It's the comic book event that has everyone from Entertainment Weekly to The Wall Street Journal buzzing and now the years top-selling comic, "Secret Invasion", makes its television debut on ESPN2 tonight! During tonight's telecast of the Bricktown Showdown, the minor league baseball championship, beginning at 8pm EST, an ad for the Skrulls' "Embrace Change" cause will run multiple times. As part of this partnership with MiLB, fans attending the game will also receive Thunder Stix promoting the upcoming Iron Man DVD & Blu-Ray discs (on-sale 9/30); Skrull Masks promoting Secret Invasion; and copies of Marvel Adventures: Iron Man #11and Marvel: Your Universe Saga.

This promotion follows Marvel's successful partnership with Triple-A Baseball earlier this year, which resulted in a special "Free Comic Book Day" for fans at select baseball games. Fans in attendance received a copy of the limited edition Triple- A Baseball Heroes, featuring Marvel's most popular heroes and Tiple-A Baseball's most popular mascots!

So, tonight, no True Believer can afford to miss Minor League Baseball's Bricktown Showdown, as Marvel's brand new television commercial makes its television debut on ESPN2!

Wow. Say what you want about the event itself, but this is a major leap for comics, in my opinion. Actual paid advertising on TV. Awesome news.

Well its great becuase this way Marvel can get new readers and followers.......but to be real, this will probably be my last big event I buy.....at least until Marvel lightens up. 616 is way to dark for me at this point and its really turning me off from comics.

Do the ads have a scroll at the bottom that says, "SPORTSCENTER IS NEXT!" like nearly everything on ESPN does? ;)

That's pretty cool. I think I've watched maybe 10 minutes of ESPN2 in my entire life, but spreading the word of comics to absolutely anyone who might be interested can't hurt. Jesus taught me that.

So, I wonder if this is a not so subtle support for Obama.

Hmm, or McCain, if they are suggesting Obama is a Skrull.

People who watch ESPN don't read comics..:o:oldrazz:

This is a good step. Comics getting TV time, I'd never thought I would see the day. But I like it.

So, did anyone actually see the commercials air on ESPN2? I don't have cable, but I did see the promo thing on EmbraceChange.org and it was pretty good. It was a lot better than those trailers for comic books that have popped up in the last year or so.

I'm half expecting Obama to say "I'm Barack Obama, and I approve this message." :p
