Lethal Weapon Movies vs. Die Hard Movies

True. And before that it was supposed to be a sequel to "The Detective," a 1968 flick with Frank Sinatra! They're both based on books by the same author. And I believe it is the same character.

I really haven't seen any of the LW movies...always felt I be cheating on the Die Hard series.

Kinda like how I really am not in Star Trek, cause I saw the Star Wars movies first. Although I recall seeing some of TNG show as a kid, and seen of of their movies, I am not a Trekkie.

There's no reason you can't enjoy both.

If it takes all the films being great/as good as the first in order for a franchise to be deemed 'great' then I'd say no franchise measures up to that standard. Best we can hope for is a series in which none of the films in it suck. At least that's my take on it.

Well, here's why I put it the way I did: I was going to say that, with both series, every sequel is at best "pretty good." I then remembered that I think Die Hard: With a Vengeance is better than "pretty good." Yes, a series with sequels that measure up to the original is rare, and I can't expect as good as Die Hard, that'd be unfair. Ultimately, though, I'd still choose Die Hard and say that With a Vengeance is better than any Lethal Weapon sequel.

Yep, and I was just watching that new "Decoding Die Hard" disc on the 25th Anniversary release, and in it, they said they were even contractually obligated to offer Sinatra the chance to reprise the role in the film, too. Thankfully, he knew as well as anyone that he was far too old to make that movie and passed, lol.

Yep, and I was just watching that new "Decoding Die Hard" disc on the 25th Anniversary release, and in it, they said they were even contractually obligated to offer Sinatra the chance to reprise the role in the film, too. Thankfully, he knew as well as anyone that he was far too old to make that movie and passed, lol.

Is this a remastered Blu Ray release with all the trimmings?

I believe all the blu-rays are the same as the already existing blu-ray releases (I can't be sure since I only had the old DVD release, but that's what I've read), with all the trimmings they already had. And they've just added this extra "Decoding Die Hard" disc - which is admittedly pretty great - to the bundle.

"Decoding Die Hard" covers all the movies, and features interviews with just about everyone who ever had anything to do with the series...except, strangely, Willis himself. And including, even more strangely, the creator of Chuck, lol. I mean, I know Reginald Veljohnson reprised his role as Al Powell in Chuck, but they don't mention that at all, so Chris Fedak's inclusion here seems like that of a totally random fan, haha.

Another bit of nice trivia that I didn't know, was that they got the title from Joel Silver's good friend, Shane Black, who was brainstorming titles for The Last Boyscout at the time.

Thanks fore the info, The decoding Die Hard discs seems to include some strange and infornmative things, I wonder why Bruce didn't get involved. Truthfully I'm hoping for a 2 Disc remastered Blu Ray, steelbook, release of just the first film.

Yes all true. Die Hard is based off the novel "Nothing Lasts Forever", Sequel to The Detective. Die Hard 2 is based off a novel called 58 Minutes by Walter Wager. Die Hard With A Vengence was based off of an original script by Jonathan Hensleigh called "Simon Says" and was originally going to be Lethal Weapon 4. Die Hard 4.0 was an original script called WW3.com that was based off of a Wired magazine article. I've not seen A Good Day To Die Hard yet but I find it slightly funny that the one that most people/critics are calling the worst one is the only one that's script was specifically written has a Die Hard movie.

PS....Whenever I see the title Nothing Lasts Forever i always think its one of the non Fleming Bond novels lol....

I'd go Die Hard. I saw all the LW movies once each and wasn't overly impressed with them. Die Hard on the other hand is a film I reserve for Christmas Eve every year, then watch the others whenever.

So yeh, minus the newest one, Die Hard is awesome.

I didn't know that DHWAV was originally meant to be Lethal Weapon 4, but I can see it fitting well with the Riggs character.Did Die Hard 2 credit the book it used as the blueprint for the movie?

'Simon Says' was meant to star Brandon Lee. After his death it moved on to be, possibly, Lethal Weapon 4 and than ended up as Die Hard With A Vengeance.

I didnt' know people were so divisive about Lethal Weapon 2. Lethal Weapon 2, to me, is one of the best action sequels of all time that features great action, memorable villains, memorable quotes, and upped the stakes. The South Africans made great villains, and the twist about Riggs' wife I thought was well executed. Sure, it's not as steeped in noir as Lethal Weapon 1 has, and the tone for the first half of the movie is considerably lighter than LW1, but when LW2 got dark, s**t just got real.

Anyway, love Lethal Weapon 1 and 2, find the third to be okay (underwhelming villain and plot though), and the fourth one's a guilty pleasure.

I only love the first Die Hard, find the second one okay, the third one to be good, and the fourth one pretty bad. I'll wait until Netflix for the fifth one.

I'm giving the edge to the Lethal Weapon series just because of LW2 and also because I like Lethal Weapon 1 slightly more than Die Hard.

One can make the argument that Lethal Weapon 2 is superior to Lethal Weapon. Hell, Donner, Glover, and Gibson all say the second one is their favorite of the franchise.
