The Dark Knight Little interview with Hans Zimmer about Joker theme

Personally, I'm not too fond of a tribal beat for Joker... but I've been wrong before.

I think that The Joker has always been unruly, almost a God of Chaos. There's a reason that in the DC Universe he is possibly the most feared man alive, because the levels of his depravity are almost elemental in scope. I think a theme that is almost suggestive of the inhuman would be quite fitting for him. But only when he absolutely loses it (You know, like firing a machine gun in a street whilst screaming "HIT ME!").
But before then have notes of the tribal beat spliced into the two-beat rhythm. As a reminder that unspeakable violence is constantly just bubbling under the surface. This is the same guy who, one minute, can challenge you to a surfing competition and the next cripple your daughter and take pictures of her naked, bloodied body. He has no regularity or routine. Everything about him is unpredictable and bombastic. His theme should reflect this.

Two notes...

I wonder if it's a variation on the duhduhduhduhduhduhduhduhduhduh background music from BEGINS.

Yeah, I think it's gonna add a dee daa in there somewhere.

I just wanted to point out that a "two-note motif" or "motive", as it may be called, simply means that it stays within a two-note structure - this does not mean that if it appears as "A - B - A - B" it will just stay there; it can change to something like "E - F# - E - F#" which is basically modulation (if changing keys) or a simple movement within the particular scale.

One example of this (for all of you Star Wars fans :cwink:) is the theme of Dagobah in The Empire Strikes Back. John Williams (my favorite composer :O:woot:) uses a two-note motif to portray a kind of mysterious quality to the planet. Although the tones of the two notes change (as I explained above), the original effect remains the same.

Thanks, Yurka! I'm looking forward to hearing it again

I'm really looking forward to see what they compose for the Joker. I'm a big fan of the Begins score and I'm expecting the accompanying piece for TDK to surpass it.

Nice interview!

I know this is a dark movie and the music should be kept as so, just like Begins. But what The Dark Knight needs is a moving, sad theme. At least one. Begins lacked that. The only thing not dark it had (for the most part) was Rachel's theme, and that wasn't really sad.

If Rachel is killed they need to go all out on a sad theme.

What about Thomas Wayne's theme? It plays during the last flashback in BB when Bruce picks up his father's stethoscope. I found that quite moving.

Begins had a great score. I'm looking forward to hearing TDK's.

Nice article, can't wait to hear the Joker theme :D .

I already heard that before..........something here is very familiar !!!:huh:

Probably, it was released last year and its fake. Some people just wanted to hear it so I posted a link.

Thanks for uploading :)
I think it's an interesting piece for sure but would not work as his main theme. Perhaps it would be best for the moment where he dances with Rachel at knifepoijt as it has a ballroom quality to it. But as a main theme it does not have that element of danger or energy that The Joker commands.

Nope I remember now where I heard something very similar, on a french TV show !!!!

The main theme is excaltly the same !

Thats strange.

To each his own, I really like it.
