'Phooey' kicks into high gear

Hongkongphooey.jpg

"Alcon Entertainment has geared up its live-action/animated version of "Hong Kong Phooey" with Alex Zamm on board to direct from David Goodman's script. Alcon toppers Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove are producing along with Brett Ratner :-)dry:) and Jay Stern.

Project's an adaptation of the 1970s Hanna-Barbera animated TV series, about a police station janitor who becomes a dog with mystical powers, including the ability to do kung fu.

Alcon's financing and co-producing "Book of Eli," directed by Allen and Albert Hughes.

Goodman's written "Who's Killing the Great Chefs of Vegas" for Warner Bros. He continues as an exec producer on "The Family Guy."

Hope this doesn't turn into the next LA Chipmunks but who knows it might end up being somewhat entertaining.

they should make it computer Animated. i own the whloe series on dvd.

It's going to be in the same vein as Underdog, probably more absurd. I'll stick to the reruns on Boomerang.

^^Thats pretty much what I'm expecting. I doubt the movie will reach the heels of the cartoons level of comedy.

Plus Scatman Crothers made Phooey such a great character. Without him the movie is just a mainstream hollow shell of what the original was and with the "talent" (pfft) working on this film it only brings my expectations lower.

Oh crap, they pretty much ruined Underdog now this? :(

Just saw the director's IMDB filmography and.....

They can't do Hong Kong Phooey without Scatman. Hopefully this doesn't happen.

This is just getting ridiculous now.Is it really necessary to adapt everything?

I'm down. I actually wanted them to do this for a while because I am a fan of the toon. I think they can basically not do it as Underdog but just have it be accepted that there is an anthropormorphic CG dog in the real world that can work, walks on two legs, and is a custodian. Who remembers Sublime doing a cover of the theme song? This must be in the movie.

Guys, this is a surefire masterpiece. It's coming from the same director of Chairman of the Board, Inspector Gadget 2, Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2, and The Tooth Fairy 2.

How can it not be good?

Eddie Murphy can basiclly imitate anybody. Go look at his SNL days,

This will be a groundbreaking masterpiece! Oscars galore, I say!

ok so they are working there way through the entire hanna barbera library and missing the main two that could easily be transferred flintstones and jetsons

whats next huckleberry hound voiced by marilyn manson

I'm still waiting for WB to get this Dyno-Mutt and Blue Falcon movie off the ground. With Nolan exec producing of course.

 When is the idea going to die off?

It's going to be as bad as the Smurfs and Spy Kids.

Yes, he looks creepy as ****, but at least it's not an Underdog cheap out.

Looks interesting. And I agree, Mike Epps would've been a better voice.

why all the Underdog hate??

I really enjoyed Underdog. I was shocked they got as much in there as they did. Yeah the name shoeshine was forced, but i loved how the rest played out. I was VERY entertained.

Underdog had Jim Belushi in it. And when Jim Belushi is in something, chances are very likely that something sucks.
