I mean one thing about having a small indie movie like this that gets put on a bigger pedestal is normies will tear it apart no matter what and you'll hear some of the worst takes imaginable.

It goes back to my question of do you want your favorite movie to be seen by everybody and have all the status and notoriety... but also get all the weak criticisms by everybody or do you want it to be less seen with less recognition but it maintains a cult status?
I might go with the latter just because it makes them more fun to talk about.

I feel like the more people see Anora, which should be soon enough since it starts streaming on Hulu on Monday, whatever rhetoric that Demi Moore was robbed will die down. This is not a Jamie Lee Curtis situation.
Yeah... It's so insulting because most of them aren't even trying to argue Demi was BETTER, because they haven't even seen Anora. Their argument is the Academy should have given the Oscar to her as a pity award because she played a role about aging. It's incredibly offensive to the person they're supposedly defending.

And beyond that, I've said this before but I could understand it more if it was Amy Adams or Glenn Close who have been nominated so many times that you just want the Academy to give them an Oscar at this point. But this was Demi's first nomination. It's not like she's been perpetually snubbed by them.

It’s more that she’s a Hollywood “legend” than anything. When Eddie Murphy or Sylvester Stallone lost, there was the same kind of talk. Awarding their history and longevity in the business. In their cases though, people lumped it into that they burned too many bridges at the height of their fame to ever truly win.

IIRC, Murphy's loss was heavily attributed to the release of Norbit tanking his work at building a "serious reputation" overnight.

If that was true, I feel like they might have given Murphy a pass for being in a bad movie....if he didn't play a horrifyingly racist caricature in the year 2007.

Here we go with this authoritarian bullsh**.

The mayor of Miami Beach is asking the city to end a lease agreement and withdraw financial support from an independent theater that is screening the Oscar-winning documentary “No Other Land.”

Mayor Steven Meiner characterized the film as “a false one-sided propaganda attack on the Jewish people that is not consistent with the values of our City and residents” and has introduced legislation to terminate the O Theater’s lease for the city’s old City Hall building.
