Mark Millar's Many Thoughts On Superman

So is this him talking again about the same thing or something new? I've lost track.

I think he was/is high on some messed up stuff. Kinda like Docker 2.0.

Wait...either I'm high or Ben Affleck is drunk, but didn't he already play Superman...

The only hiccup I see is that WB wants to do Justice League, and if Superman is dead by the third movie, thats going to make it difficult.

"Old man" and "dead" are not synonymous. We know in DC One Million and Millar's own Superman: Red Son that some versions have him living tens of thousands and even millions of years into the future. So we shouldn't come to the conclusion that he would be dead at the end of a third film.

I like Millar's overall "concept" of making a grand, epic Superman movie.....especially one that really explores his Kryptonian/alien heritage.

It's some of the other "stuff" Millar has said elsewhere that concerns me.......

Why are we spending so much time on Millar?

Is it more certain that he's the man?

I could live with Millar's vision of a trilogy ending with the death of Superman. All you have to do is have JLA take place between 2 and 3 and maybe tie it into Superman 3 by introing Doomsday in JLA. Now before anyone gets all how do you do more movies if he dies in part three. Remember there is always a second trilogy that can be filmed by a different creative team to cover "The Rein of the Supermen" and cover his return.

That's what I think he means. I could imagine seeing a scene with the subtitle "Epilogue" or "10 million years from now". It would be a great way of seeing the impact his presence has had on Earth, to see his examples inspire people towards progress and fulfulling their potential. Then of course, you see Superman, the ever watchful protector of Earth, still pursuing his neverending battle, or awaiting the day when the world cries of his help.

I for one would like to see Millar's vision at LEAST come to the scripting stage. I'm very curious how it would play out. Judging from his past Superman work, I'm sure it could be quite spectacular.

Regarding this whole "Old man" or "dead" thing: I think it refers to old man. Think the end of Red Son. Plus, if we get an epilogue that's however many years into the future (as The Sage suggested), I have a feeling I know what Millar is hinting at...a Legion of Superheroes cameo!

That is why I mentioned Millar's trilogy ending with Superman's death and the next one being about his return. Done right you could have an epic series of movies. Spaning Superman's life till the end of time itself.

Yeah, he did, in "Hollywoodland" (BTW, I only saw what, the first 30 minutes of the movie? I never actually got to the part where he starts playing Superman, but I'm sure he was good in the role.)

I personally really got into that movie and thought he did a solid job.

That was the best Affleck performance in Hollywoodland.

If you look at some of the interviews found on the Hollywoodland DVD, Affleck states that he prepared himself for the role of George Reeves, than most if not all of the previous roles he has had as an actor. And it definately showed in his performance. Great movie.

That movie was sooooooo boring. It wasn't as bad as the other old Hollywood death re-investigation, Black Dhalia, but still something I have no intentions of watching a second time.

While I'm not an Affleck detractor, I think his performace as George Reeves was passable. I'm still wondering how Kyle McLaughlin would have been in the role.


There are certain things in Reeves' deliveries that Affleck either didn't get or couldn't capture.

Not that I dislike Affleck....

I really want him back as Daredevil.

The movie was really good story, while not exactly being true to real life. Both Noel Neil and Jack Larson didn't like it because they said the George Reeves in that film was not the George Reeves they knew.

Ok. I just finished reading RED SON for the first time. It was a great ELSEWORLD story and i'm not sure if i like the ending or not. To make Krypton the Earth in the future.

Do you think that when Millar says that he is going to show a million years in the future of Earth, he could possibly be thinking about having the same ending in the Superman movies?

How would you feel about this?
