Mad Max: Fury Road

The "albino dude" is Hugh Keays-Byrne, the actor who played the baddie Toecutter in the first Mad Max movie (and who Miller cast as Martian Manhunter in the ill-fated JLA movie). Another actor (Richard Norton) said Keays-Byrne was playing the main bad guy in this film. The costume is probably incomplete.

Here's Keays-Byrne in a scene from 'Sleeping Beauty' (2011).

If the storyboard with the 'boobies' is a representation of what we can expect, then we're obviously looking at an R-rated movie.

These look like masks made from skin (human?), but it also could represent genetic mutation or radiation damage.

Immortan looks bloody awesome! Great villain design!

just because there is a girl with visible boobs in some concept art that doesnt mean it will be R rated.

I agree that just because it's in a storyboard doesn't necessarily mean it'll be in the film. What I'm saying is that if that storyboard is filmed as is, displaying something as innocuous as the breasts of a woman, then it's probably going to be R. This isn't one of those 'The Bounty' type situations where nudity gets a pass by the prudish MPAA.

These are pictures of some vehicles from the same leaked set of pics.

That boobie storyboard looks like a virgin sacrifice of some sort. Looks like Max in the lower left, holding some distraught woman back (maybe the mother of the topless girl...?), and the crowd is demanding at least one of the girls on the platform as a sacrifice.

post converted 3d yet still filmed with digital cameras. dont buy that the rigs are not strong enough.

Gordon Hayden from radio show "We Love Movies" on station 103.8, which I think may be a Dublin station, just tweeted he'll be chatting with George Miller about Fury Road on his next show which are every Sunday at 11:45am:
Gordon Hayden ‏@Gordon_Hayden
Great to be back in @spin1038 today putting together this week's We Love Movies. Besides our Total Recall interviews...

..we will be speaking to director George Miller about his reboot of the Mad Max series, Mad Max: Fury Road.

You can listen to the station live via their site here:

Any chance somebody might be able to catch this and do a transcript or record it? Different timezones might mean I'll miss it. :(

apparently the interview was recorded LAST YEAR, and has no new info, lame!

Depends on the budget.
In some cases studios can afford to take risks knowing that other movies can compensate potential losses.
WB spend 130 million on Watchmen. That same year they got Harry Potter which made 900 million WW.
I don't see why something like Mad Max should cost more then 100 million per movie

post converted 3D will be very expensive with mad max.

i hope it is R rated. its again time for hollywood to take a risk.

Not really.
Unless you're Cameron who has spend around 20 million or so and over a year converting Titanic.

Shooting a movie native raises the cost to 15-30 million whereas converting a movie is something like 5 million or so.

it will be hard to track the ground from the way the location looks. it will be a pain in the ass to rotoscope dust and convert i as a 3d plane and then project in 3d space. it will be hard in general to rotoscope all the vehicles and then model proxy models to give the image 3D space. since all the vehicles have very complex shapes.

i agree that they will not spend as much money as Jackson,Lucas,Cameron. but it will be more expensive then other post converted movies because of the complexity IMO.

I've heard the budget is closer to $200 million. Factoring in the cost of delays, maybe even more. This is a huge film. Even Mel said this recently.

The budget was nuts. It was crazy. I certainly hope they've become more realistic about it.

And that's referencing the 2003 version. Miller has admitted that this new film has grown even larger.

Post converting to 3D will be expensive. Miller is a self-professed perfectionist. He's admitted before that this costs him time and money. Also, Miller might be filming Fury Road at 48fps, which could double the cost of post conversion. As Taffy Lewis said earlier, a cameraman on the film tweeted this picture of an on-set accident that almost killed him...

...and zooming in on his camera, you can see that it's set to record at 48fps.

Not exactly proof, but it is evidence.

The 48 Fps will only e a factor if The Hobbit's 48 goes well (which is playing 24 in 2D, 48 in 3D)

Haven't followed this thread very closely. have there been any pics of Max released yet?

No sadly. For a film that's filming out in the open, we haven't even seen Hardy yet.

So Marco Beltrami is the composer for Fury Road. He mentions it in the Sept 6 entry on his website here.

http://marco-beltrami.com/

Is he any good? Not good? I'm not really familiar with his work.

He was pants early on, but he's really grown the past 8 years. I have faith.

Looking around, it doesn't appear Marco Beltrami gets high marks for his action movies.

At the 1:08:00 mark of this podcast of a film score composers round table, Marco is asked what score he's most proud of, and he says his upcoming score for Mad Max. Hoping for the best.

In other news, I found a rare picture of Charlize Theron at a fundraiser in Namibia this past weekend.
