Days of Future Past "Look upon the future and tremble!": The Official Apocalypse Thread

And SR is not a misfire on every level, last time I checked, it got a freshrating at Rotten Tomatoes.

And set the superman franchise back 7 years, and has virtually been forgotten by the general audience. Singar is a very good director, but I didn't wait nearly 20 years to see a romance novel involving superman and his bastard.

Super man is a beyond dull character, man of steel did nothing for me. I'm only watching the sequel for bats and wondy.

True. I said I'd take Superman Returns over MOS, but that isn't saying much. Superman as a character does absolutely nothing for me.

Since when did this turn into a Superman thread, lol.

Nah, we all have our favorites (I prefer Bats, Spidey and X-men myself) but Superman is arguably the greatest superhero ever created. Theres a reason he shows up #1 on lists and has been one of the most iconic for 80 years. And it aint just cause he was first. He stands for alot beyond the fact. Like every comic character, theres the good and the bad. All depends on the creative team.

...back on Apocalypse. I wonder if they will do some sort of AOA take and bring certain OT in as complete Alt versions, or if it will be somthing more on the lines of a lose version of the twelve.

So this guy needs to mop the floor with the X-Men come 2016.

He shouldn't be defeated after their first fight.

It has a 55% on Rotten Tomatoes. That's awful.

It should be in the low 80s. But tell that to the critics who felt it wasn't "nostalgic" enough.
Wow only 55%? I thought it would have done better than that. Just speaking for myself I thought MoS had its problems and I can see how it's a "bad Superman movie", but I thought as a Space Opera it was pretty good. I liked the Zod/Jor El story.

I wonder if he'll go by ensabahnur or apocalypes.

I hope both.

Also, I want the epic cackle from the animated series at least once.

That could be a bit cheesy, as would someone calling themselves Apocalypse. If he said something like 'I am the bringer of the apocalypse for humans and mutants alike, the end for your chaotic world' that could work, and he could be nicknamed Apocalypse by the X-Men.

even just "I am the apocalypse" would work to me. If done properly.

What does En Sabah Nur mean?

Does it mean "Apocalypse"?

No, it means 'The First One' in Arabic, according to Marvel. A name he was given by his adoptive father because of his weird appearance of grey skin and blue lips.

You realize we'd have a Superman Returns sequel if Singer wasn't caught up in Valkyrie reshoots right? It's the studios fault not the film itself.

I'm not sure that's the case. The studio head went on record saying the film 'didn't position the character the way we wanted.'

It was a heartfelt film but I think the superkid was a bit of a challenge for future films and the whole project was too reverential to the Donner movies rather than being a relaunch.

Anyway, this is the X-Men forum. SR was well debated in the Superman forums.

Yes, it is the case. Movie execs talking revisionist history isn't new.

lol... neither Wikipedia nor Hollywood are good sources of the truth... we live in a world of spin and lies. It's all about self-preservation and maintaining reputation and dignity.

Regardless of why a SR sequel never ended up being made, it's clear that Fox could never have waited for his return to the X-Men series for the X3 Dark Phoenix story. Even without an SR sequel, look how long it took Singer to come back to X-Men. Imagine if it was X3 being released in 2014, lol. That would be a 10-year gap since the previous movie (X2 in 2003).

Except when they have credible citations...

Those people (anyone in Hollywood) will say ANYTHING to keep their reputations intact. The general thing is that 'you're only as good as your last project' so no one wants to admit being in anything that failed in any way.

The only certainty is that an SR sequel never got made, and that they have now overcompensated for its flaws and gone to the other extreme with MoS.

I'm anxious to see how they have Apocalypse look, I hope they don't defer too much from the comic but also maybe tweak/alter his appearance a little for film.

I don't know where your going with this. All I know is a sequel was going to be made. Too much time passed, contracts expired, general lack of interest/ buzz, as well as increasing negative retrospective response. I don't know, nor do I care. It wasn't until The Dark Knight came out that it was a closed book.
