The Dark Knight Little interview with Hans Zimmer about Joker theme

Personally, I'm not too fond of a tribal beat for Joker... but I've been wrong before.

Well, that's the obvious and safe choice that covers just about every kind of Joker. I expect to hear something like that at some point in TDK. But I wouldn't be surprised if no such music was heard.

Hans likes his little themes: he told Soundtrack.net many of the POTC leitmotifs were variations on the same three notes. I immediately thought of Jaws when he mentioned two notes.

Two notes sounds a little uncreative, but I'm not the professional composer, so I'll suspend judgment.

I'm excited to hear it, but a little disheartened that inspiration hasn't stricken him like lightening.

I'm worried about him saying he's having trouble finishing the Joker's theme.

That could spell out two things, he wracks his brain over it and comes up with something great or he comes up with something half assed.

Thats what I said dude, maybe batman just isn't his thing.

Yeah, Begins had a two-note thing going too. People didn't like that because they thought it didn't count as a "theme". I thought it worked.

I thought it was kind of half-assed actually.

BUMMM-BUMMMMM

I could have come up with that. Begins is my favorite movie, but the score is below average.

What the hell? There was much more to the Begins score than a simple two-note motif. Listen to Myotis. Listen to Antrozous. Listen to Molossus. Listen to the end credits. Hell, listen to the whole, damn thing! There are many different rythms and tones crambed into the Begins score.

I really like the Begins score - it was slightly understated, which suited the tone of the film perfectly; it wasn't overpowering like some scores are.

The Begins score is amazing. It really opened my eyes to how wonderfully talented music composers are, and how much cinema would suffer in their absense.

Composers such as Hans Zimmer can basically tell a story with a bunch of musical instruments.

:pal:

Speaking of which, I'd love see a themesong for him that changes at a mad pace, like one second it'll be all calm and peaceful, then it'll change into something fast-paced and dramatic. A bit like Birthday Massacre's song 'Blue' but not as girly.

I like the Birthday Massacre too, my favorite song by them is Video Kid. I listened to Blue, it’s cool. A song with the same momentum as a rollercoaster ride would be fitting.
I’m all for the electronic approach as well. EBM, if anyone here knows what that is.
I think a song called Snuff Machinery by a band called [SITD] would be cool to have on the soundtrack or either make a music video with.

When the DVD comes out, us fans can make music videos and synch TDK with the music of our choice. That’s going to be cool to see.

Nice interview!

I know this is a dark movie and the music should be kept as so, just like Begins. But what The Dark Knight needs is a moving, sad theme. At least one. Begins lacked that. The only thing not dark it had (for the most part) was Rachel's theme, and that wasn't really sad.

If Rachel is killed they need to go all out on a sad theme.

If you stand and scream, while crying "oh God help me:" You have a 2% chance.

If you run down the stairs, thinking the killer is in the other room - but the audience knows the killer is down stairs waiting on you: You have a 2% chance.

If you jump out the window, thinking the killer is downstairs - but the audience knows the killer is in the other room: You have a 2% chance.

Why?

Because Horror movies are predictable. :(
so.... don't like horror flicks huh?:woot:
ahh who cares.... you like hans and james' score, i love it. and we can both agree that it's one of the best scores out there til TDK comes out.:meanie:

I thought the bat wing flaps were particularly clever, actually. The most predictable part of that score was the synthesizer car chase cue, but it's a popular thing to do especially for Zimmer so....eh.

Matrix also had a two-note main theme played with brass, but I'd recognize it anywhere, LOL. For each movie, the main titles were played a half-key higher from the previous film.

I remember the "Joker's lament" song that came out last year supposedly by Hans Zimmer. It sounded awesome but turned out to be fake. :(
I wished it was his theme, it seriously sounded so badass.

I remember that, Yurka. I was also very disappointed to find it was fake :(

hold the phone!! you have this?:wow:

I hope the music in this movie has a Michael Mann-feel. The prologue sort of has that style.
