Superman Returns Mark Millar's thoughts on the movie . . .

C. Lee, your point is valid. Yes, lots of people do jobs they don't particularly like-me included. But if I were in Alex's position, money be damned. I wouldn't want my name associated with a project that I had such a low regard for.
But that's just me.

well i know that Ross does in fact turn down work because he doesnt like the subject matter. back in the late 90's, he was offered to work on storyboarding x-men the movie. since he absolutely hated the x-men and thought that they were what's wrong with comics, he turned it down. this was a big, high-profile job (not some cover for wizard), and he turned it down because of personal preferences.

in the end, he fell in love with singer's x-men and after that wanted to do x-men stuff. haha then he was turned down. he seems like an ok guy and stated that he did see the irony in it.

I know; he's also turned down repeated offers to do something for Vampirella. But still, he hates the Spider-man movies, so why'd he accept this project?

true he needs to work, but it's not as if Alex Ross NEEDED to do the intro for SM2. as big of an artist Alex Ross is, i doubt he'd have trouble finding work so he can put food on the table. and i SERIOUSLY doubt that, at the time, the intro for SM2 was the only job he could find.

He's an artist.....us artists NEED the expsosure. You can never have enough of it really. I mean, DC put Jim Lee images up for it's DC logo before Batman Begins....and that's great for him. Exposure would be the reason for Ross to do the intro. It's business.

The point was.....everyone now and then will work a job doing something they don't like....it's life. He can disagree with a movie....but still do work for it....many many people do this all the time.

Yup.

Since when can't someone be both a Professional AND a fan?

C. Lee, your point is valid. Yes, lots of people do jobs they don't particularly like-me included. But if I were in Alex's position, money be damned. I wouldn't want my name associated with a project that I had such a low regard for.

Well......did he actually not like the first film? Because....if he did like the first film, how could he have known he wouldn't like the second?

Bottomline though. It's not really for the money he'd get for the job...in fact, I think the money was given to charity on the sold paintings. It's about exposure. Spidey 2 is a mass market film.....tons of people will watch it.....so.....tons of people will ask, "Who's that artist?" if they didn't already know.

by the same logic Batman Begins was Batman fighting just another quake who wants to gas Gotham...it was Batman with Mrs. Cruise

I dunno.......I think people just MIGHT expect more......the CGI driven market might lead to that. Batman battles grounded villians, so....it might be accepted for that reason. But, that's the huge question I guess. Does Supes have to be all flashy and pretty to the eyes to make money?

That's what it was.

lol......but, isn't that always the deal? There's always some"quake" wanting to bring down Gotham.....lol.

When you say "quake", do you mean "quack"? Because I fail to see how in each Batman movie, an earthquake tries to bring down Gotham.

To CBB, the answer is yes, he flat out told me he did not like the first film.

That's because they make room for movies that are in production or have sequels in production.
"Hulk 2" isn't in production, though.

Well, it's gotta be exposure...I would believe. I mean.....having your own artwork on display for the opening credits to a huge film like that.....c'mon....ya can't buy that type of publicity.

I meant to say Quack

quake....quack......they're all the same. Bunch of freaks, that's what they are.

I dunno.....I think he's still hopeful, just a little worried.

Hey, I felt the same way about X3.....and it looks like it's great. So, there ya go.

Well, it's actually got a named writer now, and it's on the Production books. Avi just needs to stop talking about the project and give the writer and produsers deadlines.

Personally, I hope it stalls out, Zakk Penn mentioning Axel Alonso and Bruce Jones run as an inspiration scares the hell out of me.

Yeah.....but it could be a while. Iron Man might see the light of day before Hulk does again.

Here you guys go again (Just like you did with the NY Post) attacking Mark Millar just because he doesn't like what he is sees or is about to see in Superman Returns. And again if he said it was great most of you would be singing a different tune and praising Mark Millar.

See, when the FF4 was coming out and the critics were bashing it I didn't get all bent out of shape and I am a huge FF4 fan. I knew the movie was going to suck so I agreed with them, and when I saw it I agreed with them even more.
You just have to grow up and learn to take negative criticism, after all we are talking about a movie based on the world's most ridiculed Super hero, look at that outfit for crying out loud.

dude,its a valid question.

not everyone is an expert.. remember that.

Mark needs to stick to Marvel and stay away from DC.
The man loves the F word, need proof, read his run on the Authority. every other word is the F word.

There is nothing wrong with what he said. He is saying the very thing everyone on this boards are debating on, and the very things we are worried about. He is a well-established comic, and his opinion should be respected (but emphasis on the word OPINION). He himself said he wants to be proven wrong, just like the rest of the other fanboys who have doubts.
