Will Lethal Weapon be reloaded?

And here they swirl again.... no, not the dancers at the steak house.... those "Lethal Weapon 5" whispers.
We've received reliable word that Warners are in the early stages of trying to relaunch the popular action series. Not a bad idea, everyone loves the films, and Mel Gibson could really do with a hit or two right now. Will it happen? I'd say there's a much better chance of it happening now - because of the old heroes being dusted off left, right and center - but it ain't going to be easy convincing everyone that a fourth sequel is worthwhile. It's going to have to be a strong script.
'Candlestick' works for one of the big men involved in the series - and offers us a little update.
"Hey Clint, still working over here at [place of employment removed] as [position]. Probably no surprise to hear, but there's more Lethal talk. Apparently the whole trend of resurrecting old action heroes, like John McClane (in "Live Free or Die Hard") and John Rambo has spurred them on. Twelve months after Gibson turned down the offer to do a fifth one, they're trying again. Something might have changed - guess his career is kind of in the ****ter? - because it seems to be going somewhere. That's this week anyway. We shall see. Danny Glover's not committing until he sees a script."
Shane Black Where Art Thou?
Director Richard Donner apparently has a script... or an outline... or something he thinks is worthwhile. A couple of years back he sounded keen anyway.
"It's up to Mel," Donner said. "If he says yes then there's another Lethal Weapon. I have a great story, I'd love to do it and put Lethal Weapon to bed."
"If they want to go and make it without Mel well, go ahead and be my guest but it's not for me. Mel is Lethal Weapon," he said. "It was hard for Mel to do Lethal 4. It was really hard on him. For Lethal Weapon 5 it would have to be a story that would be worthwhile, but I think maybe there is something out there."
Do you guys agree?

Should have Glover being retired, have Mel in his last year and some new recruit who's crazier than Mel in part 1 & 2. I'd go for it.

I rather watch Lethal Weapon 5 than the upcoming Rush Hour 3. :o

Truth.

Could be cool, as long as Mel is up for it. Glover's a little long in the tooth but I wouldn't be surprised if he shows up too.

It'll probably happen.

Not sure how I feel about this. If they end up bringing in new guys to replace Riggs and Murtaugh ala part 4, count me out. Chris Rock was enough.

It is true that Lethal 3 & 4 weren't as good as Lethal 1 & 2 but I enjoyed all four movies. That being said...I've been saying since 1998 that if they ever did make a 5th installment it should return to its dark roots.

My idea is for the kids (Riggs child and Murtach's grandkid) to be kidnapped. It could be like in the first Lethal Weapon when the daughter got kidnapped but more interesting since it'll be little kids.

I liked two the most. Probably because I got to know the characters and I loved watching Mel going into a rage at the end. Man he was awesome in that one. I also loved how the film started right in the middle of a chase scene and never let up.

I love them all. I really like 4 though.

The series' steadily decreased in quality with each sequel IMO, the 4th one felt like a family sit com with some action thrown in, if they make a 5th,i hope they clean out the line up and get closer to 1 and 2.

they need to get Shane Black back. 3 and 4 werent as good cause he didnt write any of them. He actually wanted Riggs to die in the second one.

Leave the little kids alone Catman.:whatever:

this is like die hard to me. they need to curse.

Easy money again...

Huh? There are new films out every year. Then there's also franchises that feature characters people like and are familiar with and of course sell tickets. There's room for both.

The story has to be incredible if they want to get mel back. It's not like he needs to do this. His last two movies did very well and he made enough money off the Passion of the Christ alone to retire. If they do it, I hope they get shane black to not only write but direct as well. I think black did a good job on kiss kiss bang bang.

I get that AD, but it's still kinda sad that most of the movie release (music is the same), is based on re-hash of something that's been done already

All the pinguins (too much smiley to use) are follow-up, or re-hash of something that's been done before (a movie, a tv serie etc etc...)
13 movies showing, 7 are re-do or sequel...
I just notice that it's easier to make money out of something people know, as opposed to something that's new...

People are scared of what they don't know
And i totally understand the reason why movies like these are blossoming everywhere.
I'm just more thrilled about Mel gibson going for Apocalypto than LW 5 (and i like the films a lot)

If Shane Black was writing AND directing, I'd be first in line.

OT: Anyone else feel like KKBB really got screwed over for no good reason? You'd think a movie with such recognizable stars and Joel Silver as producer, there'd have been more of a marketing push for it. Not to mention theater coverage. The movie only played at one theater in my general area for about three weeks. I almost missed the last showing before it came out of theaters.
