Of course, there's a backlash on twitter over Anora and Mikey winning and most of them didn't see the movie.
Anyone out there saying that Demi or Cynthia were robbed hasn't seen Anora. Each of them were Oscar worthy performances but you could make The Substance without Demi or Wicked without Cynthia and they'd still work (though probably not as well) but but there's no Anora without Mikey.

Best Picture was a bit of a wild card the whole time. I thought that Anora, The Brutalist, Conclave and Dune 2 were all deserving of that title but again, nothing was robbed.

The discourse is always so annoying post Oscars. The term "robbed" should be banned when talking about the Awards.

There are a few occasions where that term is accurate but it's few and far between. I think there's definitely an argument for Jamie Lee Curtis's win being a robbery, whether it was from Stephanie Hsu or Angela Bassett.

Before that you have some of the more infamous ones like Crash winning Best Picture over Brokeback Mountain or Shakespeare in Love winning over Saving Private Ryan. It's definitely happened but people just throw the word around if their favorite doesn't win.

The problem is that people just randomly throw it around, as you say. So let's lay it to rest for a while. Let's teach people there are different sentences that can be used when your favorite star or movie didn't get an Oscar. :tearsofjoy: And that they didn't necessarily get r... lose unfairly.

Next time I say something this stupid, feel free to request a wellness check.
Crash is BAD, but anyone who says its the worst BP winner ever has never seen Gigli

EDIT: I assume you mean Gigi but the idea of Gigli winning Best Picture is hysterical so please keep the typo.
Got Oscars on the brain still, clearly

I feel like the more people see Anora, which should be soon enough since it starts streaming on Hulu on Monday, whatever rhetoric that Demi Moore was robbed will die down. This is not a Jamie Lee Curtis situation.

I mean one thing about having a small indie movie like this that gets put on a bigger pedestal is normies will tear it apart no matter what and you'll hear some of the worst takes imaginable.

It goes back to my question of do you want your favorite movie to be seen by everybody and have all the status and notoriety... but also get all the weak criticisms by everybody or do you want it to be less seen with less recognition but it maintains a cult status?
