Superman Returns Mark Millar's thoughts on the movie . . .

I love you. And the fact we're both Spidey's fans help make you a plus in my book. :D :spidey:
Thanks. And I think that we can agree, no matter how SR turns out, Alex Ross is still going to be an idiot.:)

dude,its a valid question.

not everyone is an expert.. remember that.

You don't really need to be an expert though. I've only read one Mark Millar comic, but I've heard of him. I mean, he's a comic book star.......and we're talking about a comic book superhero. So....ergo....

Mark needs to stick to Marvel and stay away from DC.
The man loves the F word, need proof, read his run on the Authority. every other word is the F word.

I dunno....I hear he did some great work for DC, plus he's a huge Superman fan.

But I hear you.....I read WANTED, and man.....talk about cursing-galore. lol. Adults only, I guess.

Thanks. And I think that we can agree, no matter how SR turns out, Alex Ross is still going to be an idiot.:)

I dunno....the dude is pretty kick ass.

Hah....

Anyway the Thor fan shouldn't talk about Millar bashing Supes in favor of Thor.

Millar is a big Superman fan, and doesn't care for Thor at all.

I mean Millar wrote the X-men but I know for a fact he cares a lot more about Superman, he didn't know the X-men's names or origins when he started.

Big fans get worried, but he really hasn't seen more than either of us.

The last trailer really restored my faith in this movie.

There seems to be plenty of action.

BTW Thor fan... Superman IV probably made more than any Thor movie will ever make.

Talk about a 180...

Very in character for Millar, the man is far from the hater portrayed by overly defensive fans or trolls looking to bash the movie.

The man loves Superman... its almost unbelievable... the guy spent a couple of thousand dollars for the cape on Superman III.

He wants the movie to do well... but he is a very good action writer... and he fears it didn't have cool action bits people would love.

The dude would love for nothing more than if Superman became the number 1 movie of all time & was much beloved.

Which is exactly what he said in his opinion, way back on the first page of the thread. But some people don't want to see someone say "I have worries, but I WANT it to be good", when they can just jump on him and call him a "Hater" out-right. It's easier to mis-interpret and bash then it is to read and comprehend it seems...

You mean all those "I hope I'm wrong" remarks went unnoticed & THAT'S why this thread has gotten so ugly? I'm wondering how many Millar bashers read his remarks all the way through in the first place.

Well, that is a trickey question my friend. I'm sure they all READ his remarks. Here's the tough question though: How many COMPREHENDED what he was saying? I'll leave it up to a wiser person than me to hazard a guess.....

Calling him a "hater" didn't just come from the people who tried to bash him either. There were people who appreciated wht he said because to them it confirmed that the movie WOULD be bad and it helped "their" cause to show that Superman will fail. Misinterpretation occured on both sides of the fence.

I'll buy that. You're right. People interpret things the way they want, regardless of what's presented to them.
I had a thread on the X-boards entitled "I'm skeptical for the following reasons..."
Instead of jumping down my throat, the fans gave valid, articualte reasons why I shouldn't worry. The same should've been done here, instead of attacking one another.
My skepticism on SR, however, remains intact. But if it does turn out to be good I will gladly come back here & apologize.

As I said in my post both sides overreacted.

People who for various reasons want the movie to fail, used Millar as a mouthpiece to validate themselves.

People who want the movie to be great, were s bit too defensive & felt Millar was bashing the movie. And when they learned he worked for Marvel it made it like he was just propping X3.

But neither was true... any dude who spent thousands of dollars for a cape for Superman 3 is a big time fan.

But Since When Have Facts Or Logic Gotten In The Way Of People Ranting On These Boards?

Mark Millar has every right to share his opinion. It's his opinion. But let take the time to express my opinion on the matter. I just don't see this movie being a bad movie at all. The critics can and comic authors can say what they want to say but when SR opens to record breaking numbers they will all hop on the the Supes bandwagon and enjoy the ride. They said a lot of things about Spider-Man too before it came out. It opened huge and everybody was then saying good things about Spidey. Tell me one comic movie that is 100% true and faithful to the comics. No matter what us comci fanboys think, there will never be a comic book movie that will be 100% true to the comics. There'll always be something to nitpick about. But does that mean the movie will be bad? Does that mean the story will be bad? Does that mean the acting will be bad? Does that mean the movie won't be dramatic and emotional? As much as I would love to see Superman face a supervillian and perform unimaginable impressive feats, I think Singer is doing what's best for the franchise by taking a realistic approach to the Superman world and trying to win over the general audience. That's what Raimi did with Spider-Man. And it worked. Singer is using the same approach and it will work. Superman will no doubt open to huge numbers. They make tons of money form DVD Sales and rentals and then the second movie will be set up nicely for a supevillian and all those amazing feats. If people want to complain about a superhero movie go and complain about Batman & Robin or Catwomen. Don't under estimate Singer and SR.

This thread needs to be closed. Its no longer relevant. Millar changed his mind.

Really? What does he think of it now? Just curious. I'm telling you, he won't be the only one changing his mind.

The only part I disagree with is people changing their tune when they see the numbers. I've never seen that happen. I know I've never been swayed by box office numbers & anyone who is is a mindless sheep. And you're wrong about Spider-Man. Pretty much the same people who were bashing Spider-Man in May 2001 were still bashing it in June 2002. We've still got people calling it Man-Spider on the boards now. Fantastic 4 made money & people are still trashing it. Some people are always gonna have something negative to say, no matter what.
And most of the negative remarks surrounding "Superman Returns"-unlike the Spidey-bashing-is not about faithfulness; it's about the approach. Following Donner's films in some ways & deviating in others. And if you have doubts about the approach you have a right to voice them.

Yeah, money made usually doesn't equal quality. How much it makes can lead to a sequel....but doesn't mean much if the film is crap.

Quite true. I hated "Tomb Raider" but it still pulled down enough for them to make a second one.

Thanks. And I think that we can agree, no matter how SR turns out, Alex Ross is still going to be an idiot.

what did he say?
I'm more concerned about his art than what he thinks.
