‘World War Z’ To Undergo Extensive Re-Shoots

http://screenrant.com/world-war-z-movie-reshoots-delay-sandy-176652/

Paramount’s decision to push the release date for G.I. Joe: Retaliation back by nine months was considered an extremely bold move – one which also reeked of desperation, given the timing – so in that sense, the studio’s six-month delay of World War Z seemed more reasonable. After all, the latter announcement was made nine months in advance of the zombpocalyptic thriller’s original Winter 2012 release date – and really, WWZ just reads as being a better fit for summer.
However, just as it recently came to light that G.I. Joe 2 may have really been delayed so as to allow for extensive re-shoots (in the hopes of salvaging the film) – it’s also starting to look like World War Z could be in a bad spot.

The Daily Mail says that Brad Pitt and certain other members of the World War Z cast are participating in seven weeks’ worth of additional photography for the film, beginning on-location in Budapest. Although there’s been no suggestion yet that director Marc Forster won’t be supervising said re-shoots, his involvement is (technically) unconfirmed for the time being. That also goes for co-stars Matthew Fox and James Badge Dale – the latter of which may be unavailable in the immediate future, since he’s also appearing in Iron Man 3

I smell diaster.

This movie should've been like District 9..a mix of news footage, interviews with a narrative, like the book.

Wow, I had completely forgotten about this movie even existing. Paramount seems to be lacking in the confidence lately.

My guess is that the changes made to Straczynski's original draft didnt film well, or the shooting script was just really weak.

Like the article says, 1-2 weeks of reshoots is normal. SEVEN weeks of reshooting means there were big time issues with the rough cut of the film.

It's a shame. I love this book and Pitt is one of my favorite A-List actors. But everything is winding up so different I don't know if this thing will be any more recognizable as World War Z as it will from your basic generic zombie film

Well there goes my anticipation. When studios do this it rrarely turns out well. Either they want to make the movie how they want it and end up turning it into ****. Or its already **** and the reshoots will make it somewhat watchable. Either way this sucks. Is the battle of Yonkers even in the film?

7 weeks? Wow, it seems like the movie is in need of some serious improvement. It's a pity, since it was a struggle to get it out of development in the first place. But with seven weeks of reshoots, they have time to change a lot. Hopefully it's for the better.

I know right? The budget would have probably been less than half as much as well so profitably would have been more likely.

So... what? Are they reshooting half the movie?

Jesus .

My gut instinct is that this may not be in this film, but might be planned for a sequel. Since Pitt said they were planning this thing as a trilogy, I'm guessing they'll plan to break up the book into films this way:

World War Z - the outbreak, efforts to contain it failing en masse, Phallanx, Warmbrunn-Knight report, The Great Panic, etc.

World War Z2 (God help me if the marketers dub this one "Z2"): Population overrrun, breakdown of society: this is likely where you'll see the Battle of Yonkers, Raj-Singh, the Redeker Plan, the fortification west of the Rocky Mountains, disappearance of North Korea, etc.

World War Z3 ( I assume BMW would sue if they call it "Z3"): The Honolulu Conference, Battle of Hope, Terry Knox, Rise of Cuba, Hero City, Road to NY, etc.

Wonder what genius decided to drop the documentary style? That was the whole hook.

That is what I'm thinking. I wonder if Paramount wants a straight action/war movie about a zombie/human war rather than a documentary about the aftermath?

i'd bet yes

Only problem with the documentary format, which works fine in the book but may not work on film, is there's little drama in it. You know all of the people interviewed, and Brooks for that matter, are going to survive. Not to mention, there's really not much empathy for the main character in WWZ. You barely know anything about him.

Paramount may have wanted something with a little more suspense, hence they take the same events but you experience them through Pitt's character as they happen as opposed to in the past. This of course is somewhat silly considering he wont be able to be everywhere at once and it's likely going to lead to some things getting cut out. Again though, this is only a theory.

I actually like the action/war idea than the documentary one, but thats just me I guess.

Damon Lindelof to Rewrite 'World War Z'

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/damon-lindelof-world-war-z-prometheus-brad-pitt-335241

Screenwriter Damon Lindelof has been brought in to save Paramount’s troubled zombie movie World War Z.
The big-budget movie, in which Brad Pitt stars and is serving as one of the producers, has been troubled, and its release has been pushed from a December, 2012 release to June, 21 2013. It is now awaiting signficant reshoots. Lindelof, the Lost co-creator and co-author of Ridley Scott and Fox’s Prometheus, is said to be focusing on the movie's third act. The production hopes to begin reshoots in September or October.

Paramount, your asses got lucky with TF and the Marvel house, but you are seriously stepping in it now with all these random reshoots.

Lol wow they're re-writing the third act? Maybe they're adding more Channing Tatum? :o

This movie must've really been terrible or not 'exciting' enough for them to rewrite and shoot the entire third act over.

well when was the last good Forster movie?

QOS was awful
