In another forum I frequent, they were discussing Captain America's famous swansong, and it got onto someone mentioning an X-Men comic series called Apocalypse Future. Apparently in this, Wolverine & Jean are a couple with the former without an arm, Cyclops is a villain, and to the piece de resistance.. Magneto leads the X-Men! Is this true? Would you be as kind to tell me how it all unfolds please? And not to mention what you think of it.

And Magneto has actually led the X-Men before that, during the time he was a bit of a good guy, during the Claremont run.

He didnt lead the X-men. He was made headmaster of the school and was in charge of the New Mutants, but Storm remained leader of the X-men. Magneto was there to help out and fought alongside them but she called the shots in battle and how the team ran

He was still pretty much the boss of the team in the same way Xavier used to be. When Havok returned to the team, he was referred to as co-leading with Storm, and he was the one that arranged the deal with the Hellfire Club. He wasn't the leader in the strictest sense, that much is true.

Actually, a member of the Hellfire Club (I think Shaw) first proposed an alliance to Storm after a combined group of X-Men & Hellfirers had fought off an attack by Nimrod. In several issues of New Mutants Magneto was shown as having doubts about the idea, until Ororo persuaded him that they should do it. The 2 of them joined up together, supposedly sharing the position of White King. Although after that, Magneto was the only one shown interacting with the HC.

And in spite of what was said in that issue where Havok joined the team, I don't think Magneto was even as much of a boss as Xavier. He never gave the X-Men orders or sent them out on missions.
