Marco Polo on Netflix

I watched the first episode and I liked it. Production value is great.

Done with the season.
Satisfying final episode, the story arc got its foreclosure and it started new openings for the next season.
The baddest characters so far : the Monk and the ****e spy.

Shamelessly quoting myself. The Monk and the Concubine are still the baddest :)

Good season 2, I bing watched it in a couple of days, unfortunately I also bing watched season 1 so some details were lost to me like the origin of the feud between Kublai and Kurai.

Amhad; the one who likes getting tired up and being dominated by Mei Lin (the ****e Spy)….. in ep 5 'Lullaby' Ahmed kills the woman who starts singing a song he remembers from his childhood. I can't figure out for the life of me who she is. She's way to young and hot to be his mom..so any guesses..?

I think she was his mother beside looking relatively young and she said herself that she made the song for her lost son, the same song that Amhad remembered from his childhood.
It was 12 year prior to the current events, Amhad must have been 16 y/o or so, it can fit

As with season one, I found the latter 1/4 or so of season two far more interesting and entertaining than the earlier episodes.

One thing that really strikes me about this show is how little it needs the titular character. Marco Polo would be just as good if not better telling the story of Kublai Khan and co without Marco plodding about. It doesn't help that Lorenzo Richelmy (Marco) is one of the least expressive actors on the show, especially when put aside Benedict Wong's brilliant performance as Kublai.

That being said I did find the conflict between Marco and his father interesting, but it happened so late in the season it doesn't help save the majority of the episodes.

Overall I enjoy the show a great deal. I hope in season three they either make Marco take more of a backseat or vastly increase his range and story. I also hope season three kicks off with a bang and doesn't repeat the dull, slow burn pace of the first two seasons. I appreciate the need for a climax to finish off a season, but I don't think that requires making the build-up borderline boring.

Also Hundred Eyes in the friggin' bomb!

I just binge watched both seasons! I love this show!

Just finished watching Season 2. Entertaining show. Hope a Season 3 happens.

‘Marco Polo’ Canceled After 2 Seasons On Netflix

Marco Polo has come to an end. Netflix has opted not to renew the drama series about the famous 13th century merchant and explorer for a third season. Marco Polo, which launched in 2014, was the first Netflix original series developed in the US for the global market. Created by John Fusco, it was inspired by Marco Polo’s early years in the court of Kublai Khan. Because of its setting and scope, the series, produced by the Weinstein Co., had a healthy budget. It attracted sizable viewership in its first season, earning a second season renewal, but the second season, released in July, was more quiet.

Can't say I'm surprised. For everything Marco Polo did right, it did ten things wrong. On top of that, a "healthy budget" can cripple even wildly popular shows and folks weren't exactly yakking about Marco's adventures in the break room everyday.

Let's get Hundred Eyes a spin-off show with a lower cost per episode where he just wanders about going on adventures. I bet everyone would watch that!

I watched the first season but didn't watch the second.

Tom Wu should get a role on one of the Netflix Defenders shows. He would be great in Iron Fist or something.
