As long as they don't trade in the plot for introducing every love interest in detail. I would prefer they left that for the solo films...Though I believe Pepper Potts is now officially 'in' the film? Apparently she was on set for a few days.

And Hawkeye/Widow is the only romance confirmed, right?

I agree with you. There's just so much other stuff to explore than love interests. Though when they do introduce any love interests, I just hope they don't do it halfheartedly. But I think that Pepper Potts is going to be in the Avengers, most likely.

I don't know about Hawkeye/Widow, but that would be an enjoyable mix. I wishing for this pairing

Just looking back at some older posts and checking into see, but I'm pretty confident now that we'll most likely get to hear mentions/references to what became of both Jane Foster and Peggy through someone else in "The Avengers", with Pepper being the only one having a cameo.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if they managed to throw in a reference to Betty Ross as well.

And granted, while I'm not saying that I want to see more love interests in the future of the Avenger films, I do hope that we get to see the likes of Ms Marvel, Wasp, and even Sharon Carter on the next Avengers film.

I doubt they've completely disregarded TIH considering they made "The Consultant", which in itself ties up the lose end in TIH with Ross and Stark. But at this point I think it would be easier to start over yet again with the Hulk.

Story-wise it would probably be more realistic if the love interests were involved, but like people have said earlier, there wouldn't be enough time, and it wouldn't be that interesting for the main plot. The only characters I see being good/necessary additions to the Avengers, either through cameos or mentions, would be Peggy and Jane considering Cap is dealing with meeting the modern world, and being a fish out of water and Thors reason for returning was his girl. Betty and Pepper I don't see as essential, but like I said would be more realistic to include. For example Banner asking SHIELD to able to see Betty in terms for him helping them. And if Stark and Potts are still together, and Stark has moved to NY, I'd assume she'd be going with him.

True. If anything, the problem with getting back most of these actresses is that due to some of these actresses being big time players in Hollywood, it'd be pretty expensive to get them as it is, and if their roles were to be minor in this film when compared to their respective hero's titular (solo) films, then it'd make sense from a budgetary standpoint to just exclude them from the story I guess.

Personally, i would have loved to have seen a cameo by Betty and Jane. I think that both of them could have been brought in by shield for different reasons due to their expertise in their respective fields, but given that Natalie was pregnant at the bulk of the time that filming was taking place, along with probably being expensive like Liv would have been, they probably opted not to.

***MINOR Spoiler Alert:***

I thought it was interesting that the leaked storybook prominently mentioned General Ross by name as still hounding and wanting the Hulk. I don't think a kids' movie tie-in book would have just offhandedly mentioned that unless Ross IS actually referenced in the film. Whether it's just a verbal reference, or a physical cameo....I dunno. But it gives me hope that they're not going to just completely pretend TIH never happened.

I found it interesting that Tony still calls himself a "playboy". Wouldn't he omit that part from his resumé if he were going steady with Pepper? Or are they having an open relationship?

I agree with those that say - due to time constraints - at most Betty, Jane, and perhaps Peggy (i.e. what happened to her, etc...) should get mentions, but nothing more. Any resolution regarding them should be left to the solo films where the time can be properly devoted. Avengers is going to be too packed as it is given the size of the cast already that anything more would be a disservice to what those relationships deserve. (if that makes sense)

With Thor and Jane, for example, along the lines of what someone else said in this thread (I think - forgive me, I only skimmed it), his mentality he's going to want to keep Jane safe which in this case means dealing with his brother first (especially given the 'threat' Loki made at the end of Thor regarding Jane, how much of that threat was just wanting to push Thor's buttons and how much of it was a genuine threat to 'pay her a visit'? I doubt he'll take that chance).

Anywho, just my opinion.

If they did Jane Foster as the Paramedic, I wouldn't mind seeing her briefly since it's an invasion with untold casualties. But, frankly, I am only interested in Peggy Carter/Cap. It should be saved for the start up of the 2nd wave of solo films.

Referencing Sharon 'Agent 13' Carter though, I would not be opposed of. The Avengers can do so much in terms of references and cameos, it will be a treat to get anything (that we haven't seen that is)
