Action-Adventure Mad Max: Furiosa Spinoff

I dont really view Furiosa as a Mad Max movie. It's a prequel go Fury Road, yes. But it's still its own thing to me. But I am stoked for it. Amazing trailer and looks more like the kind of movie we need right now in this era of lazy blockbusters.

I saw some rankings for the Mad Max series, and if I were to rank them:

Road Warrior
Fury Road
Mad Max
Beyond Thunderdome

There is a gap in quality between RW/FR and MM/BT for me though. I like MM and BT, but they're nowhere near RW or FR quality

I would argue that Fury Road is something else entirely as well from those three first movies. Fury Road is sort of a soft reboot in which they took the original concept, polished it and elevated it. Max is the only thing that connects these films and even in FR he’s portrayed by someone else entirely with totally different supporting characters which makes it even more of its own thing.

Furiosa as a prequel is a direct link to FR and serves to branch out that newly established world. In many ways Furiosa is the first film of this reinvigorated franchise, it has/will have many recognizable characters from FR which will enrich and connect this new world even more. But even Furiosa has a different angle to it with a different interpretation of the main character… Then again even Max is someone else nowadays so… it is what it is. Better to focus on enjoying the journey and not get stuck on the details of this already confusing/convoluted but awesome post apocalyptic world.

My ranking would be:
1. Fury Road
2. Road Warrior
3. Mad Max
4. Beyond Thunderdome

I also think that Furiosa looks like a blend between the Road Warrior and Fury Road.

Is that Christopher Heyerdahl as Smeg?

Nop. It’s someone called David Collins. Apparently he’s an Australian comedian. I guess he adds some sort of levity/humor as a part of the crew.

Furiosa Is ‘David Lean, But With Motorbikes Instead Of Camels’ Says New Immortan Joe, Lachy Hulme – Exclusive

You’ve got to live up to a name like Immortan Joe. And the villain in Mad Max: Fury Road did exactly that, cutting a mercurial, mesmerising, menacing figure in the Wasteland, ruling his War Boys with an iron fist, and barking out put-downs like “Mediocre!” with relish. Now, get ready to ride eternal, shiny and chrome, once more – Immortan Joe is back in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, ready to unleash more vehicular chaos. But until now, it’s been unknown who exactly would be stepping into the plastic-abs bodysuit and fearsome breathing mask this time around – the legendary Hugh Keays-Byrne, who played the role in Fury Road, passed away in 2020.
Empire can confirm that the role in Furiosa will be played by Lachy Hulme – a firm friend of filmmaker George Miller who now pulls double-duty in the prequel. Hulme was first cast as Rizzdale Pell, one of the gang members affiliated with Chris Hemsworth’s warlord Dementus. And while he was preparing to get into the driving seat, he quizzed Miller on the plans for Immortan Joe. “He said, ‘I’ll probably just get a body double,’” Hulme tells Empire. “I said, ‘Well, somebody needs to step up for Hugh. Someone needs to honour this great man. I can do it. I can do the voice. And it’s all in the eyes.’” Hulme’s casting as Immortan Joe came once filming had already begun – on top of his Rizzdale Pell duties. “He said, ‘Do you want to do it?’ I said, ‘What took you so long? You’ve finally figured out that this movie ain’t gonna make dollar one until you’ve got double Lachy Hulme in it!’”

Stepping into the shoes of Immortan Joe on Furiosa brought even more unhinged action for Hulme to throw himself into. The film, he says, is “David Lean, but with motorbikes instead of camels. When you see 4,000 custom-made motorbikes come over a hill, you **** your pants.” Sounds like it’s going to be anything but mediocre.

I love that Lachy Hulme seems to have a great deal of respect for Hugh Keays-Byrne's portrayal of Immortan Joe and I hope he has a sizable role here.

I'm sure I'm not the only one with the opinion that Immortan Joe is one of the greatest cinematic villains of the past decade, maybe even a contender for the greatest villain not based on a previous IP character and I'm happy that we'll be seeing more of him. It's a shame that Hugh Keays-Byrne has passed but I think Miller and Hulme will do him justice here.

72 days until release date.
Fury Road final trailer came out 48 days before the film’s release date.

I wonder if we’re getting some more new images and snippets of info from the Empire Magazine coming out tomorrow.
