Is there a thread for this already? I've searched and nothing pop up.

HBO's upcoming show is created by David Milch (who created Deadwood and co-created NYPD Blue) and is called "Luck", the series takes place in the world of horse racing, following the owners, gamblers, jockeys and industry players. The series is reportedly aiming for a launch in January. Michael Mann is the executive producer and he will direct the pilot episode.

The show stars to name a few, Dustin Hoffman, Nick Nolte, Kevin Dunn and the latest to join the cast, Michael Gambon.

It focus on a area where not much tv series cover and it has a good cast to it so I'm looking forward to it.

In Production Featurette

Looks great, I'm eager to see more from this.

I don't really find horse racing exciting but I'll be damned this featurette hasn't got me excited for this already. Plus it doesn't hurt that it has an impressive cast and David Milch involved.

This article tells about the struggle between Milch and Mann.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/michael-mann-david-milch-split-181092

After what an HBO source describes as "serious" discussions, Milch has the final word on scripts, but Mann decides everything else, from casting to cutting to music. Clearly that is not a situation to which Milch, the Emmy-winning writer-producer of NYPD Blue and Deadwood, has lately been accustomed.

But Mann and Milch, in a joint statement to THR, say they are happy with the working arrangement: "We both have the highest admiration for each other's work. After the pilot was finished and both of us liked what we did, we decided -- as two men who have been around for a number of years -- we ought to be smart enough to figure out a mechanism that would enable us to work together to our and the series' benefit. And we did."

But the duo acknowledges the split responsibilities.

"Like any good partnership, we collaborate with each other frequently on story, editing, etc.," they say. "But ultimately, the writing has to be David's domain with final decision-making, just as the filmmaking is Michael's."

Though at this point the ninth episode is still in works. I just hope that Mann and Milch finds a good way of collaboration for future episodes.

The article also says that it's possible that the show won't premiere until next year and that it has only nine episodes since Milch deliver the scripts in his own pace.

This show does look rather awesome.

The debut is next year?! Oh well, I'm hope everything works out between Milch and Mann, as this show could be something special with them working together.

The premise didn't interest me but the featurette grabbed my attention.

At least it's good to know that it's finally going to premiere next year in January, a whole year after its intended debut, I'm excited.

Luck's first episode will have a head start before its series premiere with it airing after the season finale of Boardwalk Empire which is on December 11th. HBO still have plans for it to start airing in January but no date has been annouced yet.

I'm super excited for this, so I'm really glad that the season premiere will start earlier than expected. But, I'm bummed out to hear that the series will only have nine episode for its first season.

Bump. Just a reminder that the early preview of the first episode will air directly after the season finale of Boardwalk Empire later today.

Just saw the pilot and it must have been one of the best pilots I've ever seen. It took me a while to get into it but after that, I was throughly engaged. The world Milch and Mann had created is a fascinating place and the people that fills it are very interesting. Mann's direction was fantastic and he made horse racing to an exciting spectacle for me. But if I had to pick out a minor flaw in the pilot, it's that I wish Hoffman appear in more scenes but when he does appear, he completely dominates it. The pairing of Milch and Mann is a match made in heaven and I'm already eager to spend more time with the series.

Also, I loved the intro because it uses a song by Massive Attack.

It's definitely a fascinating world but there's a lot to digest from the pilot and you just delve into the characters' lives directly without any proper introduction but that's just Milch's way but slowly and steady we get the hangs of things and the connection the characters has to each other. It's nice to see some veterans in this like Hoffman and Nolte and really that alone is enough for me to tune in the show. I like what I was seeing and the potential is there for the show to grow even more and with the caliber of those in front and behind the camera I don't see why it wouldn't.

I watched the pilot and enjoyed it.

Slight concern at my own complete lack of interest in horse racing. But hey, I'm here for Hoffman and Milch.

This is absolutely great news. I've only seen the pilot but I can tell that this will be another excellent addition to HBO's line up. Furthermore, showing confidence early in the series helps gathering audiences.

Hearing that HBO has cancelled the show...rather than suspend it....

I'm glad, tbh. I LOVE David Milch and this cast, but I hate the world of horse racing in general, so I had a hard time watching this one. And this negligence toward the animals on set is unacceptable. Don't make a horse show if you can't properly take care of the horses.

Well, that is a shame as I was enjoying the show. But on the another hand, it was tragic that three horses died, although some part of me wonder if HBO would have cancel the show if the ratings were better. Anyway, I feel bad for Milch, he now has three TV-shows that have been canceled.

Oh, I'm sure they wouldn't have. I would imagine this was a case of them looking at the controversy, looking at the ratings, and deciding it wasn't worth the money/effort to salvage the situation.
