"Let's get nuts!"

The best I can tell, it was one of the best moments and best deliveries in any comic book movie ever made.

What did that line mean in Batman (1989)?

Was this out of place?

Michael Keaton ad-libbed the scene.

According to him, the bit is a "psychological ploy" to distract the Joker from Vicki and put more of the focus on him, so that whatever happened, the Joker would take out any aggression he seemed to have on Vicki on him instead. The Joker was unhappy with Vicki's earlier behavior, and he might have hurt her like he did Alicia.

It's also out of the fact that Bruce is frustrated that here's the Joker, and he's Bruce Wayne, and Bruce Wayne can't take down Batman's foe.

It's meant to work on several levels.

Literally it's an invitation to get nuts.

I think Bruce was telling Joker: "Okay, tough guy, you think you having a white face is excuse enough to be crazy and being crazy is excuse enough to come here, play with my girl and bully me. Okay, let me tell you; my parents were killed in front of me when I was 6 and I have been never able to have a normal life since then, no chicks, no friends, etc. So don't come here to whine about your luck and brag about your mental issues with your fancy clothes cuz you're not the only one screwed in the brain and using weird clothes here. Yeah, you want to play the crazy fella, let's play together!"

Was this out of place?

Being Batman and Joker it couldn't have been more in place.

An yes, great scene. I like how, after Joker and Bruce are gone, in a few seconds Vicki finds out things (Bruce is gone and faked his death and Joker's present) and can't decide who of them is more weird than the other.

Lol i like that scene, but you gotta think, Bruce must of run into another room or something, he couldn't of got outside. Ive wondered were and how he would of gone for some time now :p

yeah I heard that his lashing out like that was out of frustration for the fact that he was caught in a situation where he couldn't take down Joker and his men as Batman.

Basically like a "GOD DAMN IT I wish I had my Batsuit!"

CFE

I laugh my ass off every time I watch that scene. :D

The Joker was justified in shooting him. He rubbed another man's rhubarb.

okay...I've never known this...but just what the hell IS a rhubarb?

I never found that out...

huh....okay...

I can't remember exactly. But I think in the comic book adaption it shows that Bruce is wearing the batsuit under his clothes and has the utility belt on. He uses his grapple to swing out of a window. It's been awhile and I would have to dig out the book to be sure. I remember when I read it though that it looked like a cool scene that I wish they had filmed.

Of course it's been awhile so I could just be talking out of my a$$ and that wasn't there. Anybody have the adaption on hand that can verify.

But yes, the "let's get nuts" is a cool scene. I liked the look in Keaton's eye...all pissed off and ready to fight then jack asks him that question.

LOL

How would the Bat suit from the movie fit under clothes? :woot:

The scene in which Bruce goes beserck is indeed a little strange. We as the viewer do have to stop and ask ourselves his reasoning behind it, and I agree with who I quoted above.

-"Let me tell you about this guy I knew, Jack, mean kid, bad seed, hurt people..."

-"I like him already"

-"The only problem was he got sloppy, ya know? crazy. he had a head full of bad wiring I guess, couldn't keep it straight up here. He was the kind of guy who couldn't see the train until it was two feet in front of him. You know what happened to this guy Jack? Well, he made mistakes. Then he had his LIGHTS KNOCKED OUT! NOW YOU YOU WANNA GET NUTS? COME ON!! Let's get nuts."

I love this scene

Exactly it wouldn't...probably why it didn't get filmed in the first place.
But I do remember in the comic he was running in the suit without the cape or mask away from the building. really need to dig that out or find a scan.
