This is awesome. Darren Aronofsky writer/director of Requiem For a Dream and the upcoming movie The Fountain will be writing and directing Lone Wolf and Cub slated for an '08 release. Kazuo Koike's graphic novels are amazing and if anyone could do them justice it might just be Aronofsky. Anybody who's a Lone Wolf fan post a yea or ney about this please.

Though I knew of it, I never read the graphic novels. I did like the first couple of films in the original series. The last couple (I think there were 5 all together) were pretty bad.

Man you're lucky. My friend's got all of em so I've read them but I only personally own a few. Eventually I'll just break down and get the rest all at once. I've only seen the first of the old movies, it's kinda cool but it really has little to do with the books storywise. It's known for its violence more than anything.

yeah, they were very over-the-top in violence. Lots of severed limbs. Someone would be slashed and blood wold spray 10 feet like a pressure hose. haha. His sword work in the film was impressive though. Amazing how quickly he would have that thing out, slash 4 or 5 people and have it back in the scabard. And it would be all in one shot with no cuts.
I think they were a big influence on Tarantino's fight scenes in Kill Bill.

Yeah, I could see Tarantino drawing inspiration from the movies. The cover of Shogun Assassin is hilarious, exclaiming "It's impossible to keep a body count!" I'm anxious to see how Aronofsky handles the action, that's not something he's really done. There's so much you can do with the overall story though and I have confidence him as far as that goes.

I thought the last couple were really bad too and the only really GREAT one in the film series was Sword of Vengeance. I love Shogun Assassin though.. Arronofsky is a good choice to direct I guess its just that the series is so Japanese I dont know about Americanizing it. I HATE Kill BIll and really would prefer never to see crap like that get released again.. Whos gonna play Lone Wolf? Tom Cruise?

If I had my way there wouldn't be a single white person in it. But nobody in this country would go see it unless it was starring Jet Li or Jackie Chan. You really hate the Kill Bill movies? I thought they were awesome.

Actually, the movies used A LOT of the plots used in the graphic novels.
Sometimes whole plots, sometimes just parts of them.

I liked the violence and the look but I couldnt get over how totally thin it was. Plus, to me, I dont care how slick it is, KB totally seems like the americanized lame version of a whole lotta great different foreign genres.

DIVAS = LAME. Bill is almost a spoof of those movies to me anyway.

As for the Lone Wolf movies, I thought the third and fourth one were too boring (the original stories are probably more entertaining), but both of them were wayyy better than either Kill Bill.. At least they know what movie theyre supposed to be, and keep a simple story to an hour and a half.
