Wednesday 17-Jan-2007 10:51 AM Irish website lets slip Euro PlayStation 3 price - and it's more expensive than we thought...
The Irish version of Sony's official PlayStation 3 website may have just given away the price of the console in Europe - and it's more expensive than previously thought.

According to the 'price' section of the website the 60GB version of the PS3 will retail for 629.99 EUR (414 GBP) - 30 EUR more than the price previously announced at last year's E3.

Further more the site suggests a price rice for the cheaper 20GB model, which will now retail for 529.99 EUR (348 GBP) instead of the previously announced 499.99 EUR.

However, unlike the pricer 60GB mode the 20GB version will not be available "at launch" in Ireland.

It was always going to be £425 in the UK, so that fits in with expectations.

Nah, they aren't making any money on the PS3 now until the end of 07. They just lose less money in Europe because Europe likes it rough.

Wow could they **** over Europe anymore?

^

They probably will. We always get the rough end of the stick.

Every idiot who buys a ps3 in europe deserves it.

But then I was under the impression you enjoy the ass rape :D
I think it all depends on how much money you have spare. If I had enough money to buy a PS3 at launch without making my financial situation uncomfortable, I would. The UK launch will be a better launch than the Japanese and US launches.

Personally, I think it's overpriced, but if I had the money, which many will, I'd buy it at the drop of a hat.

Why?

it's nothing to do with price. its the fact it's not worth it. blu-ray hasn't exactly done booming buisness. it has the worst launch line up in history, and no good exclusives. It's online service is a shambles, and it's pretty much flopped and is firm third place, being easily outsold by 360 and wii.

So yeah, I think you would be mental to buy it, even if you were a billionaire. It's crap.

I'm can confidently say the system is not crap, and I also believe PS2 had a worse launch. Resistance is pretty much the only game worth owning at this point, other than sports games. However March will deliver a lot of great games (Motorstorm, Rainbow 6, ect). Blu-Ray is getting stronger now that more systems are in homes via the PS3 and it is well supported by the industry. The only thing I really agree with you is the price.

By the time the UK launch rolls by, there's going to be more on offer. More games worth having, and some of the problems ironed out.

If money weren't an object I'd buy it. It is though, and I won't be buying a PS3 any time soon.

Blu-Ray hasn't done booming business, but the next gen formats will take off eventually, and the more PS3s there are out there, the bigger the market is going to get.

Yeah I suppose that's fair enough, but I really don't see why you or anyone are optimistic about better games.

By this point in it's life cycle, with the 360, we KNEW a lot of good games would be coming, even before it's release, like dead rising, lost planet, Halo 3 already, and we don't really have ONE interesting ps3 exclusive. They have bungled it up, big time.

Metal Gear Solid 4, Final Fantasy XIII, White Knight Story, Motorstorm, Naughty Dog game, Team ICO, God of War III, Heavenly Sword, Devil May Cry 4, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Unreal Tournament 2007 (wouldn't be suprised if it turns out multi), Killzone 2, Ratchet and Clank 5, Resistance: Fall of Man 2.

MGS is lame, FF is lame, never heard of white knight story, MS looks mediocre, don't like naughty dog, who's team ico, God of war 3 will probably be good, hs is a rip off of god of war, dmc hasn't changed since the first one , just gotten worse stories, ninja gaiden's been out for years on x box, u.t looks generic, killzone 2 is still just a movie and will probably underwhelm like the first, rachet and clank are sub nintendo, and resistance was a generic shooter that got decent reviews which admitted it was nothing spectacular.

The only, and I say ONLY, game likely to be any good is God of war 3, and HS, and thats only because it rips off GOW. And one good game and a rip off isn't worth paying for.

Plus, without the rumble, action and fps and racing games loose something. I don't know how to explain it but I tried playing old fps recently on my psone, and without the rumble, it just doesn't feel the same.

So I will give you two games, even if one is a rip off and the other is still not officially announced. still not worth the cash.

where's the bioshocks? where's the alan wakes, the gears of war, the halo wars that got me hooked into the 360? where's the mass effects? It's like 360 had tonnes of quality exclusive games one after the other, slam dunk after slam dunk, and still after all this time Sony hasn't got one exclusive i consider worth it (and god of war isn't officially announced yet even).

I suppose if you are into any of those old franchises then you want a ps3, but for new, amazing IPs, 360 is the only choice right now.

I think the average score for Resistance was 89%, hardly "decent" reviews

almost every launch title gets better reviews than they should, and thats for every system. lets be honest about that (perfect dark for example on 360 got more positive reviews than it should have, but now after the launch hype its considered mediocre. and reistance is barely even talked about on most gaming sites, and certainly not as often and as revered as halo). and then that still counted loads of websites that really aren't worth mentioning. the websites that count are mayb ign and gamespot, thats it. and most reviews mention that it's really not as good as it should be (at least in the uk mags, its been mentioned in EVERY SINGLE REVIEW).

It didn't even get as good reviews as the first Halo, and that was released half a decade ago. Hardly what I'd call a killer franchise,

I think Resistance is a solid franchise with lots of potential, although I never thought of it as a Halo killer. that's pretty ludakris

Resistance is a solid game- the problem is that it's no killer app while Wii already has a MORE solid, better game at launch and 360, though it's been a good while, has found it's own first killer app.

So Resistance is great but both the competition released better games at the same time.

i dont think the price of the ps3 is even that bad, specially for the 60gb console
