want to pick up the novel for "White City" as well.

Jamie Foxx won for Ray. Don Cheadle, Johnny Depp, and Clint Eastwood were also nominated for Hotel Rwanda, Finding Neverland, and Million Dollar Baby respectively.

Ah. Well... Foxx did deserve it. He did embody Ray Charles.

But Leo better get his soon or he's going to get one of those apologetic honorary Oscars.

I thought Leo was brilliant in Shutter Island.

He won't, but it would be nice. I loved him in both films.

He may not get the nomination, but I don't understand why he won't be. He was stellar in both films, directed by two great directors, and with Inception has a bit of a sci-fi theme it's not exactly presented in a fantasy setting. Besides, I don't think there are that many performances this past year that are automatic candidates for leading actor category.

Big bump

Off all the film and TV projects Appian has in the works, DiCaprio seems most enthusiastic about the adaptation of Erik Larson’s true tale “The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair That Changed America,” in which the actor would play serial killer H.H. Holmes. “We have a script for that. We’re doing our last couple rewrites, but it’s amazing,” he enthuses. “I want to be in that one. That one is very real.”
