Iron Man 3 Location scouting already happening?

Yesterday I got a call from an old friend of mine who lives in southern France at the moment. He told me a film team was in town, scouting for locations and one of the members of said team told him it was for an Iron Man movie.
He wasn't sure if that was a joke or not, "but it sounded like one."

So, can anyone confirm that scouting has begun? and if so, why on the cote d'azure again? we already had monaco in the last one.

I would like to see Iron Man 3 have some more interesting filming locations and settings. China is probally number 1 on my list.

I assume you meant "North Carolina," and I assume you meant the passage of the anti-gay marriage amendment. (Was it so hard to just say what you actually mean....?)

I ain't proud of the amendment (I voted against it today), but now we're one of 31 states that have such a stupid document. So where exactly should Iron Man 3 drag up and move to...? And besides, IM3 is already confirmed to be shooting in China as well. Are you okay with *their* politics and human rights record....?

No, I'm not actually, in fact they could probably just use a soundstage for the scenes there.

Iron Man 3 isn't taking place in NC though, it'll probably be New York or LA. Now if they're using Hong Kong or Beijing in the film, then they should film whatever outdoor scenes they need and get out of there.

It really does sound as if they are mainly just using the soundstages that Wilmington has since the city invested pretty heavily in them during their usage during the run of Dawson's Creek and now afterwards to attract movies and TV shows.

Like most location shoots these days, it comes down to tax incentives and cheap (non-union) labor. Like it or not, those factors probably trump any unpopular political stances taken by either North Carolina or China.

Or anything shot in Hollywood. Prop. 8 anyone? Lets not forget that or how NY JUST passed gay marriage laws. NC is not as liberal and of course isnt going to support this at this point. Amazing how the recent conservatism of supposed 'liberal states, is forgotten.

since none of this has anything to do with filming a movie, I hope IM3 does not let stuff like this affect it's choices of where they choose to film.

It won't just be soundstage work, Feige said they will shoot in surrounding areas in the state as well as Wilmington. After they shoot all that, that's when the shoot will move to China.

My guess is that NC will double as NYC or SoCal, and use background plates for aerial shots.
