Leonardo DiCaprio to produce Captain Planet Movie

If anyone here is watching Vixen the animated show on the CW seed DC is pretty much using Captain Planet as a reference lol. Only instead of rings its totems and there's no blue guy that comes when you combine them. Vixen seems to have gotten the spirit totem or the equivalent of heart! I must say though DC's version is so much cooler!

In regards to the movie I'd be cool if the person who held the heart ring had the same powers as Vixen. ;)

Captain Planet is really about being well-meaning but awful.
And for a while I assumed your username is inspired by the American from team Planeteers.
This is the show that inferred that baby killing countries had the right idea because our population is getting too big.
Watching that episode now, and I remember liking that episode in a young age, but had zero memory of it out of Wheeler in trunks talking to small talking creatures.

Used to love the show as a kid, can't see it making fir a good movie though personally.

So, I just watched the episode. I really don't remember ever seeing small talking mice on this show.

Anyway, I didn't get the feeling they were implying that baby-killing countries had the right idea. I mean, I'm sure that's not what they wanted kids to take away from the episode.

I did think it was interesting how in 1991, at 5 billion, there were calls for preventing overpopulation and now we're at more than 7.

"Recommend" Seriously? In any case, If something as good as Tomorrowland can't get an audience I fail to see how anything but this satire idea could get an audience.

You gotta be kidding me. They're actually doing this? Excuse me while I die of laughter.

There was an article awhile back about how much he pollutes with his private planes and yachts.

lol

This might be the second time in three-four years we hear about this idea.
If this movie does happen, I'll laugh a little.

So on the latest movie fights episode, they were talking about the Captain Planet movie and Max Landis made a pitch for it. Even though I still hate the guy for what he tried to do to Power Rangers, I enjoyed his pitch a lot.

However Benedict Cumberbatch as Captain Planet? Really?

Cumberbatch is made for a mullet.

My thoughts exactly. I remember watching the show as a kid, and had some of the action figures. But lord, has the show aged terribly.

Maybe they will go all "grim dark" for this movie.

Sorry if I'm repeating my self but there are other ways of adapting cheesy kid tv shows other than "grim dark" or the marvel approach.

This isn't some prized possession of a show that should cause everyone to scream "my childhood!!".

I say turn the show on its head and create something different out of it rather than the standard Superhero action movie we get every week.

If only if they made more cartoons for it like they did for Ninja Turtles.

Max Landis described a fun Captain Planet movie starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Captain Planet.

Can you link me to that? Am a fan of listening to Landis pitch movies.

So how many here want to bet this is going to feature global warming in a quite heavy handed way?

Considering what captain planet is all about I don't see why they wouldn't however I don't think its going to play out like some are expecting.

Plus global warming is a pretty big issue and CP is the appropriate platform for that discussion.

I mean the villains of Captain Planet are creatures who are out to literally pollute the planet on purpose. Their whole goal is to cause pollution because they enjoy it and stuff.

Like they don't want to actually "destroy" the planet. They just want to cause lots of pollution and revel in post-apocalyptic polluted Earth.

Just look up the ScreenJunkies YouTube channel then look for their latest movie fight featuring Max Landis and Robert Kirkman and you'll have it. I'd link it here but due to profanity the mods might not like it.

The thing with those is that they're written as goofy cartoon characters from that time period and have never really had the opportunity to be re-imagined with more depth like the way Shredder from TMNT for example has been re-imagined over the years who was goofy in the 80's then edgy in the 2000's.

If they made reboots like they did TMNT, Transformers, GI Joe, Thundercats and recently Voltron, they'd be better written.

No, they'd just be greedy corporate suits or Donald Trump types.

I'm just not sure how you re-imagine any of those villains so they can be "serious" characters.

Just in contrast, with something like Masters of the Universe, there was a more serious iteration of Skeletor that pre-dated the Filmation cartoon in the mini-comics. The old mini-comics were basically like Robert E. Howard Conan stories but skewing for a younger age.

By the very nature of the Captain Planet concept, I don't know you can make it into Batman v Superman. I just don't see it at all.

I hope this is the first part of a new cinematic universe that builds toward the epic crossover, Captain Planet vs. The Toxic Avenger.

So basically the pitch for the movie is this. . .
