Make-Up Artist Magazine posted this new article from their July/August issue which has got some new pics incl a pic of the alternate Magneto speech scene (with beard).

Its available in pdf which i converted to jpeg format.(The pdf picture quality is better than jpeg)

Something like that... It was supposed to show he had been a fugitive in hiding...

However, it's better without the beard. Magneto's a classy mutant with regal purple etc, he'd never let himself get into that state...

Why did Magneto has a beard in the alt version?

It's a deleted scene.. I liked the idea of it:

The scene is supposed to be Pyro informing Magneto that a cure has been invented. Magneto has a beard for continuity reasons... after his escaping in X2 he's been in hiding (he wasn't a [wanted] criminal until Liberty Island, so now he's an escaped criminal, hence the big interest in capturing him by Beast, the Prez, and Trask). Also, Magneto at that time gives his first warning not to mass produce the cure, or the brotherhood will act (his tv broadcast after Pyro's attack is supposed to be his second broadcast, this deleted scene being the first).

According to Ratner, it was cut because FOX thought Magneto had facial hair too similar to Bin Laden's, and we all know how conservative FOX is...

I'm assuming the scene chronologically takes place before Mystique's X3 intro, but it's more than possible that Magneto was onto the cure from the beginning, and that the scene is Mags' rebuttle to Worthington Sr.'s TV broadcast.

It's going to be on the dvd so i think we'll be more certain where it would have fitted in to the movie then.

Maybe they left it out because people would think it was Gandalf

^^PF, at the time (month and half ago) the magazine article was not posted on their website as you can see from the replies posted then. It was just added recently.
