Man of Tomorrow Casting Thread

I know we’re all in love with the idea of Adria as Wondy but how about another Andor alum, Varada Sethu, as Zatanna? She’s also been on Doctor Who. Fantasic talent with a lot of intensity.

How about a Superman vs Authority movie. Not necessarily a Superman 2 movie but how Gunn is describing his next project, I could see this as the case. The Engineer seems to hate Supes as much as Lex. Bring in Jenny Sparks, Midnighter, and Apollo to join the Engineer that could be an intriguing and original movie. Personally I would love to see Ms. Sparks and Midnighter on the big screen.

Face it, Zod has been done too many times. I like Zod as a villain but it feels like it can't happen. Audiences will get bored with it. Darkseid should be saved for the last or a Justice League trilogy. Preferably in a Superman movie first.

If many Superman movies are made in the DCU, then maybe they could do Zod. Zod is a great villain when done right. One thing I miss about Zod is the British accent, the menacing and his famous catchphrase. Cooler than Michael Shannon's Zod if you ask me.

I'll admit, Zod in the theatrical cut of Superman II was a little dull, but in the Donner cut, he seemed a little better, and was given a little more subtext. Ultimately in the Donner version, I thought General Zod's motives were a little more clear. He didn't just want to rule. He wanted revenge. In the Lester version, Zod just seems a little flat by comparison. Almost cartoonish. A little bit ridiculous. He's evil, wants to rule, blah blah blah, that was it basically. Why was he evil though? Donner's version of Zod seemed slightly better. Speaking of which, I think I need to give that a re-watch.

I think Callum Blue's Zod in Smallville had a little more grounding. What was interesting to me in this version was how Zod actually destroyed Krypton. I don't remember how he did it, but dang. On the other hand, I find that a little extreme and hard to believe Zod would go out of his way to destroy his entire planet. Ultimately though, I think this was one of the best takes on Zod. Inspired by Terence Stamp's version, but it was a little more grounded. I would like to see a similar Zod in a Superman movie if he were to be used again.

Alien world invasions have become cliche, and you can only do so many alien invasions in films, especially superhero movies without it feeling redundant. But let's see how Fantastic Four does, because there is yet another alien invasion plot going to occur. Judging by the trailers, it looks to me like the alien threat will happen fairly early in the movie. Perhaps it will be something new.

But back to Superman...this time it was Lex Luthor splitting the Earth rather than another alien threat. I can't see Zod being used again anytime soon. Alien invasions just feel redundant by this point. I think after several films and a few years, maybe it will feel fresh again eventually. I feel like it has to happen at some point, after all, who doesn't want to see Darkseid? Instead of another 'end of the world' plot, a Lexiac takeover of Metropolis, or the world would be exciting.

While I don't want Luthor being the main villain, I still think Luthor should have some sort of role. Maybe Luthor will get out of prison after two years based on good behavior, but I still find that unrealistic especially after what he did. I don't know how Luthor could really convince the world to trust him again. I think there's no way he could be trusted again after that. Ironically, in real life, it's amazing to me that people still voted for...you-know-who. But it's not like he ever got so far to splitting the world...okay I'll stop right there. But I mean...when do people learn to finally object?

I think Luthor should go on a revenge mission on Superman. From this point, I would expect Lex to dedicate the rest of his life to getting revenge on Superman and blaming him for ruining his reputation. Luthor should begin recruiting what should be an Injustice Gang or Legion of Doom. Honestly speaking though, I didn't want that happening too soon. I wanted Luthor to remain in control at Luthorcorp for a while, but also maintaining some power over Superman. I would like to see Luthor in the prometheus suit at some point.

In Lois & Clark, while it was a TV series, Superman wasn't able to take down Lex that easily which was a good thing.

I can take or leave Mongul but I REALLY want Brainiac. I would love the Eradicator too, either as a villain or an anti-hero (or both).

IF they do use Brainiac, he needs to have the ridiculously awesome city sized skull ship.

I also hope he has several different forms, one of which is the creepy robotic one from the 80s who flies that ship. I had that Super Powers action figure as a kid. So cool. I want his primary form to be the green and black Cenobite style version but the robot Brainy is so cool too.

Why not both Mongul AND Brainiac. Both would want the last Kryptonians for different reasons.
Maybe too chockers. We want them to do justice with the characters or it’ll just end up like the last justice league movie

I wouldn’t include Superboy yet but I think you could do something with Superman digging into Krypton’s history and finding out that Brainiac was originally built by Jor and Lara and he began influencing them and convincing them that they needed to colonize other planets to preserve Krypton’s history. Maybe Superman learns from Kara that is why her family ultimately left Krypton; perhaps they were concerned over the wider implications and were looking for ways to turn things around, but then the planet got destroyed and it all went to hell. There are plenty of things you could do with it that don’t undo anything we’ve seen so far and can incorporate the one big bad everyone wants o finally see.

If this sequel is a Super team up for Superman and Supergirl (plus some proto JL folks) wonder what they will call it. Maybe we’ll find out this weekend!

Superman & Supergirl
Super Family
Super Friends
Superman & the Justice League
Super Powers
Superman & the Hall of Justice
Superman Brainiac
Superman Krypton & Earth

If Gunn's next film is a Superman & Supergirl team up, I wonder when it would get announced? I'm guessing perhaps closer to Supergirl's release just in order to give that a small boost at the box office?

Supergirl, Clayface, Wonder Woman, Teen Titans, Sgt. Rock, Batman: Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing -- all very exciting but DC is missing the mark if they don't announce Superman's return sooner than later. Ride the wave of the good press.

Maybe an announcement at the end of the Summer of Superman, plus a Supergirl teaser trailer

I'm starting to think that the follow up is going to be a Justice Gang movie.

I originally wanted a Supergirl sequel to be Supergirl and the Legion of Superheroes but maybe you can mash that story together with Superman & Braniac.

So it'd be Superman and the Legion of Superheroes with the Legion traveling to the present from the far future to help stop the original Brainiac from destroying/shrinking Earth. At the end, Kara decides to leave with Brainiac-5 & the Legion, and Superman is inspired to start the Justice League by the heroes of the future. Throw in a post-credit with WW and/or Batman for a classic scene of the three meeting in the Batcave to make the roster... thus leading us to Justice League: Crisis or Justice League: Legion of Doom

Maybe Lanterns sets up the Qward (and the Anti-Matter Universe) or the Centre (like New Frontier) or maybe even some Final Crisis New Gods shenanigans to move us towards a JL-level event.

That all sounds really cool and ambitious. And it would feel really different from a lot of other superhero crossover stuff we’ve seen.

I guess they could bring
Superman’s clone
back instead of Superboy if they wanted to do a Reign of the Supermen / Superfamily

They may or may not announce a superman sequel soon.
I probably would sooner rather than later. Strike while the iron is hot.
Even tease who the big bad is.
Don't keep it secret if it's Brainiac either. People are dying to see him. Teasing that he's coming will only build anticipation.

All that said, they may be waiting to see how supergirl does first before announcing anything super related, so we may be in for a LONG wait.

Brainiac: Richard E. Grant

Prof. Emil Hamilton: Mark Hamill

Batman/Bruce Wayne: Will Poulter

Jax-Ur: Jackson Harper

Livewire: Keke Palmer

Lana Lang: Genesis Rodriguez

Parasite: Joel McHale

Sam Lane: Bruce Greenwood

King Faraday: Anson Mount

I'm starting to think that the follow up is going to be a Justice Gang movie.
Justice Gang are side characters so they will be spread out across television and movie landscapes. Mister Terrific in the Waller series leading up to Checkmate is a must for HBO max following the Lanterns series. Guy will have a roles in Peacemaker and Lanterns. Hawkgirl is probably the wild card. I don’t know where to put her.

The Engineer is still out there and I bet Gunn has plans for Angela Spica.
