Mark Millar's Many Thoughts On Superman

Here's something for you to think about...


Ok. I just finished reading RED SON for the first time. It was a great ELSEWORLD story and i'm not sure if i like the ending or not. To make Krypton the Earth in the future.

Do you think that when Millar says that he is going to show a million years in the future of Earth, he could possibly be thinking about having the same ending in the Superman movies?

How would you feel about this?

I don't think he'd do that. It worked in the Elseworlds, but for the actual mainstream Superman? That's a bit too much. That's why I think he's talking about seeing a highly advanced Earth with the Legion of Super-Heroes protecting it.

Yeah, if that's what he's talking about, than i'm all for it! But if it's like RED SON, and somehow I have a feeling he would do that, then well...i'm not sure if i'm going to like it.

Okay I've changed my mind. I think Millar's director friend is Matthew Vaughn. I know this isn't a new theory but Vaughn has a lot of respect with lots of people so it could be him. Plus he's worked with Henry Cavill so if they liked Cavill I could see him being considered for the reboot.

He dropped out of X-Men, and dropped out or was kicked of Thor. Not sure if he is really even American...there is some British going on there but I think he is in line to direct Kick Ass.

I thought he turned down X-Men 3 because of the script or was that someone else? And maybe by American director he meant someone that does American movies. I know I might be reaching. I know that Millar thinks Vaughn is a huge deal by the way he knows so many people and was able to come up with the money to make Kick Ass. I don't think it's uncommon for directors to turn down movies. I am willing to bet the really big directors turn down at least a script a week. And I'm not sure if he actually said WB said he was a big deal. Only that the director is a big deal and that WB approached this said director.

It wasn't a case where he just turned down the script, he was already set to direct, already had reached an agreement. Then he backed out due to "family reasons". Nothing against Vaughn, I like what he has done for the most part, but if Mark Millar is calling Vaughn a "Big American Director", I find that somewhat misleading personally.

I guess when Millar was saying big deal, if he even has a director or not just self promoting, we all were hoping for somebody that we thought was a big deal. Not the Hollywood inner circle.

I would say the Hollywood inner circle probably think of themselves as big deals. I mean if you're not part of it, your movies are usually straight to video. Lots of good actors are out of this circle and some bad actors are in it. I would say though that it is a fair argument that if a director can raise up 70 million dollars for a film by making a few phone calls he can be a big deal in a few people's eyes. My instincts say that Vaughn is really connected.

this is on youtube. in the australian interview. of course if money talks and they offer him a movie that he would be interested he would do it.
but now? hmmm i dont know.

the sun flares would be perfect for a superman movie. but hes editing style would not fit for a superman origin.
