Man shot in the head while handcuffed in back of a police car

If there weren't witnesses that say the police were not near the car when the gun went off, then I would be right there with you.

Exactly.
All of the conspiracy theories that I have heard have been disproven.

That said, the police failed to find the gun during the searches and could very likely lose a civil suit as a result.

Yep. They should definitely be held accountable for not searching him properly.

I still think there was some kind of foul play involved. They searched him twice, can find a bag of weed but a handgun escapes them?

It can happen.
I think I read that the weed was in his pocket, so thats an easy one. If the gun was placed just right and they didnt do a good, thorough search, then it could happen.

So, if there was foul play...what do you think it could have been? What would the scenario be exactly?

Of Course this happaned. See,the Police are dangerous fascists who torture people for no reason other then the fact that the police are straight up sadists.
All police(wo)men ought to be tried for crimes against humanity

I hope this is sarcasm.

They searched him and found the weed. They put him in the back of the squad car without handcuffs. Most 380's are extremely small. So it is plausible that they missed it. He could have taken it out while he was there and tried to to hide it. Remember, it's a stolen gun as well. His name came back with the warrant info. They got him out of the squad car, searched him the second time, and put him back in there handcuffed.

Witnesses then say that cops were away from the car when they heard a pop. One cop looked in the car and asked another to call an ambulance. To me, it doesn't sound like foul play at all.

Well your right aobut 380s being small. I found this

I suppose it's possible if they tossed him in the car before searching him a second time. Why the need to search him twice though? This is such a strange incident.

There are some 380s smaller than that one. Anyone who thinks it cant be hidden doesnt know what they are talking about. The article I linked below says it was a Cobra .380.
Here is a site with some specifics on the gun he used (although width is not listed, which is important in concealing a firearm).

Below is a comparison of small caliber guns (mostly .380s) and it says the gun is only 1" wide.

If I recall correctly, he was searched and placed in the car, then after a records check which revealed an active warrant, he was taken out of the car, told about the reasons that he would be arrested, searched and cuffed.

Typically the first search or terry frisk is a little less intrusive as the person is often not under arrest yet. If he was placed in the car after this first search, he COULD have taken the gun out of wherever he had it on his body and placed it in the seat of the vehicle. Then, after being removed, advised that he would be arrested, cuffed and returned to the car, he could have retrieved it.

According to this same article, he made a phone call to his girlfriend WHILE IN THE POLICE CAR, told her he had a gun and was scared.

I really wish that the conspiracy theorists would quit pointing fingers 1) before all the evidence is known and 2) without considering various possibilities. Especially when they have little/no knowledge of guns, laws, police procedure, etc.

Look, I was once tackled by a policeman because of a mssunderstanding. It was a highly traumatic experience and sometimes I cannot think rationally about the Police because of it. I am currently in therapy and talking to a lawyer about sueing the parties involved.

Really? You, who constantly send in complaints about people posting prejudicial comments that lump groups of people together because they have a similar background in something, are actually posting this with a straight face? Really? You constantly complain about people pre-judging groups, you complain about people saying derogatory things about groups, you complain about people posting wild generalities about groups.....and you think it was oK to say this?

Tsk Tsk Tsk......

I thought your first comment was so ridiculously put that I thought you were joking or being sarcastic as it is one of the most shameful and prejudicial comment that I have ever seen on these boards.

After seeing your second comment I could only hope one day you will be in such trouble, crying and praying for the police to come help you so that you could realize how important it is to have law enforcement and how untrue your comment is when they save your sorry ass. :BA

While I don't know everything about guns and such, I do know my own dexterity. Holding my hands behind my back, I could never aim a gun at my own head. I'm just not seeing how he could do it.

The police made this video demonstration.

See below.
I have seen guys scratch their faces while cuffed behind the back, so again, this is not a big surprise for me. Remember, he can bring his head down towards the gun as well as sliding his hands up his back to some extent.

Surprising. Did not think that would work. Thanks, guys.

Yes, you can get the gun to your head in handcuffs...but how do they explain the trajectory of the bullet going DOWNWARDS? All of the people in the demonstration video show a bullet trajectory of upwards. No video of the moment Chavis was shot? No gunshot residue tests?

If Chavis committed suicide, these questions wouldn't need to be asked.

I've seen video of someone in booking (still cuffed) pull a gun out of his waist belt and shoot himself in the head. It's a result of improper search. The arresting officers will be facing big time trouble.

Dutch handcuffs don't have a chain in the middle, with those this would be a lot more difficult. Even so, with these and the dutch ones I can still get my hands in front of me because of my long arms. I can step over them. I used to be in law enforcement this isn't impossible at all. But he must have been suicidal, you don't do this by accident.
