Man of Tomorrow Casting Thread

Yooooo Metallo is not a lame character! But he’s most likely a one-off villain in a movie and Fassbender is an actor you get some longevity out of.
I cannot think of a single Metallo story I’ve read where he isn’t manipulated by someone.
Maybe I’m forgetting something

Also, I think that he works best when he looks like the T-800 skeleton

I can't speak on his comic appearances, but I did like the episodes of Supes TAS that he was in.

Thought he looked cool lol.

Yeah I think the AU and Secret Origin versions of Metallo are pretty fantastic. The latter is more fleshed out and more adult, which would make for a (somewhat) sympathetic villain while also just being an all around brutal creep, especially with his connections to Lois and Sam Lane. It cuts a little close to that annoying Talbot character from the Ang Lee Hulk movie but way better and obviously a live action version could be very cool visually.

As for an actor to play him, along with Dickinson, I could also see Alan Ritchson in the role. I would probably prefer to save him for Captain Atom but for Metallo you need a big, imposing, cocky military alpha male type.

I also hope we get to see Parasite as a huge, hulking purple monster. He would be a good first act villain, maybe in MoT, and perhaps he can ultimately team up with Superman and help fight Brainiac in the end like he did in House of Brainiac.

Metallo would be used like Ultraman. A physical threat to Superman, but this one has a tragedy element.

Ben Foster was always my pick for Metallo. He could play a tragic villain perfectly. He’s getting a little old for it now. Such an underrated actor. I’d love him to get a chance to play a DC villain.

Haven’t seen Ben in a while but he’s always been a solid actor. Not quite how I picture the more military version of the Corben but he could pull it off. He could also do the criminal/crooked journalist version in his sleep.

Throwing Gustaf Skarsgard into the mix for Brainiac. His brothers have had their moment, let’s show a larger audience what tall, bald and handsome here can do…

I like James Badge Dale for Metallo—either military or mercenary, I think he works with both interpretations

But, honestly, after reading Superman ‘78, I really like the idea of a Soviet Metallo— when Clark first arrived on earth, a fragment of Kryptonite simultaneously landed on a farm in Russia. 30 years later, Soviets acquire a robotic exosuit from the black market (revealed to be a Luthor design) and use the Kryptonite as its power source.

Just the setup lends itself to an interesting parallel between the two characters I haven’t previously seen

Chris Messina for Metallo, mainly because he looks like the Superman TAS version (he's also a very good actor).

John Corben /Metallo: James Norton

Gen. Sam Lane: Josh Brolin

Rudy Jones/Parasite: Kevin Durand

Dr. Emmett Vale: Michael McElhatton

Prof. Emil Hamilton: Eric Bogosian

Fassbender is one of those actors that would fit in for several roles.
He could play Brainiac, but he would also be great as....
Metallo,
Joker,
And the brave and the bold Batman.
He would have made a great Lex also.

I can honestly see him as any of those characters. They aren't many actors I can say that about.

I don’t really get Fassy as Metallo. I think he could do it obviously but I feel he’s be a much better fit for Brainiac. Even if Brainy only appears in one movie (but I’m guessing he would appear in multiple films), Fassbender feels like a great fit. I think you go younger for Metallo.

Fassbender’s David is basically just Brainiac
He’d be great.

I think younger makes sense for Metallo too. Hes a pretty tragic character who is manipulated by Lex, so I’m thinking a younger impressionable soldier in his 20s or 30s. He’s pretty much a blank slate. And I agree that Terminator style Metallo is the best.

Yeah if they go with the military version of Metallo (or the military contractor version from the AU) an actor in his late 20s/early 30s would be ideal. If they also work in the angle of Sam Lane trying to pass Lois off on to him too, that could provide some interesting conflict for her as well. I’m generally not a fan of the hero and villain fighting over the same love interest but in Corben’s case, I think it adds to his creep factor and keeps him from being too sympathetic, while also providing Lois with a good character arc where she can push back against her dad’s toxic alpha male BS.

That said, I don’t want to see any of this in MoT. I want the villain of this movie to be Brainiac and his invasion should be what everyone is focused on. But I think that could carry easily into a more earth-centric third film where Lex and Lane use some of the tech they stole from Brainy in the previous film to create ultimate Metallo.

Jude Law would be a great Brainiac. Crazy how his name circled Superman productions for years but he never ended up in one. I remember hearing him rumored for Superman, Zod and maybe Lex at one point? I wish he hadn’t been in Captain Marvel (I love that movie but his role was kinda meh) because I worry that it would keep him from showing up in a DC project. Maybe not though.

Check out The Order to see him face off against Nicholas Hoult.

Bored today so I’m brainstorming more casting ideas.

Brainiac: Emma Darcy

L-Ron (voice): Patton Oswalt

Martian Manhunter: William Jackson Harper

John Henry Irons/Steel: Aldis Hodge (screw it, Black Adam never happened)

Maxima: EVAN RACHEL WOOD

Lena Luthor: Kaitlyn Dever

Morgan Edge: Michael Stuhlbarg

Maggie Sawyer: Gillian Anderson

Dan Turpin: Bobby Cannavale

John Corben: Taron Egerton

Rudy Jones: John Carroll Lynch

Ehhh… 20 years ago, maybe. But he’ll be 67 when they’re shooting this thing.

Yeah I mean Brainiac could be any age really depending on how they present him but I would expect a younger actor in the role, especially if they make him a physical threat.
