Level 33.1 and the Justice League

Okay, so. I had an idea today. Figured I'd run it by you guys.

A lot of us here remember Jinx, perhaps if only because it was a terrible episode that raped a beloved character from the comics. Now, at the end of that episode, after Mxy has lost his powers, Lex takes him somewhere mysterious. Somewhere known only as "Level 33.1."

And that was the last we saw of it. According to the creators, it was abandoned because it was, perhaps, too unrealistic.

Personally, I always thought that Lex was collecting young people with super-powers and training them.

Anyway, we all know that by the eleventh episode of this season (Justice), we'll have Clark, Olliver, Bart, AC, Victor, and possibly that chick from Vengeance together as a sort of makeshift Justice League.

Personally, I think this is a perfect opportunity to re-introduce Level 33.1 and finally wrap up that plotline once and for all.

Imagine it - say by 6x11, Lex has some reason to have a beef against Ollie. Or, maybe he hears that AC is back in town and wants a little revenge. So he sends in a few super-powered lackeys from Level 33.1 to take care of business. Little does Lex know, however, that AC and Ollie have backup in the way of Clark and Victor. A big super-brawl ensues, and the young Super-friends win.

Now, I know this'll never happen and it's probably too much to hope for, but I just had this thought, thought it would be really cool if it happened, and decided to share it with you guys. Thoughts?

It wouldn't have been so bad if they had named the character something else...but they were trying to get in a "nod" to the fans with a character who didn't even resemble his namesake. I'm willing to deal with a lot of changes, but if you're going to completely change a character and his powers, you might as well be Brett Rattner making X3.

Well, I'm not sayhing 33.1 is a storyline that needs addressing - the show has certainly proven itself able to get along without it. And even if the Vengeance Chronicles did do some stuff with it (I haven't seen it yet), that's not really the same as doing addressing it on the show (which IMO supercedes anything else as far as canon goes). There are plenty of ways a writer could explain it so that they both tied in to 33.1 without having to rewrite canon.

I just thought it was a pretty decent idea, and it's pretty much a built-in way for the faux Justice League to battle a faux Legion of Doom. And really, how cool would that be?

OK it's early I'm blanking what are the Vengence Chronicals Rene?

I do know that verizon (I think) promo had Mxy leaving the floor in one of the text messages, that may have been their idea of wrapping it up. IMHO if they start closing some of the gaps I think they ought to start with the Stones.

The Vengeance Chronicles were a series of webisodes sponsored by Acuvue after the episode "Vengeance" aired. They're also available in their entirety on Disc 4 of the Season 5 set. They were essentially like the Chloe Chronicles from a few seasons back.

As far as canon goes, I'm pretty sure anything involving the actual stars of the show is considered "canon." Unlike, say, the comics or the novels.

Fignutts, I loved Jinx. I thought it was one of the better episodes of season four. Just like Spell though, Jinx is very highly debated, people could go either way on how they felt about it.

Like I said, I think I would have liked it a lot better if they hadn't named the character "Mxy." He had little-to-no relation to the character from the comics and the abilities weren't even the same. If he'd had some other name, it would have been a much better episode. But the fact that they forced in a comic reference left a really sour taste in my mouth...

yea, they should have hired verne troyer in a white wig to play the chracter, that would have made it soooooooooooo much better.

My dad thought the same thing, that he shouldn't have been named that. It didn't bother me though, since Mxy can do or be anything, so he could have been the same guy, just not showing who or what he really was...since we know that is for later in Supes life.t:

I suppose that's a possibility. I just wish they would have at least done more with him than just make him able to "jinx" people.

It's a decent episode as far as FOTW episodes go, and IMO if the character had just had a different name it would have been one of the better FOTW's, but the name is just one of my pet peeves I guess.

Oh well. I didn't start the thread to talk about Jinx, though. :P What did y'all think of the idea?

In the Vengeance Chronicles they say that Lex shut down Level 33.1 during the election campaign of Season 5. And if you take into account the freaks from Mortal that were given little green cocktails and were suddenly cut off and shipped back to Belle Reve, then I think you can say that its definitely a closed story.

But I do like the idea of perhaps Lex having kept "the best of them" and training them to do his dirty work.

See, even if it's not 33.1, I still think something like that would be really good for this season - not only because of the Justice League, but also because this is the season we're supposed to see Lex fully embrace his dark side. I think Lex utilizing meta-humans to take out people he percieves as threats would be a perfect way to show that and at the same time give us a full-out superhuman brawl.

Cyborg is one of my favourites from Season 5. It was a really well put together episode and showed us a side of Lex Luthor that we would expect of him.

And Clark has a line to Lex "you always think the end justifies the means".

It's so WHY their relationship fails.

It was beatifully shot, wonderfully acted and exciting and I really liked the hints at why Clark and Lex will have their final rift, like avid pointed out.

But then you won't see the bonus disc on the making of Reckoning. I really enjoyed the behind-the-scenes look at the show. I think it's still available online.. somewhere though.

I watched that episode again last night. It was the only one I hadnt seen on the new disc set.

I agree with you that the actor who played Victor was really terrific. The only thing wrong with that episode was that you can tell that Tom was not feeling at all well. You can especially see how pale he is in that first scene he has with Victor outside of the hospital.
