we all know he's a great writer, but I've always wondered why his best works are always based on short stints? he wrote flash for almost 8 yrs i believe, but now that he's older he does mini's which are great works;KC,S:BR, and he always does two year runs(Legion,FF,CA,etc) is he slowing down or what?

his F4 run is my favorite thing by him, and that went on for a few years

That's really got nothing to do with Waid. That's just the way the industry is. Or at least the Big two. Most writers might stay on a book, what? Tweleve? Fifteen issues? Theres the rare few that last years these days.

Looks like it. 30 plus issues of Legion of Superheroes and FF counts as a decent run.

also does it seem to you, that he always put forth his best effort on minis? i loved superman birthright and kingdom come, so im always wondering when the **** is he going to do a superman or batman run.

Superman Birthright wasn't that great. And I assume you've never read the Kingdom.

He's a good writer. One of the best, but he's not perfect. And they wont give him Supes because he'd want to ditch Lois. He hates Married Superheroes.

ahh no wonder he hates spiderman. I thought Birthright was pretty darn good, better compared to john's and donner's run on action comics.

and his hate on married heroes is BS, he wrote fantastic four for god sakes.

In his mind, he feels that certain characters should be in committed relationships. Like Reed and Sue. Or Scott and Jean. People like Supes, Bat's, and Spidey? Not so much. Like it gets away from the core concept of the character in some way. Basically anybody that wasn't hitched when he started reading comics shouldn't be together. Which is probably why he and Ross work so well together. lol.

i agree with him on batman, thats one character that should never be married. scott and emma belong together in my opinion.

Going by his opinions on other things, I'm willing to bet he'd disagree with you on Scott and Emma.

he can suck it. i like the dynamic between them, the uptight misunderstood *****, with the easy going guy.

Easy going? We're talking about Cyclops here, right?

yeah, he seems easy going to me, yeah he gets uptight and **** but a majority of the time wolverine gives him reason to be.

With his recent mental breakdown in Astonishing, he seems to be a lot more laid back. Hope they keep it that way. But for the most part, I'd say since the 90's, he's been about as uptight as one can get. Even when he got sent to his bug room, he still acted like he had a stick up his arse.

I'd say, Emma is the Sexy, Elietist b***h, and Scott is the Uptight, slightly insane, emotional cripple.

emma is more of a emotional cripple since she has hard time showing her real felings, even in the last issue cyc wqs surprised she said "i love you". insane?

I would expect that an author is generally going to do a better job on a given miniseries than he is on any ongoing series he might work on.

the Kingdom

Hey now.

There's no call for that kind of language.

She's like the Mary Jane to Jean's Gwen Stacy.

I think Cyclops works better when he's uptight. He's just not supposed to be likable.

Gwen Stacy came first, and had more impact, and thusly, Mary Jane has never been fully accepted as Spider-Man's #1.

Same thing with Emma.

I actually thought it was one of my more apt analogies.

Also note that Emma played much more the sultry temptress to Jean's more-or-less Good Girl, which I feel deepens the comparison.

Also also one is a redhead and one is a blonde, which at least seems like it should be significant.

Yet it isn't at all.

It's a good analogy. Emma will never replace Jean, but she will make things more wild.

But back to Waid. I liked the Kingdom personally because it delved into the concept of hypertime and the Planet Krypton one shot is a doozy.

I haven't seen many people mention Heavens Ladder by him and Bryan Hitch of Ultimates fame. It's one of those oversized books that cost ten bucks. It's a total trip and can stand among the best of the best JLA stories. Definitly something he must have dreamed up while smoking hash with Grant Morrison.

Definitly can't go wrong with Mr.Waid. With Rucka holding up the weak end, the 52 writers are arguably the best of the best currently. Millar and Bendis probably being their only competition.
