If Supermans a huge hit, exspect Welling in a suit by midseason sweeps.

but... but...... he's not in Metropolis yet!!!
and whatever the hell happened to the no tights policy? (i know, i know same as what happened to the no flight policy)

if he wears the tights now he'd be Superboy

okay..... i gotta relax about this...... 1....2......3......

I also belive we will see Welling in the suit now that the movie will be out and all.

i highly doubt it, considering the show is not about that for one. 2 Welling has it in his contract that he does not want to wear the blue suit. Thats the only reason he even signed on for smallville. 3 the show is called smallville:confused:

1. They also said the show wasn't about flying, and he did.

2. It is NOT in Welling's contract that he doesn't want to wear the suit. All this BS regarding Welling not wanting to do the show and not wanting to wear the suit came from the statement that Welling made about Superman being in high school, and he said that didn't interest him. He has never said he didn't want the role or didn't want to wear the suit. That whole rumor is totally bogus.

3. Yea thanks for reminding me of the shows title, couldn't remember that one for a moment. The show is called Smallville, but it is about Clark Kent, who we all know grows up to become Superman:)

And one other thing, I garuntee you if Welling had been offered the role of Superman in a big screen film, he would say yes, with no questions asked.

from what i can recall during the days of casting Welling did meet with Singer and he was "back-up", but it complicates things since Welling is in the middle of a very successful TV series and they dont want to end that (revenue$$$). thus they try to find another suitable candidate for backup, something the studios picked-- Caviezel, who doesnt have TV commitments and has just come off a very successful movie himself-- Passion of the Christ. the comparissons between Superman and Jesus Christ only supports Caviezel's bid for the role. but Singer was heard that he's looking into younger candidates who literally nobody has ever heard of. it took a long time and word starte to spread that if Singer doesnt make up his mind after a certain time period the studios will go ahead and sign Caviezel. then word leaked out that Singer has his pick. but the security around this actor was so tight so the name never came out until WB was ready to announce him.

then one day, a pictue came out ofa guy in a black t-shirt. and a name: Brandon Routh.

the rest is history.

How do the likes of Michelle Trachtenberg and Wilmer Valderrama get invited to these events? I do more in my sleep that those two do in Hollywood.

Welling was never a back up, Superman Returns isn't Metropolis (or whatever you want to call the next generation of Smallville). The shows continuity in relation to the characters means that Clark will never be Superman as we know him. No if's, ands, buts.

I was just saying, if it IS a HUGE success, exspect the swarmy produsers to put Welling in a Blue suit, just so they can attempt to draw that audience and popularity.

Scott Baio and Tracy Gold used to show up at these things as well in the 80's. This is no different. Their agents loose a little bit of blood, the beast grands them Red Carpet time, and more mis spent youth falls into the black well. Bwahahahaha!

I think if push came to shove they would have cancelled the show. Also, Welling never met with Bryan Singer, he actually met with Brett Ratner during his time period on the film. I think Singer came out from day one and said Welling was too famous to be his choice for Superman.

I do remember that Jim Caviezel was the back up choice. I wouldn't have been disappointed, as I love Caviezels work and I think he is a wonderful actor, but yes after Passion he was to well known, and plus he is 37 years old. Why they didn't try to pick Caviezel up back in 98 for Superman Lives Ill never know, oh wait, Jon Peters and Tim Burton are dumbasses.

And people ***** about Brandon Routh being young. I know for a fact that one of the people Singer brought in atleast for a meeting was Garrett Hedlund, who is only 22. Garrett was one of about two actors Singer brought in that hadn't auditioned for a previous director, along with Sam Heughan.

OMG! Peta Wilson!
How big is her role?
Small. She's like the main flight attendant on the shuttle talking to all the press.

his name was persistently coming up Niv, we had members/ contacts of members saying he was still the back up choice of Singer because Singer didnt want to go with the older Caviezel. wasnt there a rumour that Singer was gonna walk if the studio forced his hand about Jim? but ultimately Singer really wanted an unknown but was having a helluva time finding one.

i remember several posters here saying that Welling met with Singer. i was pretty sure of it. i think Singer said something postive about Welling and the show (was that when he was in Toronto for a meeting or something?). but he didnt address the issue of Welling and his movie right away. he's too smart for that. it was much later, when Singer said repeatedly that he's going with an unknown. said it so often that he sounded like a broken record. it was then that Singer finally said that Welling was not an unknown that he was looking for. judging by the time frame i think those were the days when he decided to go with Routh but he didnt tell anyone.

Welling was a long shot, even the most die-hard Welling supporter knows that. there was just so many things that gets affected if Welling was cast as Supes-- the TV show's cast and crew, continuity for the TV series and the movie, the general public's perspective on what SR will be (is it Smallville the movie? was it a Superman reboot? et al).

i'm just going by memory here guys, so forgive me if a mess up on the "facts" but i hung around this place so much and discussed the casting issue so often everyday for several months so if i said that this was the news that came out during that time-- that was the news that came out during that time. now as to the validity of those news and who brought them is anyones' guess. but then again thats all water under the bridge.

i wish SHH had some kind of archive so that we can get back to them.

Imagine if Singer had cast Welling and then Smallville replaced him with Brandon Routh lol!

Not that I am advocating the idea, but you could actually take Welling and Rosenbaum along with the Kents and place them in Superman Returns without confirming or denying that the Smallville timeline ever took place. Obviously you recast Lois and Perry though, to give the movie it's own feel. Again, not advocating this idea, just saying it's not as hard as you would think.

that's what i meant about public perspective dude, even if its just Welling alone taking him out of the tv series and placing him in the movie will have the public familiar with Smallville to think this is the movie version of it-- even if there is no intention of doing that. how much more if you add more cast members?

Imagine if Singer had cast Welling and then Smallville replaced him with Brandon Routh lol!
you can imagine what would've happened if the SV producers went with Routh instead. ;)

Dane Cook was the one who came up with that stupid superman joke right???
