Man was awake during 23-year 'coma'

Belgium. They know waffles, but can't do jack when it comes to medicine.

That would basically be like getting turned into a statue and just existing....forever. He literally was a statue. I would have gone mad after the first few days.

So, as far as I can tell, he's made no comments about wanting to be "laid to rest". But some of you guys think they should have killed him anyway?

That's because a lot of people apparently have only selective value for human life.

I want to know what he thought about for 23 years. I know when I'm super bored I start thinking of random **** like "Who would when in a fight...Goku or Superman?" I can't imagine having to endure that for 23 years.

Oh boy. Here we go.

It isn't a selective value of life. It is determining whether or not you are keeping someone alive for selfish reasons. No one really wants to die themselves. And no one wants a loved one to die. But sometimes it would be cruel not to let them go when you realize that their quality of life might not be so great. I know this from experience.

If they don't want to die, then you keep them alive. This man, in what's been covered, has not shown any signs of wanting to be/ or wishing they had pulled the plug. And some of you still think they should have knocked him off long ago. That is shocking.

What you want is not always what is best for you. It might sound strange in this context, but it really isn't.

If it comes to a person's life. Then **** yeah, what they want is what is best.

Damn. What a story..

Cue Hollywood producers buying the rights to make a (bad) movie.

LOL, like that movie w/ Anakin Skywalker (can't remember the actor's name) & Jessica Alba.

The guy was just laying around, unable to do anything. He was trapped in his own body. It's more humane to euthanize him.

Finally, someone who understands why my refrigerator tells me to kill people! As they fight desperately in hopes of escaping, they don't realize I am granting them mercy!

Your refrigerator has the right idea, at least it does as long as it doesn't tell you to kill a specific type of person.

Remember kids, genocide isn't cool, so if you're going to kill a large group of people, make sure it's a diverse group.

I was going to say something snarky here, but I quickly realized that anything I can say would be in terribly bad taste. On a more serious note though, the idea that someone should be able to make the call on whether or not it's "cruel" to keep a person alive, without that person's consent is more than a little disgusting.

When my sister went into a coma, they gave us the option to put her on life support or not. Even if we had and she had come out of it, her quality of life would have been greatly reduced. She would not have been happy and we wouldn't have been happy having to see a loved one suffer. We decided to let her go. She was only 25.

Not to put a damper on anything. I'm just saying that sometimes in situations like this letting the person pass can be the best option. The human tendency is to cling to life, but who is to say that living is automatically better than dying anyway? If I'm to take a purely secular standpoint, there is no way of telling.

And that poor guy. He was a prisoner in his body for 23 years! And now that he's alive, how does he go back to his life? Everyone has moved on and grown up. In many ways, he doesn't really have a life to go back to anymore.

The guy does not sound like he is mad that he's alive, though. Seriously, would you be able to look this man in the face and tell him "they should have let you die?" That's pretty much the equivalent of telling someone "your mom should have had an abortion."

I don't see how that is the same thing. He's alive now so what would be the point in telling him that his parents should have let him die? And if I'm not mistaken, he did say that he was angry at first.

Not a day goes by that I don't come across at least one person who's mom should have had an abortion.

Abortion is evil. You are evil. God shall strike you down with a righteous bolt of furious lightning. Your soul will boil in an eternal Hell, where it will be tortured by the demons of swiss cheese! Paahreeechah!
