Man of Tomorrow Casting Thread

I really don’t think you cap this whole thing off with the Death of Superman. Maybe in the next to last and then you end on his return, but even that I’m not sure about.

I think I might be in favor of side-stepping that whole thing altogether.

A proper Death of Superman needs to be done in live action. I can’t forgive WB for combining Wonder Woman’s introduction, Batman and Superman’s first meeting, Death of Superman and the Dark Knight Returns all in one movie. I think they forced Zack into doing this and ruined his plan. If the DCU lasts for 10+ years, it would be a great way to end Superman’s story.

Just finished watching the Superman animated series episode Ghost in the machine. Wow!!!!! So many things you can do with Brainiac and Lex together. Not to nick pick but the Engineer was basically Mercy Graves in Superman. That is kind of disappointing because both are compelling characters to me.

Yeah, I’d rather not see Doomsday again. Plus I feel like Superman has died enough in comics that if you wanted to kill him and bring him back, you could probably find a more interesting way to do it. Like use All-Star’s ending and then find a way to bring him back after that. Granted, doing so undercuts the impact of that ending, but Superman has to come back, come on.

Gunn said if you die in his DCU you’re not coming back. I am not talking about Doomsday for the second movie but to end the saga in 2035 it would be epic. Who says Superman has to die………

Sophie would crush Donna Troy too. Or Barbara Gordon.

Or anything honestly.

Crossing my fingers we sidestep Death of Superman all together
If they’re going to do that type story, they should just adapt “Hereafter” from the Justice League animated series, where we see the process of everyone reacting to and grieving his “death”, except you find out in the second of the two episodes he didn’t die but was transported to the far, far future where he finds an ally in a weathered, reformed Vandal Savage, who helps Superman find a way to get back to his time.

You get the actual weight and emotion “The Death of Superman” was trying to achieve without resorting to cheaply killing him off and other gimmicks to increase sales.

That's my favorite Justice League double-episode.

I really need to watch all those JL episodes. I’ve been catching up on the Superman animated series from the 90s and while it’s for kids and not quite as prestige as BTAS (because nothing is lol), it’s still very good and I hope that Gunn takes cues from it with characters like Brainy, Metallo and Parasite.

STAS is my favorite adaptation of Superman ever. I especially love their Lex, Brainiac, and Toyman. And Dana Delaney is still the voice I hear for Lois when I read the comics.

Yeah the voice cast is pretty iconic. I heard that Clancy Brown initially auditioned for Superman and was annoyed that they offered him Luthor but I’ve heard so many people refer to him as the definitive version of the character. He’s awesome.

Don't forget Scarecrow! They should go the Darth Vader route with him too. Cast a really tall, lanky, imposing guy in the suit and then get someone with a really creepy voice for the V.O. We don't really need to see his face.

The only TNBA redesign Batfans **** with.

If the next film features both Superman and Supergirl as the leads, I wouldn't mind getting a scene that matches the emotional beat at this one.

Watching Superman help Supergirl process some of her repressed grief would make for compelling drama.

Given Alan Ritchson’s comments about not playing Batman but likely having a role in the DCU, I’ll reiterate that he’s make a great Metallo. I’d prefer Brainiac be the sole villain for this movie and they save Metallo for a third or fourth film where Lex has access to Brainiac’s tech, but it could also work with Brainy invading earth in this movie and Metallo could be more of the physical threat.

Some other ideas for Corben:

Beau Knapp
Tom Hopper
Sope Dirisu
Joe Cole
Jack Lowden
Philip Winchester

Speaking of Doomsday, I could see a proper Death of Superman movie could be done to end the Superman saga and would actually bring tears to peoples eyes. Maybe Ultraman could devolve into Doomsday.
"Death of Superman" is a weak story with a nothing villain.

I really like Geoff Johns’ depiction of Metallo on Secret Origin as “toxic masculinity personified”, I would really like something inspired by that.

Yeah, that version of Metallo is pretty much perfect.

Alan would be a excellent Midnighter.

Yeah I feel like having Superman and Batman archetypes in the DCU who aren’t Superman and Batman might feel a little unnecessary this early on. Honestly I don’t think that Authority movie is even happening. The Engineer was fine as a side villain in Superman but I haven’t heard much chatter about seeing more of her at this point. Let’s move on to more interesting characters.

Midnighter is much more like Taskmaster in Marvel than Batman.

I guess I don’t see the connection of those two to Bats/Supes.

Jenny Sparks, Midnighter, Jack Hawksmoor, the Doctor, Apollo, ect would be great to see in live action but honestly I don’t want a million characters in the DCU. I like the way it’s going.

It seems Gunn originally envisioned The Authority as a contrast to "traditional" superheroes like Batman and Superman. I think the Authority fit better coming much later, after we get more Superman in this universe and characters like Batman and Wonder Woman. Let us see the "traditional" heroes first before we get heroes that are there to deconstruct them.
