Well, I'm sure whatever Lindelof does will better than what they have, at least. Should've stuck more to the book, seems like nothing more than a generic zombie attack movie, I'll probably give it a chance though, due to Brad Pitt.

See that's the thing. Pitt doesn't do schlocky, run-of-the-mill movies. He's not like a Liam Neeson or Anthony Hopkins who every once in a while does it "for the paycheck."

maybe he spend way to much money and needs a million paycheck.

TBH I wouldn't be surprised if he actually just cared about the story and doing it well. It seems like it was the production that ultimately failed and the rushed job from the studio.

It always floors me when productions actually go into production without a finished script or without a polished script and then make changes as they go. Part of me thinks that's just absolutely absurd and guaranteed to make the film a mess, but then I remember "The Shining." I suppose that's the exception, though.

Yeah, I have actually noticed that looking at his resume. You'd think he'd be one of those guys that does the big payday blockbuster once a year, but not so much.

I think the closest he's come to that is the Ocean's 11 movies.

There's a lot of preplanning and scheduling and permits that go into these things, sometimes months in advance. after a certain point you have to just forge ahead and worry about script rewrites on the run because to delay shooting would be a disaster.

I'm aware of that, but I'm talking about major rewrites during shooting. Obviously unforseen issues and stuff pop up during filming that might require rewrites, but studios sometimes go into production full swing when the script isn't even finished lol. To expect anything more than a mediocre film in those cases is fruitless.

And I can tell you from experience that there's nothing more frustrating when making a film or TV show than when the director can't make up his/her mind. The entire job description calls for making firm decisions...when the director can't do that (such as deciding how the zombies should look 3 weeks before shooting starts) he/she should probably GTFO.

World War Z is in trouble

http://www.tgdaily.com/games-and-entertainment-features/64026-world-war-z-is-in-trouble

Now more details of woe have leaked to the Hollywood Reporter, which claims the film's budget is topping $170 million with "extensive reshoots" and "creative issues." The Reporter also tells us Pitt was originally hoping World War Z would be a franchise, and like George Romero's best, zombies could be more than just zombies. In fact, Pitt saw them as "a Trojan horse for sociopolitical problems.".....

Of course, there have been plenty of troubled films that were eventually pulled together. For example, the second Bourne movie practically had to start over from scratch and ultimately did just fine. Jaws was re-written day to day because they couldn't get the shark working, and it turned out incredibly well. So maybe World War Z can pull itself together, or so we horror fans hope.

With all this news of Marc Foster simply not being able to handle such a massive production , i'm surprised Paramount went with Foster.
THere are reports that Foster has similar problems with Quantum of SOlace but because of the fact that the Broccolli's always work with the same team , they basically could make a solid flick.
In FOster's case i think he really should take a look at himself and realise what his limitations are as a director.
Take a look at Duncan Jones. Despite the fact that after Moon and Source Code he was offered some pretty high profile projects such as Man of Steel he ultimtaely decided that he wasn't ready to handle such a massive project at this stage in his life.

Actually Lindelof on board gives me even less confidence now. Now I will have to look forward to arguments about how thought-provoking the movie is and that I "just don't get it".

Haha, or even worse, that you're too lazy to think about how deep the story is, and how great the symbolism is... :woot:

That's right. Because wanting resolution to a story means I like being spoon fed all the answers.

I can't comment on Prometheus, but the people that made complaints like that against LOST really did want to be spoon-fed. The answers were all there. Some were just too ****ing lazy to look. :o

That's how I felt about Prometheus. :oldrazz:

Not really. Like, who were the other shooters in the outrigger incident? What were the meaning of the numbers? (Yes, I realize they gave an "answer" in some online game, but as someone who really only invested in the show and not the ancillary stuff, it should have been answered on the show). Anyway, I'm not getting into a Lost debate but to say the answers were all there is just not true.

I'll give you the outrigger thing, but it's not as if any and all enjoyment in the series hinges upon knowing who was shooting at them.

As for the numbers, there were multiple events correlating to the numbers. What exactly is there to say?

The outrigger shooters had an ajira bottle in their other boat. It goes to reason they were either some of Widmores people or some of Jacobs people. They opened fore because their boat was being stolen. Does it really matter who they were? I mean out of all the mysteries who really cares who they are. They were a plot device to add tension to the scene. That is all. I think some people at that point were beginning to create mysteries out of nothing and then demanded these insignificant plot motivations have answers.

As for the numbers, the MIB said Jacob had a thing for numbers. That is all you really need to know to infer any answers you're looking for regarding the numbers. The numbers originated from him and then various people heard them or picked them up through various ways and they spread from there. Example: dharma picked them up somehow and used them at the swan. It wasnt destiny or divine providence. Someone just happened to come across the numbers due to a specific chain of events and they ended up being used at the swan. These things happen in everyday life. Someone comes up with something. It spreads people tack on some superstition and then its bigger than its source ever intended it to be. The numbers are just numbers Jacob picked.

Brad Pitt discusses 'World War Z' reshoots: "It's a monster of a film"

http://www.digitalspy.com/movies/ne...d-war-z-reshoots-its-a-monster-of-a-film.html
"It's just a big monster of a film, and it's got to work, and there's certain...how do I describe it? It's just gotta work a certain way," Pitt told HeyUGuys when asked about the nature of the reshoots, adding that such a decision is "not unusual".

He went on to say that he and his fellow producers realized that they "could do better" when they reached the editing stage.

"It's a monster of a film, and there's a lot of working parts to it," Pitt concluded.

In addition to producing, Pitt stars in the sci-fi drama alongside The Killing actress Mireille Enos, James Badge Dale, David Morse and Matthew Fox.

Drew Goddard: My World War Z rewrite is no cause for alarm

Thanks to this ongoing cavalcade of disastrous developments, when it was revealed that Goddard had been tasked with rewriting World War Z’s script many fans worried that this would finally be the straw that broke the movie’s back. Goddard however, wants all those anxiously awaiting the film to know that his work is a boon for the project. Speaking to MTV, Goddard explained that his work, unlike the rewrite penned by Carnahan, was less of a complete overhaul and more of one friend offering advice to another friend on a troubled production.

“A lot got blown out of proportion about that,” Goddard told MTV News. “This happens a lot where studios ask you to come and look at movies, and then you give your opinion on them. That’s really what happens, and then you throw out some ideas for ways to make the movie better, but that happens on tons of movies.”

“I’m just friends with people at Paramount, and they had me do it,” Goddard added. “Somehow that leaked out. It became a much bigger deal. I just watched the movie and gave them ideas for how to make it better.”
To drive home his point, Goddard explained that his rewrite was so minor that he won’t even be receiving a credit on the final version of the film. “I wrote down some ideas, but it wasn’t like ‘Drew’s rewriting the movie.’ I will not have a writing credit on that movie,” Goddard explained.

Assuming this is the last hurdle for the production to leap before it steams along, full speed ahead toward the final stages of filming, World War Z should see its theatrical debut on June 21, 2013. That said, and despite our affection for all of Brooks’ novels, we’re not holding our breath on that date for reasons that should be quite plain.

Matthew Fox: 'World War Z problems have no basis in fact'

http://www.digitalspy.com/movies/ne...rld-war-z-problems-have-no-basis-in-fact.html

He said: "I think that the turmoil thing has been, it's one of those things that we live in a world these days where somebody can float an idea on the internet... and they can have no basis for expertise on that idea.

"They can be anyone. And they can have no basis in fact at all and suddenly it's become like a notion out there that World War Z is having problems.

"Everybody who I've spoken to that's seen the film - it rocks, dude; it's going to kick ass. And the only issue that I'm hearing with the film is that they want to work on the third act; the end of the film."

Fox's producers on Lost, Damon Lindelof and Drew Goddard, were brought in to re-write the third act. Fox suggested in the interview that this was due to the studio's wish to turn World War Z into a trilogy.

He claimed: "In the original script I always felt it was the perfect combination of a complete film on its own and yet at the same time left you going like, 'Oh my god, we need another installment'.

"And so I think they're just really fine tuning that, and it might require some additional shooting to get it the way they want it."
