March 23rd - PS3 Launches In PAL Regions

UK, January 24, 2007 - Sony has confirmed the PlayStation 3 will be released in the UK and across Europe on March 23, priced £425 (599 Euros). A million units will be available for launch, although how that number will be divided across the different territories is unclear. As expected, only the 60GB model will be initially available, although Sony hasn't written off launching the 20GB version, stating, "Following the launch period we will review the situation and introduce it if there is sufficient demand from consumers."

30 titles will be available from day one, including Resistance: Fall of Man, MotorStorm and Formula One Championship Edition, as well as eight titles ready for download via the PlayStation Network. Gran Turismo HD Concept will also be available for download from launch, so those of you lucky enough to own a 1080p HDTV will finally get to put it through its paces.

Following in the footsteps of the US and Japanese launches, the console will ship with a single SIXAXIS controller and a composite cable, along with version 1.5 of the firmware, with 1.6 available for download shortly after. Additional pads will cost £34.99 each, plus a range of official PlayStation cables - HDMI (£17.99), AV Scart (£12.99), component (£17.99) and S-video (£12.99 - all available when the machine hits the shelves. Movie-loving buyers can also pick up a Blu-Ray remote control for £17.99.

Sony also announced the PlayStation 3 will launch in Russia on April 20 and that a release date for India will be revealed soon.

Commenting on the launch, Ray Maguire, SVP and MD of SCEUK said, "Following the hugely successful launches of PS3 in Japan and North America, we are absolutely delighted to be able to bring significant numbers of PS3 to the UK. To be able to launch with over 30 titles including retail versions and great downloadable gaming experiences across every genre shows that this is our strongest launch line-up in the history of PlayStation, and is what PlayStation fans in the UK have been crying out for."

Best launch lineup ever? probably.

Well I suppose that when you delay a system for 4 months (in addition to the year it already was delayed) it would be easy to have so many games ready for launch. Maybe they should've done the same over here and just delay the system until Nov.07 so that they could've released a year's worth of games all at launch.

Too true, finally here though. Laucnday if I get my hands on a console I'll get Resistance for sure and maybe Motorstorm, no split screen throws me off of it.

LOL best launch ever????

I have played all the best games on that list MONTHS ago. Last year in fact! :D

But seriously, to the people who still want a PS3 in Europe: good luck to both of you.

Thanks dude... I think

Why does imdaly have to be such a hater. :|

As per those lists, uh, the only thing goes for either of those lists is like a Mario itteration.

Versus Sony's lineuup?

NES: Mario bros might win it for them relative to each consoles time but the only other thing on that list is like Excite Bike of over rated ness.
SNES: Eh I wouldn't say Super mario World is enough to make it a better launch then PS3, though it makes it really close relatively speaking. F-Zero was awesome.
N64: Mario 64 never ever did it for me but I recognize how 1 game can make an entire launch lineup better to people who REALLY love that one game. Alas I am not one of them.
Gamecube: Lawl
Wii: I pity anyone who thinks that is a good release lineup (aside from Zelda and Sports it's all lazy ports and bad games and TP is no Ocarina. :o)

PS3:
Resistance
Motorstorm
Formula One Championship Edition
Ridge Racer 7
Virtua Fighter 5 (Hi Jesus)
Virtua Tennis 3
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent (maybe? never played it)
The Elder Scrolls lV: Oblivion (eh depends on who you ask)
Fight Night Round 3
F.E.A.R.

Is a darn good release list.

lol I wouldn't consider myself a "hater", but more of a..."hype stablizer". I like to look at things in a more realistic way then others, and when I see a company constantly overhyping on everything and underdelivering on it all, I try my best to save people from being sucked into the hype machine by cutting out any and all useless "hype fat", so as to help prevent so much disappointment that's bound to happen otherwise. :)

You should be thankful that I at least keep a level head on me, and never resort to name-calling or anything of the sort to those that do get caught up in the hype like others will and have.

After all, you're not the enemy...you're the victims. I'm just trying to help :)

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent (maybe? never played it)
It's an awesome game, IMO. I know *I* loved it when it came out 3 months ago. ;)

The Elder Scrolls lV: Oblivion (eh depends on who you ask)
Another great game. Got kinda old after I beat it, though...a year ago. :D

Fight Night Round 3
Played the demo for it when it came out on the 360 14 months ago. I'm just not into sports titles though, so not my bag.

I've played the 360 demo for it, and it was pretty good. But I figure if I've been able to put off playing it for the past 3 months that its been out, I can wait a little longer to get around to playing it.

;) Love ya, Zenien.

& lets not forget that Virtual Fighter 5 is also coming to the XBOX 360

You have to consider that the Super Nintendo launch only had 2 games for it. 2 awesome games compared 1 awesome game with the rest crap.

N64: Mario 64 never ever did it for me but I recognize how 1 game can make an entire launch lineup better to people who REALLY love that one game. Alas I am not one of them.
That's because you suck.

Gamecube: Lawl
There's Rogue Squadron and...that's it. The Gamecube launch was crap :csad:

Wii: I pity anyone who thinks that is a good release lineup (aside from Zelda and Sports it's all lazy ports and bad games and TP is no Ocarina. :o)
Better than Playstation 3's launch titles.

PS3:
Resistance
Motorstorm
Formula One Championship Edition
Ridge Racer 7
Virtua Fighter 5 (Hi Jesus)
Virtua Tennis 3
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent (maybe? never played it)
The Elder Scrolls lV: Oblivion (eh depends on who you ask)
Fight Night Round 3
F.E.A.R.

Is a darn good release list.
I ****ing hate Europe to have the vastly more superior launch line up than we had :cmad:

I have to agree with Hippie. Nintendo's Wii launch was superior. And you really can't compare a "launch after the actual launch" line-up to the real launch line-up of another console.

ExciteBike, Duck Hunt, and Super Mario Bros. were awesome

Excitebikesucks. ;)

The European launch has more then just 1 good game. :csad:

That's because you suck.

Bah, if its any consolation I thought Crash Bandicoot was a was of space. Mario wasn't terrible I just never enjoyed it.

There's Rogue Squadron and...that's it. The Gamecube launch was crap :csad:

So why did you list it. :csad:

Better than Playstation 3's launch titles.

Virtua Fighter! :csad:

Though as much as you may hate me for this I found Twilight Princess lacking as a Zelda game. Though I dare not tell Kipobe, it would be the end of him.

I ****ing hate Europe to have the vastly more superior launch line up than we had :cmad:

Curse those Europeans!!!!

To be honest I'm willing to conceed that the comment was overblown, though saying the N64, Gamecube, and Wii had better launch lineups isn't like true imo. :o

Is it just me, or is that FadingCB guy a big Sony fanbot

But seriously, that Europe launch line-up looks sexy

Just saw this....I did/said what to you to get you to say that . Nevermind I don't really want to know. I have said, and mean I don't feel any loyalty to Sony. I don't want to argue, so dropping it.

Maybe rather than concerntrate on past Sony failures, we could concentrate on the fact this is a great European launch, albeit an expensive one.

Agreed, and sorry for any derailment. He sent me a private message, and we'll keep it there (please no response here fran, we can keep it civil and keep it in private tells even tho this is getting stupid). Edit - P.S. I'm sorry Avalanche, I really didn't mean to hurt your thread any and will leave it, I was just surprised to see my name in a thread I hadn't posted in.

Ya, a bit jealous lol, you guys are getting the better launch :). Even tho it's not the best launch in history, it's a good one.

Damn. :csad: If this lineup was in USA, I'd have lined up for it :o

Is it okay for me to post in here

I don't see why not.

"I enjoyed that game... 3 months ago"

I'm more talking about the quality of the titles on the list you jerks. :cmad:

The Europeans are getting the real deal PS3 launch. :csad:

Except for it's not really the "real deal" PS3 launch, since none of those are actually launch titles other than titles that have been out for a month or more.

Though, I doubt that line-up will change much in the way of how it sells over there, anyways.
