'Krypton' Spinoff 'Lobo' in the Works at Syfy

Syfy is looking to expand the world of Krypton.

The NBCUniversal-owned cable network is developing a spinoff of the Warner Horizon TV series built around the character of Lobo. The DC Comics character will make his debut during season two of the Syfy drama, which returns Wednesday.

This has potential, I'm not sold on the actor. Lobo is one of my all time favorites, the accent is taking some adjustment. But from what we have seen from the featurette, the writing was very Lobo.

Lobo has always been in my top 5 favorites, so I'm really excited to see him on Krypton tonight.

Also, I imagine the actor will end up getting pretty buff before the series starts filming. I think he's already mentioned that he wasn't as big as he'd like to be before they started filming Krypton.

I am glad about this. A bounty hunter sci-fi show can go to a lot of places. I liked the actor playing Lobo as I saw in tonight's Krypton. He is funny and yes, he just has to buff up a bit.

Emmet J Scanlan has been on numerous TV shows over in these waters and I always thought he had potential for Hollywood. Hopefully he can make a success of this show. And yes, he's getting bigger!

I actually remembered that Emmet J Scanlan used to be on a soap opera called Hollyoaks where he pretty much played a likabe but sociopathic criminal and he was actually pretty good in the role as he had charisma, so I have no doubt that he will do a good job as Lobo. There were some complaints that the actor looked scrawny to be Lobo but I'm glad that he intends to build up more muscle for the role.

The "Captain Jack" stuff is apparently true, after that first ep. I'm trying to be open minded...

Yeah, the Spazfrag should look awesome. I hope we get to see space dolphins...

They made a mention of Lobo being the Bishop of the First Celestial Church of The Triple Fish God in a promo. I thought that was hilarious. That was from a comic from some years back.

Mixed feelings about this because I always thought Lobo would be the next big DC movie. He's a one man Guardians of the Galaxy mashed with Deadpool. The template and fanbase are there for the taking.

That being said I'll take what I can get, and I'm happy with what I've seen from Emmet. Not only will I probably adjust to the accent, I have a feeling this might end up being the definitive version of Lobo and future incarnations will have the same accent and lean build.

Remember when Rocket Racoon had that pseudo Australian accent in the animation and Marvel vs Capcom game, and everyone wanted Jason Statham to voice him in the movie? Fans adjust and forget quite easily.

I agree, I tend to find that in the long run accents and costume and certain other things lose their criticality if the characterisation is spot on. Of course, if it’s not, then everything becomes an issue.

I like what I'm seeing. I really hope he commits to this character. I don't know why, but he feels like the kind of actor that might feel he's too big for the role after season 1 or he doesn't want to typecast and just dips after season 1 like Christopher Eccleston did in Dr Who .

There so much they could do with Space side of DC, and morally grey character like Lobo. He doesn't even have to get as big as The Rock. He could easily make peak Chris Evans or Ryan Reynolds shape by the time they start shooting season 2.

Tighten up the costume (get better boots), get a different wig, tone down that accent to sound more alien... we could have something acceptable here. I think it's a given he's gonna be in the gym more.

I'd be very interested in this, always liked the Lobo character & I liked what I saw on Krypton.. after having seen the footage of Lobo I am more interested in watching Krypton as I hadn't been thus far.

I quite liked the Irish accent for him, it was something I never actually considered but I thought it suited the character because of how talkative & quick of wit he is.

Costume wise, I mean he looked fine, if he were to get his own show I'm sure it could be refined/improved.

As of right now, based on what I've seen of him on Krypton, I wouldn't watch a whole show centered on this character, as he can already be a bit grating even in these relatively small doses. But that could change.

Yea based on what I've seen I'm not sure how well his own show would work. It could be awesome or it could be a train wreck.

I think he needs a straight man co star to balance him out. Maybe he even has a small crew on his ship like Firefly or Guardians. Different personalities to bounce off.
