Don't get me wrong, zombie movie with Brad Pitt, I'm down with that. I just think it'd be a shame if they turn this into a run of the mill zombie picture with the WWZ name attached and ignore the set-up that made the book stand out. Especially since you only really get one chance at doing it right. But it's quite early still, we shall see.

Not sure I follow? They don't require oxygen, and salt water doesn't accelerate decomposition and it actually kills certain kinds of bacteria. Not to mention the temperature at the bottom of the ocean is quite cold which would if anything preserve them longer than on land.

lab rated sterile salt water would be somewhat a preservative..but ocean water is far from sterile and rife with all sorts of life that will work on carcasses.

Even if you fudge that away, the corpses would become incredibly water logged and get extremely soft..in turn bones would be like rubber and eventually fall apart.

The pressure from the ocean depths would collapse any cavity or pocket in the human body, crush brains, etc..this would kill any zombie more certain. The depth talked about in the book were immense. they would require inches if not feet of steel to withstand.

Of course, Animal life would eat the dead bodies.

here is a good artical

Human soft tissue becomes a "paste" in ocean water very quickly...this would effectively kill any zombie more effectively than a bullet to the brain.

In short, the zombies are too powerful to be able to survive that..it was ridiculous.

Lol and zombies in general aren't ridiculous? Your over thinking this.

Ha your right. I do like when zombies are kinda scientificly plausible though.

World War Z, some of the stuff was the ole "magic zombie" feel

Brad Pitt Saves Woman on ‘World War Z’ Set

What woman hasn’t dreamt of being rescued by two-time “Sexiest Man Alive” Brad Pitt? That dream came true for an actress on the Glasgow, Scotland set of Pitt’s upcoming zombie thriller “World War Z.” While filming a massive action sequence involving more than 700 extras, the woman fell and was nearly trampled by a horde of zombies. That is, until the mighty arms of Mr. Angelina Jolie scooped her to safety.
“It was total chaos as 700 extra were trying to get down the street,” a witness told the Scottish Sun. “They were banging into moving cars, cameras and military who were carrying heavy machine guns. Lots of people hurt themselves, and Brad came to the rescue of a woman who slipped.”
The woman was understandably shocked when she realized who saved her.
“I don’t think she could believe it when Brad picked her up,” the source continued. “He didn’t have time to speak to her as it was mid-shoot. But she said afterwards how grateful she was, despite having a badly-grazed knee.”
According to reports, the Scotland shoot has been plagued with injuries and accidents. Numerous extras, including children and elderly, suffered scrapes and bruises during the aforementioned shoot. One man was even hit by a moving car. In two previous incidents, an actor suffered whiplash when he crashed a truck into a camera and an actress broke a rib in an unrelated accident.

Damn it. That guy in the clip is really earning his money. That freaked me the Hell out.

Fast zombies and a fast turn???? FUUUUUU!! ****!

What the hell?? This goes completely against what the books said.

First the plot change now this? My hype went from low to none.

Yeah...pretty lame that they went with the fast zombie garbage. One of the coolest elements of the book was that the zombies were the slow, classic type. Laaaaaaaame.

I kind of hate that the whole fast zombie thing started, now it's become too much of a template. I guess their mindset is, slow, plodding zombies don't make for good tension.

Forster trying to explain some of the film:

http://www.filmschoolrejects.com/ne...-and-social-commentary-behind-world-war-z.php

People are already ragging on World War Z, a movie over a year away.

Adaptation always requires changes, but a book like World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War requires many, many changes. The structure doesn’t lend itself to a big budgeted Hollywood film. Director Marc Forster, clearly, knows this. Instead of making a documentary zombie movie, it’s a Brad Pitt and his family trying to survive movie!

That’s not the World War Z fans know — and despite the current popular belief — that’s not the approach Forster is taking.

A few weeks ago I spoke with the filmmaker, and his zombie epic was briefly touched upon. The interview was for Machine Gun Preacher, so I didn’t set out to ask about WWZ. But after discussing a few different aesthetics he’s shot and trying to bring smarts to blockbuster filmmaking, his currently filming adaptation naturally came up.

Despite the narrative changes we all know about, Forster did set out to capture the spirit of the book, the political spirit:

"I think that's the whole point of it. The book is not a narrative by any means, but that's what I found in reading it: it can make for a political commentary within a genre picture. You know, I want it all to feel very real. Zombies are a metaphor for human behavior. There's so much interesting stuff happening in the world right now, and on a global scale of change. Not just in the Middle East, but a lot of other places, as well. I do think zombies are a great metaphor. In the 70s, zombies were very popular, and George Romero was making critical movies about consumerism. It's a great metaphor to play with. If you make them a part of your environment, then the more people can identify that this could happen in the here and now."

Maybe they're only fast when they're "fresh"?

I don't care about the zombies being fast. But it's kinda annoying that the movie isn't gonna be same as the book. It'd have been pretty cool and unique if Pitt was the reporter guy, going around investigating and interviewing people about their different experiences with the zombies. With flashbacks of what happened to each of them etc. Would have loved to have seen the war at Brooklyn or that Japanese guys story where he was stuck in the tower block.

Well I do care, why? Because that's how they were originally envisioned by Romero and that's who Brooks got his inspiration from.

This effen director is just trying to be hip right now by putting in the fast zombies that are being put in video games and some recent movies.

I could've lived with the story being about the start of the apocalypse and Pitt seeing how it started, but this mess about the fast movers is just too damn much.

Some of the zombies in the book ran. IIRC they could see a "river" of them running through Kansas all the way from space.

i've just started the book, and i'm really thinking i should wait till i seen this, don't want to sit and compare the two

No, they never ran, if I'm not mistaken. Even in Brooks' previous book he says it's impossible for zombies to run because of their muscle capacity or something along those lines. IMO, part of the reason his zombies were cool was because they were slow buffoons, but with high numbers they were nigh unstoppable. That's much more creepy than fast zombies.

I don't mind the story change, because to be honest I found the way the book was told (in "let me tell you a story, billy" form) was much too passive. It made me feel way less tension than I would have if it were told in a non-passive fashion.

But the running zombies.....bleh........

Yeah they never ran, it was explained in The Zombie Survival Guide.

Oh well, at least The Walking Dead is going to start in another month.

I thought the coolest part of the book was the pilot who crashed and had to survive in the wilderness.

That should be the template for the movie.

This movie can't catch a break....

SWAT Team Raids Brad Pitt's World War Z Set

Brad Pitt isn't a terrorist -- but he's certainly being treated like one.

On Monday, a SWAT team raided a Budapest warehouse holding weapons being used in Pitt's upcoming zombie movie World War Z. "The film is already over budget and over schedule," a source tells Us Weekly. "Brad is furious."

Police seized 85 fully-functional weapons, most of which were automatic, military-style assault rifles. "We can confirm that weapons were confiscated at an airport," Hajdu Janos and Zsolt Bodnar, the director and deputy director of Hungary's Anti-Terrorism Unit, tell Us.

The problem, a source says, is that the guns came with paperwork claiming they were non-functional -- but they're actually in working order.
