Is it possible to have an intelligent civil conversation about anything on here? Is it possible to say you don't agree with someone without them losing it and attacking you for saying that?

But why? Is it really that hard to not be mean to others? Does it give people physical pain when they are nice, so they insult and attack others instead? It;s bewildering.

It's the Internet. I can say the meanest thing and you'll never show up on my doorstep. Face to face? Folks are much more polite.

I think it has to do with know-it-all syndrome. I know I can suffer from it at times. Essentially, one can't fathom how somebody doesn't know the exact information on why and how they based their opinion on something and then proceeds to talk down to the other because of it and because it makes them feel like they are superior.

I have always posted on here how I would talk to people face to face....except for when they are rude to me. In life, I am civil and polite with a little sarcastic (but not meant to be mean) humor. In life....if someone acted towards me like some on here will act, they would real quickly regret that action. In life....I avoid *******s. On here I have to deal with them daily....and the sad fat is thier numbers are growing.

But.....you can let someone know that you know more about a situation than they do without being a complete asshat. But posters can't seem to do that. Well, I'm on my very last infraction before perma-ban so I've greatly increased my reviewing of post before I click that post button haha. I think some of it has to do with in certain threads people get away with a lot and have the kind of clique deal but then venture somewhere like politics or another area they don't frequent much and then talk down to people like asshats and get surprised when they don't get the same safety blanket.

Life is a big enough drama for me.....this is a place to read and talk about some of my favorite subjects (movies, comics, and superheroes)....I don't want any drama.

I think some of it has to do with in certain threads people get away with a lot and have the kind of clique deal but then venture somewhere like politics or another area they don't frequent much and then talk down to people like asshats and get surprised when they don't get the same safety blanket.

I've always wondered how those who are on near game-ending numbers of infractions think. It must be reasonably obvious at the time of posting which posts have a chance of getting an infraction (probably a minority of posts even of those who eventually get banned who were regular posters).

I guess many don't care about getting banned but if they did I'd expect them to start taking these 'extra-caution on controversial posts counter-measures' from say the 6th or 7th infraction rather than leaving it too late.

While an infraction is "active"....if you get another infraction it causes an automatic probation.

The good news is that your sentence to acid bath, the rack, emasculation, disembowelling, waterboarding, hanging, beheading and being burned at the stake has expired. The bad news is that tomorrow you will still be bathing in acid, getting stretched on the rack, getting emasculated, disembowelled, waterboarded, hung, beheaded and burned at the stake.
