The film did not live up to the hype.

I’m so disappointed.

Truly. Kuddos to the marketing team behind this, it was much better than the film. I was so angry the last 25 minutes or so. Damn shame.

There was a moment during them 20 minutes or so, where I gasped out loud ‘’oh no’’, not because it was scary or anything close to it, but because I could not believe the chef ruined his own food, after so much prep time. Lawd. I wanted to walk out at that point but could not do that to Monroe.

Monroe and Cage were great. Eh.

Was Cage reaaaaaaaaaally that great?

I feel like people are giving his glorified cameo a little too much shine.

But Monroe was emoting her ass off. She did good.

I also implore more of you bastahs to give ‘Cure’ a watch. Now that film right there is kinda what this flick tried to be towards the end. That film is a genre masterpiece. Criterion release was great.

One thing I want to say not about the movie itself, but there were 20 minutes worth of trailers leading up to the film playing (minus the Deadpool and Wolverine phone bit), and I now have a number of horror movies coming soon that I would like to see. I didn't realize there were that many coming out this year.

There's still no reason for there to still be that many trailers and promos before a film plays, I say!

I’d say Nicholas Cage is one of the best parts and ruins it. It felt like part good crime thriller and part Cage being Cage to its detriment. I found him more unintentionally funny in over acting than creepy.

The ending was one of the better parts because -

Absolutely loved this film. One of my favorites in recent years. So much to discuss about this. Loved everything about it. The story, characters and performances, the tone, the tension and buildup. The direction, cinematography etc. So maybe I will get into it all another day. If it’s not your cup of tea that’s fine of course. But not getting involved in all the discourse and Gatekeeping that comes along with the horror community anymore. It’s the same **** with every fandom and community now. It’s so ****ing tiresome.

A rewatch really helped quite a ton for me. While I initially liked it (more so liked a lot of elements but did feel ultimately falling flat for me even though I didn’t want to admit it), I ended up genuinely loving it upon second watch.

I immediately felt it on the very first opening shot, given the perspective from the car driving up to

Lee’s house was from the perspective of the doll - you can see a faint black veil over the scene. That slapped me and I was in for the rest of the ride.

Moved from 7/10 to a confident 8.5/10 for me. Still The First Omen remains my favorite horror of the year.

Also! Sweet Lawd. I got around 8-9 trailers and that isn’t even counting them commercials in between them. Ryan Reynolds and his team going all out on marketing as well, I got about 3 Deadpool and Wolverine teasers and commercials. Goddamn.

I am from old Bedford Stuyvesant, you ride a Brooklyn bound A train at night and you’ll see a few real Longlegs.

It's great seeing a little indie horror flick like this be so successful out the gate and honestly I'm just glad Nic Cage has another mainstream hit film on his hands after how much he's struggled in what feels like the past 10 years not counting ITSV.

I really enjoyed Renfield and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent but they didn't do well at all at the BO which sucks and I can't remember the last big film Maika Monroe was in either but hopefully this gets her more high profile roles too.

This wasn't Silence of the Lambs, though. The similarities between the two don't really go beyond sharing a similar premise in the beginning. Longlegs is a different vibe, different tone, and subverts those expectations of being a typical serial killer mystery.
