A 200 million dollar crime drama was always bound to lose money and Scorsese's track record is very hit or miss box office-wise, with emphasis on miss. But at least with a wide release in cinemas before it hits streaming it has a chance of making more money than being released exclusively for Apple TV+.

True, but this is still an insane amount of money to invest in. Apple obviously doesn't expect to make money out of this. They want potential award recognition a prestigious director to work with, which could lead to future collaborations. Also, is it technically a DiCaprio-led film? I though Jesse Plemons eventually took the lead.

Scorsese has carte-blanche on a $200M crime-drama Western based on a thrilling and sprawling true story with an incredible ensemble. He's going to immerse us like never before. That's all I see here, so I'm very, very happy

Apple has the money to lose and knew what they were getting into years ago when every traditional studio passed on this
