MAG: Massive Action Game

I just found out this ame is coming out this year. For some reason I thought it was a 2010 title

I think it'll slip back to 2010 personally, and I hope it does. I want the rest of the exclusive line up this year to read Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank and Demon's Souls, leaving MAG, God of War 3, Heavy Rain, Gran Turismo 5, and White Knight Chronicles for next year.

They should push it back to atleast January because i won't have enough money to buy all these games.

Yeah, the exclusive PS3 line up is more than enough to keep my wallet busy, let alone Modern Warfare 2, and Operation Flashpoint etc.

Still I'm used to saving for October-November now that I've been a gamer for a couple of years.

Your wish may have been granted.

The thinning Fall 2009 release list looks like it's getting one release thinner today, as online retailers are pointing to a delay for MAG, Zipper Interactive's massive action game for the PlayStation 3, which is now aiming for January 2010. Both GameFly and GameStop are listing the title for release during the month of January 2010. Those retailers were expecting MAG on November 24 of this year as of a week ago. When the PlayStation 3 game was being shown at E3, Sony Computer Entertainment America pegged MAG's release date more vaguely, as a "Fall 2009" title.
Earlier this year, Sony named MAG, along with God of War III, as one of the PS3 titles that would ship during its fiscal 2009, a window that extends to March of 2010.
While Sony hadn't yet applied a firm release date to the online shooter, it's looking less likely that the game will make that Fall window, if retailer listings are correct.
We've contacted SCEA to get confirmation on MAG's slip, but have not yet heard back.

Update: A Sony Computer Entertainment spokesperson said "We haven't made any announcements in regards to the launch date, the retailers are just speculating."

Well, there you go.

OVERVIEW

The year is 2025. The optimism and harmony of the 2010s were completely eradicated by 2020. A global crisis loomed. Food shortages sparked riots, currencies plummeted, fuel reserves dwindled, and oil-producing nations began to ration what remained. It is a dark future. Governments earmarked money for humanitarian efforts, overseas security, and intelligence services which, over time, found its way the coffers of a small group of Private Military Companies (PMCs). These three private armies (Valor, Raven, and S.V.E.R.) then began to recruit aggressively. Soldiers without a country, the contractors fight wars that never happened. This is the nature of the Shadow War.

From the award-winning developer, Zipper Interactive, comes the next evolution in gaming – MAG. A first-person, online-only shooter, MAG lets you experience battles with up to 256 real people across a global battlefield. Players join one of three PMCs fighting each other in a shadow war and can either become skilled operatives or rank up to eventually command their private army to victory. Featuring unprecedented online action of a scale never before devised with player controlled strategic assets such as calling in air strikes, mortar barrages and parachute insertions; the persistent Shadow War in MAG keeps players coming back for more.

Utilizing a sophisticated ranking system and chain of command model, MAG manages the large number of players by breaking them down into squads of eight players. Players climb their way up the chain of command to take control of their 8-person squad, then 32-person platoon, and ultimately a 128-person army.

KEY FEATURES

  • Unprecedented Action – For the first time ever, fight 256 real player battles in hi-def online combat for contracts around the world.
  • Command Structure – Rise through the chain of command, earning the right to lead an eight-man squad, 32-man platoon, and even command a full 128-man army.
  • Persistent Shadow War – Each battle victory or loss contributes to your PMCs world standing, moving them on the offensive or pulling them back to the defensive.
  • Choose an army – Three distinct PMCs from which to choose from, each with their own storied history, personality, and style.
  • Customization – Customize your character and begin to pursue a wide variety of combat specialties. Become an elite fighter or a general of an army.

Check your e-mails, because Beta Surveys were just sent. Notice it's a survey, so not everyone who fills them out will be accepted in the Beta. There is no announced date on when the Beta will start as well.
