Mark Millar's Many Thoughts On Superman

I'd rather have Jeph Loeb write the movie than Mark Millar.

And Superman should be released during Christmas. It's untapped and has worked wonders for LOTR, among others. Paramount is going to find out it made a huge mistake by not releasing Star Trek this winter.

I hope that WB picks Millar up for this. His story and passion for Superman sound like they would be perfect for a trilogy.

this is what 4 % of the whole story? doesnt make him a good movie writter for a superman movie.
mabye hes dialoge is on uwe boll level.

don't like the ending. too sad for a superhero who represents hope.

and it doesn't really leave anything for possible sequels. and the story hasn't ended in the comics, so no need to end it in the films. The godfather story didn't end with part 3. the guy didn't carleone didn't die, and even if he did, the story could still move on.

love everything but the ending.

why after 3 movies it needs to be ready for a sequel?
after 3 movies this would be like 9 years? they can reboot.

Yes...but that would be in the second film. From what I read...the first film doesn't even have superman in it as the film takes place almost entirely on Kypton.

I never got that implication. Millar seems to just want to show how wonderous Krypton was before its death. Perhaps fifteen to thirty minutes?

I was just about to say something before the good folks at Empire beat me to it. :o

"Although several other sources have reported similar conversations with Mark, he went into further detail, fleshing out the story arc a little more."

We've heard all this before. Millar just wants press. The fact that he publicly revealed his pitch pretty much confirmed that he's not getting the gig...

i like the idea of an epic trilogy, but not with the first movie being all on krypton.

and if wb puts in the money for this trilogy, you can bet your ass it will be a summer movie. id expect them to release superman a year after batman 3 (which i personally think is closer than we expect), and then the next 2 summers of superman.

I don't hate Millar's ideas, really. That ending could be really cool.

But I still don't see him writing this thing for some reason.

Well his grand idea is interesting, but they need to get TRUE screenwriters onboard to hammer out the script from his story. The ending of the 3rd film sounds far to depressing for a Superman film however.

I can definitely see Zack Snyder with his visual style directing a film like this though.

Michael Bay?? Ahh....No....

yea the ending should be doomsday and supes dying. funeral and all... could have an after credits scene (just for fun, not for a sequel) of the casket being opened like in the comics.

him standing there waiting to be blown the hell up is stupid.

yeah but why do you still need it to end at 3. they can live happily ever after, or sad ever after, but why do you feel the need to "salt the earth" too. the story could end at the third movie, but no need to kill everyone off including the main character. LOTR didn't have an ending where everyone die off. even with abo****e no intention of making further movies, its just a terrible way to end the story. not every biography has end with the death of the individual, or death of everyone for that matter.

like i said, way too sad, i mean, why would you have superman die of old age with no one around him for millions of years. what a weird idea. and making a sad weird ending does not make it a mature adult movie.

but if you really want superman dying, it should be in the end final battle full blown fight agaisnt darkseid or brainiac or something, where he dies to save everyone kidna thing. but then teh world is happy ever after. that's a much better sad ending than the said ending.

i mean can you imagine the theater during the last 5 minutes, with him waiting for the world to explode, and then it explodes. that's so depressing (unless, he sends his kid somewhere else...hmmm)

WB's should consider releasing the first film during the Holidays.

BIG money can be made during the holidays when it comes to big action and dramatic epics. Without a doubt!

The Superman Story I've always wanted to see is not one beginning with superman or Clark Kent or little baby Kal-El floating through space towards earth.

I want to see a movie following the life of Jor-El: A man whos struggling to save a dying planet, but in the end, realizes their fate is inevitable and the only hope for krypton's future lies with is own son. Who he sends to earth.

That to me sounds Epic.

i absolutely love this idea. I feel that he's the only one who would really do an amazing job and really keep the character close to the comics, ESPECIALLY the suit. I really see him updating it with keeping the exact scheme of the suit.

I wouldn't mind michael bay directing, but he needs to not put his own input on how the character should look or how the story should play out. i mean, we don't want superman to have flames to break up the blue. I feel that he's a wee bit too selfish. he wants what he thinks is cool, but sometimes it's important to be repestful of the material than what you think would "make sense"

yeah this interview was just now thefinal thing. 100% self promotion.

if this is already in 2008. until the movie is realesed he would leak everything right? :hehe:

hahahaha come on guys. now its getting obvious. and i am not a hater

like passion of the christ?

Yeah, i think the MM ending is a stupid idea also.

about the doomday story tho, i think it's important to realize that his death is really the beginning of the story, not really the end.

i wouldn't mind him dying in an all out full blown fight with darkseid or brainiac where he died to save humanity or what have you.

If there was to be an epilogue for Superman, I'd pick DC One Million, or a glimpse at the Legion of Super-Heroes as a symbol of change he inspires in the world.

yeah but it would be an epic fail at the box office to. no one wants to go see a superman movie with no superman.

Millar is a fantastic idea man. Fact. WB should grab him and make him work WITHIN the current Superman film continuity. I do not believe for one second that Millar is only capable of creating his 8-hour reboot. He can use his creativity to come up with a great story that doesn't have to reboot everything.

I would be perfectly okay with that. Having Superman become The Godfather trilogy where everybody dies in the end and Superman either dies/relocates himself isn't right (in my opinion) for a movie.

Definitely. Superman should have an uplifting, hopeful feeling in each of his stories. If his idea is to explore Superman's immortality, I'd like to see him thousands of years into the future continuing to save and inspire people.

I think Millar should condense his story into two films with the second film being a lead in to the eventual Justice League film.

So instead of having a 3rd Superman film....make the Justice League film instead.

Something like that would be more of a fitting ending.

There ya go....

Why would they even have to reboot? You can release another movie after a third one.

A great idea because as said it explores his immortality. A lot of people forget that and it's a good way to remind the public as well as reinventing the character for a new generation.

Something like that is what's needed however before jumping all those years into the future the original story needs closure. Leave the millions of years later and the earth explodes stuff for an epilogue though. That way you could always leave it open for many other stories to be told before "the real death of Superman".

I think the ending is great because it will be bring it all together the sun turns red and explodes like the one from Krypton. He wants to go Michael Corleone with it and eventually Corleone died.
